National Open Garden Scheme - Gardens of Great Britain – Furzelea, Danbury, Essex

This is another series of photographs taken in the many National Open Gardens we have visited over a period time. It never ceases to amaze me how many gardens there are in Essex and the variety of planting they show, long may it continue. The Yellow Book lives. Although not to sure under present conditions.

This is another set of postings.

Kookaburras are terrestrial tree kingfishers of the genus Dacelo native to Australia and New Guinea, which grow to between 28–42 cm in length. The name is a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, onomatopoeic of its call. The loud distinctive call of the laughing kookaburra is widely used as a stock sound effect in situations that involve an Australian bush setting or tropical jungle, especially in older movies. They are found in habitats ranging from humid forest to arid savanna, as well as in suburban areas with tall trees or near running water. Even though they belong to the larger group known as kingfishers, kookaburras are not closely associated with water. Kookaburras are almost exclusively carnivorous, eating mice, snakes, insects, small reptiles, and the young of other birds; unlike many other kingfishers, they rarely eat fish, although they have been known to take goldfish from garden ponds. In zoos they are usually fed food for birds of prey. 2393

On July 25, 2022, Union Pacific formally announced a makeover of its classic Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray paint scheme. The first unit to receive the new look was SD70ACe No. 8620. Its first assignment was to lead the MNPRO 25 (North Platte - Roper) manifest, pictured in Roy, Utah on the Salt Lake Subdivision the morning of July 28, 2022.

The Steller's Jays are always watching and scheming up new plans to steal your food or win a handout.

At Bijoux Falls, I used to stop for a break to relax and enjoy the waterfall. Now, I stop to enjoy the antics of the local Steller's jay flock.

Within a minute of parking, they glide one by one down from the canopy. First, they size you up and if they determine that the chances of winning a snack are good, there will soon be a dozen or more perched on nearby branches.

I usually bring along a large bag of sunflower seeds or peanuts. The bolder Jays will come and stand on the picnic table and ask for seeds. Within minutes, I've had birds perched on my hands or shoulders.
