Scorpion Fly (Female).

Two scorpion fish photographed in the Red Sea. Inon Strobe, near focus wide angled lense.

This is a giant whip scorpion. It might be called a scorpion, but It is really an arachnid. It does not have a poisonous tail like a scorpion nor a venomous bite like a spider. It does however squirt acid from the base of it's tail. This large arachnid walks on only six legs. The two front legs are used as feelers.

A male Scorpion Fly (Panorpa communis) fresh from his adventures escaping my cats then flew into a spiders web where it quickly managed to free itself as the slow off the mark spider reacted a little too slowly to make a meal of him. He then rested for a moment or two and preened himself before taking to the wing and vanishing from sight..... Suffolk, England.

Scorpions are any of 1,400 elongated arachnid species characterized by a segmented curved tail tipped with a venomous stinger at the rear of the body and a pair of grasping pincers at the front. Although scorpions are most common and diverse in deserts, they also live in many other habitats. Primarily nocturnal, scorpions often play the role of evildoers in fables and legends. Greek respect for scorpions prompted the naming of the constellation Scorpius, a sign of the zodiac.

Not car related at all but I was almost finished piecing together my Scorpion and wanted to get a photo of what I have so far.

This scorpion MOC is my final CCC XVII entry, for the "Siege Warfare" category. It was a fun, last minute build which was a great opportunity to try 1) a more muted color scheme than I usually employ, and 2) an irregular border for the entire MOC.

A scorpion is basically a portable ballista. The model is based off the scorpion siege weapon design featured in Age of Empires II.

What better weapon can the scorpion knights use? :)

I build this scorpion for the scene "The Temple Guardian".

I know that scorpions have two more legs but I was not looking for accuracy but simply creating a legendary being. It lost the other leg in his fight against the adventurers of the scene

Construí este escorpión para la escena "El guardián del templo".

Sé que los escorpiones tienen dos patas más, pero no buscaba realismo sino simplemente crear un ser legendario. La otra pata la perdió durante su lucha con los aventureros de la escena.

One thing about this image. I've noticed that people when looking at it for a first time have a great deal of confusion on their faces (After a little while the state of confusion is generally followed by exhaling and something like wow!) Looks like it is hard to grasp this image from the first glance. So take your time:) It's here to stay.

eating an insect

A very common insect, that often gets missed. Scorpion Flies are a bit of a scavenger, eating dead insects. Sometimes they pick carion off spider webs. They will eat live insects too. Although they do have wings, they seldom fly, preferring to crawl on vegetation. The male has 2 longer appendages at the end of the abdomen, giving it a scorpion like appearance. But these are to help grab on to and mate with the female and is not a stinger. Harmless but the stripes and orange colouration do make it an interesting insect.

A magnifigure of one of my favorite Mortal Kombat characters, Scorpion. This was another simple weekend project, and it used the same basic design and fluidity of my previous Raiden figure. Since minifig ninja masks are only available in a limited amount of colors (excluding yellow), I decided to use a skull for the head and have Scorpion unmasked -- which actually adds more to the design.

The Scorpion Weed is just starting to unfurl here in the desert. Its delicate purple blossoms and graceful yellow anthers belie its prickly nature and capacity to inflict a nasty rash when touched by sensitive individuals.

Local human residents of the area often adopt a similar strategy to counteract the invasive species of wheeled and bi-pedal migrations brought on by the warm weather and its mass exodus and migration from the environmental and economic niche of its urban garden.

The best treatment for the ensuing rash of red-faced snarky rude is the application of a smile along with prevention from future contact and isolation from the offending creepers.

Projekt "Blacktron II Special Forces" Part 2 "MBT Scorpion II"

Yes, it is a slightly modified Halo Scorpion M808 B1. I wanted to recreate this tank since long. All previous models of this tank that I have seen, are not accurate enough for me. So I've been thinking long, and have come to the conclusion that in relation to a Minifig to double the size. Then I worked on self supporting chain runs very long. Because I did not like the bricks to hold the axes in addition to the running rollers and drive wheels of the chain. That takes some accuracy of detail in my eyes. So I have now managed by various techniques an accurate replica for me.It would be no reproduction ala Stephan Niehoff, if I had not made a few small changes. The turret I designed a little flatter, which looks more like a battle tank. And the cannon I've designed something spacey. Ohhh, of course, the MBT received a Blacktron II painting.

Details: The turret can be rotated 360 degrees, the gun barrel can be raised by 45 degrees, the chain runs can be rotated 360 degrees, and the chains work.

The Blacktron engineers created this tank based on the model of a series of games. They play this game with great enthusiasm. But they had to expand the dimensions to carry enough ammunition and hightech with. Because this destruction machine has a 160 mm cannon, which is why the turret was flat, to compensate for the enormous blowback. The 160 mm projectiles are fired by inductive voltage. And can hit a target up to 40 KM. This makes the bullets a little smaller because no propellant is required. The energy for the weapon and the drive provides a fusion reactor. So that no fuel is needed and a nearly unlimited range guaranteed. The secondary weapon is a high speed plasma machine gun, no ammunition unlimited number of shots.A neuroimplant of the second generation allows that one crew member is sufficient to perform all the functions of the tank.

The combat weight is the only weak point, with 125 tons of these MBT it is not suitable for all terrain. Each MBT is supported by Blacktron II infantry units. (Often elite infantry of the CS series). And drones of the SkyEye series. OohRah

Chaerilus solegladi - Mount Kinabalu National Park, Malaysia

One thing I love about the tropics is that there is so much left to be discovered. I believe this little scorpion to be Chaerilus solegladi, a species only described in 2012. A small species which would be easy to miss as it lives a secretive life in the leaf litter and underneath rocks and logs in the Bornean jungle. We can only begin to guess how many other similar species await discovery. This scorpion is found nowhere else besides Borneo, other members of its genus can be found throughout tropical regions of Southern Asia

An articulated BigFig I made of my favorite Mortal Kombat fighter, Scorpion -- unmasked with his skull face form.

This was a quick build that I made over the course of a night. The figure is rather articulated and stable, although his arms are a big flimsy due to the Technic pin joints.

I plan on using this base design for making additional ninjas, in the same vein as the color palette swapping of Sub-Zero, Reptile, and Smoke.

One of the good things about visiting the USA is seeing aircraft types that are really absent in Europe.

A prime example of this is the Northrop F-89 Scorpion, of which around 22 are preserved.

53-2453 is an F-89J which back in 2002 was used by the Helena College of a Technology. More recently, the aircraft has moved on to the Heritage Flight Museum at Burlington, WA.

The Scorpion Fly is a strange-looking insect that is found in gardens and hedgerows, and along woodland edges, particularly among Stinging Nettles and Bramble. It has a long, beak-like projection from its head that is uses to feed. It scavenges on dead insects and frequently steals the contents of spiders' webs. It lives up to its name by sporting a scorpion-like tail, which the male uses in courtship displays. Adults usually mate at night, but mating can be a dangerous game for the male, who might easily be killed by the female. So he presents her with a nuptial gift of a dead insect or a mass of saliva to placate her - the equivalent of a box of chocolates! The resulting eggs are laid in the soil and the emerging larvae live and pupate at the soil surface.
