The Autauga Northern Railroad, which runs between Prattville and Maplesville, Alabama, now hosts a pair of ex-SCL GP40s. I believe they've been upgraded to -2 specs internally, but that's about it. After spending time out in California, they've now been transferred here to interchange with NS and (for the most part) work International Paper.
In this photo, 3 units are being put together for a run to the mill, and then a trip to the NS interchange.

Carolina Piedmont 2079 helps bring a short train off of the BASF spur in Simsonville, South Carolina on November 8, 2022. CPDR 2079 is an EMD GP3802 built as Chicago & Northwestern (CNW) 4613 in 1979, then sold to National Railway Equipment where it became NREX 3881, to Chicago, Fort Wayne and Eastern (CFE) 3881, to CPDR 3881, to CPDR 2079 when it received the GWI orange and yellow paint.
What is now the Carolina Piedmont Railroad has a long history of mergers and acquisitions. It began as the Greenville and Laurens Railroad. The Greenville and Laurens was chartered in 1878 and arrived in Greenville in 1882. The railroad was later merged with three others in the region to form the Port Royal and Western Carolina Railway in October 1886. Ten years later, the railroad merged with the Port Royal and Augusta Railway to create the Charleston and Western Carolina Railway, which was in turn acquired by the Atlantic Coast Line in 1897.
The ACL merged with the Seaboard Airline Line in 1967 to become Seaboard Coastline and the SCL was merged into the Seaboard System in 1983. The final merger came in 1986, when the Seaboard System was merged into CSX Transportation.

This time, I was tired of the same old hawk setting in the tree shot,even though the light was good.
So I havce watched these guys for a while now, finally figured out the hints as to when they are going to fly and in what probable direction,, So I waited,, waited,, then,, there it was, so I got the in flight shot!

Under heavy rain, a sun ray manages get through the thick layer of clouds and shines over one of the FACh's KC-130R, that is rolling towards runway 17L.
For something different, a Seaboard Sunday surprise from the Admiral, coming from a family trip to Florida we took in April 1981. On the 19th of that month we found ourselves at the sprawling St. Petersburg station, a portion of which was this SCL office building, accented by the lucky superimposition of a palm tree's shadow.
CSX 1967 the Seaboard Coast Line Heritage unit leads CSX train I-129 off of the IHB and onto the GTW at Blue Island Jct. in Blue Island, IL.
M706 was very short on time today as he rolled into Pensacola. "Only 15 minutes we have there yardmaster"... They'd barely fit in... The consist was another one of those Candidates for consist of the year featuring three SD series EMD's that are long worn out... What a sight to see in late 2018... A SBD system SD50 leading a SCL SD40-2, and a Conrail SD40-2... I pulled a wide out and shot this while I could... Glad I did... They are still rotting away in the hood in Pensacola...
Corbin, KY was an Alco maintenance base for the L&N and continued to be Alco heaven after the formation of the Family Lines. SCL C420 is in position for a little TLC.

he was like an intense missile dropping out of the tree to grab a bug on the ground next to me (too close or could not grab focus on the attack darn it), I dont think he opened the wings till he pulled up at the ground level.
He gave me a clue he might be ready to fly by opening up the wings a touch and dropping his head, so I was ready to move with him for once.
Seaboard Coast Line U18B 369 at Orlando Florida in 08-1975. The only two roads in the U.S that opted for the U18B were the SCL and Maine Central when they traded in old EMD's for them. Maine Central's rode on EMD Blomberg B trucks from their trade ins while SCL had both Blomberg B and G.E. Floating Bolster trucks.They had 1800hp delivered from an 8cyl powerplant. Howard Kent Jr.
An absolute stunner of a slide, here is refurbished RBL SCL 995941 at the Fruit Grower's Express plant at Alexandria, Va. Beginning in 1981, FGE rebuilt several RBLs and later mechanical reefers with catchy marketing slogans and paint schemes. Many of the refurbished cars went on to be leased by other railroads, such as this SCL car. Note the N de M cabooses in the background; it is pontificated by Dwight Jones in vol 1 of B&0 Modern Cabooses that those may have been the last new cabooses built, at least by FGE. This slide went to a bidding war obviously, and since I was unavailable to bid, I tasked my girlfriend with "winning" it for me. The wallet hurt a little bit, but it's a beautiful un-coupled 3/4 shot of this fresh rebuild. It is November 26th 1982, and the photo was made by Tom Murray. JL Sessa collection.
My curiosity is killing me, the first documentation I found on this says it is/was in Hartsville, SC. It is certainly in Mullins, SC now. Any of the rail or caboose sleuths out there know the rest of the story? How did it from there to here? Is it owned by RJ Corman? Sure seems to be collecting vegetation and rust at a rapid rate.

Amtrak Silver Star, with EMD SDP40F locomotive 636 as the train's power that's on a platform track at Union Station in Tampa Florida, 6-79, Fred Clark, Jr. Passengers appear to be on the platform along with some observers and a couple of employees working on the Amtrak locomotive's nose.

Amtrak Silver Star northbound is stopped at the station platform with employee Jeanette Patterson a ticket clerk assisting passengers along with the car attendant at Clearwater, Florida, 3-27-1977, Fred Clark, Jr. Just as a sleeping car has a porter to provide services for the sleeping car passengers, the coaches had car attendants to assist passenger while on their trip in a long distance coach. Jeanette Paterson would load the passengers baggage and also them help along with the car attendant board the train. On this day there were other passengers boarding the train from what you can see along the platform. This station was originally built by the Seaboard Air Line Railway in the 1920's, then it became the property of the SCL, and they then closed the old ACL station and used this station as did Amtrak. The train after departing Clearwater will head to Tampa passing through Safety Harbor and then over the Oldsmar Trestle that goes across upper Tampa Bay. The station that is being used is the former and original 1920 station for the Seaboard Air Line Railway.

Good luck finding any information about SCL's hodge-podge open hopper fleet! Here's SCL 162187 near Willard Ohio on March 20th 1987. Note the car was stenciled for MOW-Ballast service...and is apparently back to hauling coal. I included the cars coupled to it as they are of interest too, including that C&O 85-ton to the left...definitely a forgotten intermediate step from the smaller hoppers into the 100-ton realm. Northbound CSX train waits a fresh crew to take it out of Atlanta with four axles still powering road trains in the mid 90's. I miss the rainbow but glad to have seen what I did. 25 years later trail doesnt equal fail with this type of vintage power.
