'Roid Week Spring 2017. (Day 1-2)
We are at RF&P's Bryan Park Terminal engine facility at Richmond, VA on June 7, 1979. In the ready field are Seaboard Coast Line C30-7 No. 7024 and B23-7 No. 5103, in fresh Family Lines paint. Although more colorful than SCL's black and yellow, I was never a fan of the scheme. That in itself is rather strange, since I loved the Seaboard System scheme, with the same colors, and to this day regret that it didn't last longer than it did.

During a late morning break from more typical Spring Break activities, a unique U36B leads a southbound into Jacksonville in March 1976. The U36B was a model unique to SCL rails. Autotrain also bought them but Autotrain ran mostly on SCL rails. There were a total of only 125 built. It's high horsepower and B-B trucks didn't fit the flat profile of many other railroads. Four eventually ended up on Conrail.
Seaboard Coast Line Alco C430 No. 1275 awaits its next assignment at RF&P's Bryan Park Terminal in Richmond, VA on a snowy Feb. 19, 1972. No. 1275 started its career as Alco demonstrator No. 430-1. It finished its career as L&N 5600 and was assigned to yard service with a slug converted from a retired RS-3.

This weeks Saturday Night Special is SCL SD45 #205 at Richmond, VA. Process date on the slide is October 1981 and there is no photographer listed.

This nest is in very clear view (from this direction anyway) just a few feet off the main path and parking lot. VERY popular too.

VERY overcast day with just hints of light from time to time,, this was a time.
These units have been around a good minute now but it stills nice to see especially in good winter lighting. These are FCEN GP15-1 655 & 713 and are stationed on the Winter Haven Line and are used almost daily on weekdays. There SCL paint is still looking pretty clean after being here for more than a year now.
Florida Central #57 and #55 rest in Lake Wales. FL awaiting their next assignment hauling cars to Frostproof.
A stop off to visit a friend in Jacksonville after spring break farther south allowed a few hours around the SCL yard on the north side of town. Jacksonville was a haven for the odd ball power on the railroad. After years of working as a VO-1000 as it was made by Baldwin, this hard pulling switcher and it's brothers wanted to identify as an EMD and a change was made. This one retains most of it's Baldwin appearance (some others received an EMD hood). I think the stacks are a give away and of course the smoother sound of a 567. March 1977
SCL 60206 is one of 300 such X6 class boxcars built by Pullman Standard for the road in mid 1969. These were well-equipped, modern boxcars for their time. They featured Freightmaster end of car cushioning, four Evans belt rails, large sliding doors, and a large, flashy paint scheme to attract customers. There is no location noted on this slide, but it looks like we're under PRR wires. This shot was taken in August 1969 by Frank Riedl. JL Sessa collection.

Former SCL SD45 #2024 has found a wonderful home at the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Oak Ridge, TN. Lettering is soon to come for this brute, as soon as a few mechanical issues are sorted out.
CSX GP40-2 6358 still shows some traces of it's heritage with the nose headlight from it's SCL days. 6358 was built in April 1972 as SCL 1648. Union City, Georgia May 10, 2020

SCL U36B 1776 is posing for a photo op/special event. There is no information on the slide mount, so I have no information on when/where/why etc. But is a very neat view of a special locomotive. JL Sessa collection.
