On Thursday, November 29, 2018, #SASCS Middle School hosted their first Teen Center Night of the school year. #SASAtoms spent the evening playing basketball, soccer, video games, watching a movie, or just hanging out. Donations from the event will be provided to families in need within our community. Creating a safe space for our #SASAtoms to relax with their peers is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

The #SASCS mentoring program recruits, trains, and matches high school students to mentor elementary students located at the Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School.

#SASAtom mentors spend at least one hour every two weeks with their student. This relationship helps youth build basic life skills, enhance their self-esteem and gives the youth ongoing encouragement to accomplish long-term goals for both the high school and elementary student.

This program is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

On Tuesday, October 30, The #SASCS Elementary October Student of the Month Ceremony awarded students for their trustworthiness. The students who received this award are honest and lead by example every day in their classrooms.

Our ceremony included dress down passes for students who received the most DOJO's and a fun PBIS game where a student from each kindergarten class dug through a spooky bucket of spaghetti to try and extract as many plastic eyeballs out as they could in 10 seconds. All three kindergarten classes were winners in this game, and earned a dress down pass for their whole class!

Terra Science and Education also joined us for our ceremony and handed out scholarships to our now 4th-grade students who performed at a level 3 or 4 on their New York State assessment. Great job, #SASAtoms!

Celebrating our students is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

On Friday, September 28, 2018, the Syracuse Academy of Science held its third annual Science Meets Jazz fundraising dinner. Jennifer Sanders and Iris St. Meran, news anchors and hosts of the podcast "The Ladies Room" emceed the event at the Sky Armory. Doors opened at 6:00 p.m. and the evening began with demonstrations from the #SASCS Robotics Club, a silent auction featuring a custom piece created by the #SASCS Art Club, and three musical numbers performed by the #SASCS High School band and choir.

Headlining the evening was the world-renowned saxophonist, Elan Trotman. The SAMMY award-winning jazz group, E.S.P. Jazz, opened the evening and accompanied Trotman during his set. The audience enjoyed Mr. Trotman's original work, Island Gal, and danced the night away with classic sounds from Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind and Fire.

The evening was put together to bring the world of art and science together to raise funds for STEM and Robotics programs at the Syracuse Academy of Science. Overall it was an absolute success, and would not have been possible without the followings sponsors: Pathfinder Bank, M&T Insurance Agency, Barclay Damon, Just The Right Stuff, Wegmans, Americu, Terra Science Foundation, 100 Black Men of Syracuse, Chartwells, WAER, The Sky Armory, ALoft Hotels, George Kilpatrick, Hummels & BME, Jim Stagnitta Electric, and Austin & Co. Thank you for supporting the Syracuse Academy of Science. We are building success one ATOM at a time.

On Saturday, June 2, 2018, scholars from #SASCS Middle School brought their amazing skills to the MOST Rocket Challenge. Students from the 5th, 6th and 7th grades prepared a rocket for this competition. #SASAtoms demonstrated their knowledge in rocket parts, designs, and other physics concepts. We highly enjoy this competition and look forward to competing each and every year! Go ATOMS! #SASCS #SASAtoms

On Wednesday, June 30, 2018 our #SASAtoms participated in a visit to Syracuse University. This trip is part of our early awareness activity available to all eight-grade #SASCS scholars. Students are exposed to different types of educational institutions, and can ask questions of college students and faculty. By taking advantage of this opportunity, students learn the benefit of successfully preparing for post-secondary education. Go Atoms! #SASCS #SASAtoms

On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, seventh-grade #SASAtoms traveled to the Corning Museum of Glass. While there, students viewed 3,500 years glass history; from the glass portrait of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh to contemporary sculptures crafted from the liquid sand. Students also learned the difference between glass casting and glass blowing. Lastly and most excitingly, students watched a live glass blowing demonstration. #SASCS strives to expose students to the amazing world of the arts and trips like this help with that goal. Go Atoms! #SASAtoms #SASCS

On Thursday, May 31, 2018 #SASCS students who maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher over the course of the marking period were honored at the end of year Dean's List Dinner. The #SASCS Dean, Jeanine Brand, handed out the honors and #SASAtoms and their families celebrated with dinner. We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to celebrating even more students next year. Go Atoms! #SASAtoms #SASCS

On Friday April 20th, 4th grade took a field trip to Painting With a Twist in Dewitt. We were able to create our own unique masterpieces that correlate with our curriculum in science and social studies. While our paintings dried, we played fun games with our peers. We had a great time getting out some creative energy before Spring Break.

On Tuesday, May 8th, 2018, fifth-grade students from #SASCS Middle School visited the Great Law of Peace Center in Liverpool. There they learned about New York State history, Native American history, culture, traditions and language. Students also toured model exhibits outside and got to see how Native Americans lived. The trip enriched the social studies curriculum through hands-on real life experiences. Go Atoms!

On May 10th and 11th of 2018, the #SASCS Middle and Elementary schools were proud to host their Annual Muffins for Mom events. These wonderful moments were organized to celebrate the many great female influences that are in our students' lives. In attendance at the middle school were visitors from nearly eighty families. Mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, and grandmothers all were able to sit and enjoy some delicious muffins and some great conversations. Our elementary students worked hard on decorating their classrooms and making gifts to show their mom how loved and appreciated they are this Mother's day. Moms joined their children in their classroom for a special presentation. It was a fun and loving afternoon for everyone involved. Thank you for all that you do for our students. Go Atoms! #SASCS #SASAtoms
