Amtrak Lincoln Service train 319 is outbound while Amtrak 49, the Lake Shore Limited, is inbound with a trio of engines on the point. Various other power including the Operation Lifesaver unit are scattered around the scene. There's a lot of "Amtrak in transition" in this view. Chicago, IL 11/13/2022

Back in February I spent a morning at March station.

66742 waits in the loop while the Stanstead bound Turbostar I had arrived here on restarts its journey

A shot taken walking between Low Force and High Force. I have kept it in colour, and post processed the colours to remain true to the original.

Shot on Leica X and post processed in Lightroom.

I had plane tickets to Arizona for a week of sun and trains. It would have been a great trip, especially with some cool pics of various southwestern operations showing up on Flickr in the days leading up to my planned departure. However, one nagging concern kept me second-guessing that decision right up until literally the last minute. Despite a dismal weather forecast for the East Coast, and the anticipated hoards of (fellow) foaming fans, I decided a trip to see Western New York and Pennsylvania ALCOs was the better option. The threat - of course - was the arrival of several big GEs to replace the ALCos.

WYNP's ex-CSX AC6000 #6002 had recently come through St. Louis on its way from repainting on the Arkansas & Missouri and had already been recorded leading trains down to Pennsylvania. WNYP #6001 had departed St. Louis only days prior. There was no time to lose.

Fourteen hours after departing the St. Louis metroplex, I rolled into Olean, NY and headed directly to the shops to see how things were arranged for the following day. 6002 was positioned to lead something, but this here is what I came for...or at least some of what I came for.

Ex-CP MLW RS18u #417 and ex-NYC C430 #431 sit quietly at the WNYP shops, ready for the following morning's activities. 417 and ex-DH RS3M #406 would end up working the yard, while 431 apparently headed out to Falconer, NY in company with C430 #430 and C424 #435.

Museum van Bommel van Dam, the museum for modern and contemporary art in North Limburg, is presenting an anniversary exhibition this fall of the realistic painter Evert Thielen (1954), born in Venlo. For over 50 years, he has been making extremely detailed paintings and meter-high polyptychs with self-made paint and gives his own twist to classical genres.

On a visit to the tulip fields, we passed by the daffodil fields and saw about half a dozen rogue irises among the almost-finished daffodils

Another iPhone image on account of my damaged DSLR. The ancient fortified city of Mdina is a cracking place to amble around. Its' paved streets are very narrow so cars like this Smart car are a suitable choice for the locals. An unused red British phone box harps back to the times when Britain governed Malta whilst St Pauls Cathedral is seen in the background.

This is the same whooping crane that was in a photo posted back in December. I saw it again, several days later, and this time it was way too close to the county road. This is at 200mm.
