Dear uncle sold her into the purest kind of slavery.
Hood-eyed little middlemen profited from damaged goods
Along the way.
Good angels brought her back to a last Nepal summer.
Debased, hollow-faced, a smile might become her.
Now she's cosied up, cosied up and comforted
In the warm flush of september.
Gone before winter.
Wondering as to might-have-beens.
Somebody's daughter in sanctuary, waiting.
Seen through softer cage of kindness,
far and further still away,
From time-warp victorian zoos
Where staring ice cream gameboys play.
Big paws, worn claws and swishing tails.
More damaged goods in the market sales.
Too proud for anger, too late for hate: resigned in dignity.
Gone before winter.
Purring might-have-beens.
Somebody's kitten in sanctuary, waiting.
Somebody near you in sanctuary, waiting.

The 2 photos have been taken 10 years ago at a cats' sanctuary in Cyprus, where a nice lady was taking care of a large number of cats with donations from the public. Cats are everywhere on Cyprus streets, both in cities and villages.
_DSC3710-ARW - This statue called Pine Sanctuary is located at the entrance to Riverwood in Mississauga (a small conservation area along the banks of the Credit River). It is certainly eye catching with bold light green and cyan colouring although I like the bw image better. I think the bold colours obscure the complexity of the structure to a certain degree.
Along a small field road,
a chapel stands as a sacred refuge,
where the echoes of prayers mingle with the soft rustle of the surrounding nature !!

Sanctuary for this Canadian goose was on top of the Calgary reservoir dam and under the arch. Surrounded by concrete, she slept soundly in the setting sun. Explore #62

Sanctuary
(Christman Preserve, New York)
I prowled up the gorge, crossing and recrossing the stream where water spread out over the bedrock, daring it to top my Vibram soles. The Bozenkill is a captive of the shale, whose ledges alternately channel and pool the flow along the bed. The walk upstream enclosed me between ever-steepening hillsides, and after awhile I entered a chapel of sorts, disturbing it with human sounds. I left my load on the bank, and stood awhile in a shallow nave with no trace of pilgrims, my eyes walking up the steps into a sanctuary towards which all things seemed to bow. Stone and wood often define sacred places, but I suppose we differ on structure. I took some salvation nevertheless, watching troubles glide by like specks of light froth. And then I bailed to higher ground, struggling against the incline, headed for the asylum of the trail above me.
