Monte Pellegrino has always been considered a sacred mountain by the people of Palermo.
On this mountain lived the last years of his life a young noblewoman, a certain Rosalia, who had decided to live as a hermit.
He died on 4 September 1160 or 1165.
On July 15, 1624, while the plague was scourging Palermo, Rosalia's bones were found in a cave in the mountain. The relics were carried in procession and the plague was defeated. Rosalia became the patron saint of the city, the “Santuzza”, and the Sanctuary was built around the cave.

Su questa montagna visse gli ultimi anni della sua vita una giovane nobildonna, tale Rosalia, la quale aveva deciso di vivere da eremita.
Morì il 4 settembre del 1160 o 1165.
Il 15 Luglio 1624, mentre la peste flagellava Palermo, le ossa di Rosalia furono ritrovate in una grotta della montagna. Le reliquie furono portate in processione e la peste venne sconfitta. Rosalia divenne la santa patrona della città, la “Santuzza”, e attorno alla grotta venne eretto il Santuario.

While walking along a scenic seaside trail it came to an end with signs signifying that this area ahead of me was a migratory bird sanctuary/breeding area and human presence was prohibited along with threats of severe fines for violation. I was disappointed for otherwise I had my eyes set on those dunes up ahead for getting shots and respecting the purpose of the area and also not wanting risked getting severe fines as I saw park rangers knocking about in the area I just took this shot from the sanctuary's edge.

There was some kind of glitch over the years and every pic in the gallery is the same but if you click on the pic, you will see the original artwork.
The photo before this one shows the outside of this 25-foot sculpture by Marc Fornes, names "Pine Sanctuary.". You can walk under the sculpture into the inside, where the delaminated, double-layered skin provides rich colors, as well as shadows and speckled light. Inside and out, no section ever repeats itself, you see a new, unique angle with every step.
There is something about simplistic photos that just captures my heart. Perhaps it is just the reminder that sometimes in "quiet" or simplistic there is a strength, one that never needs to be explained .. it is just there. . Regardless I just love it .. :). Hope any of that makes sense.

The main sanctuary of City Methodist Church in Gary, Indiana.
A lone flower bouquet sits on the ruins of the main hall of the church. As you can see the roof totally caved in and buried the main podium where the pastor preached and lead prayers. As we wandered in this empty space, I could see loose pieces of wood hanging peculiarly from the ceiling.

Right from the beginning
The beautiful gateway to Glynde Church in Sussex, UK, has not changed for many years, except that the gates need to be refitted to the porch. Money is always needed for restoration. Images from the past in black & white and sepia still show this entrance, so I thought I would take my own in homage.

Over the holiday weekend, my daughter and I decided to go for a hike at a local park. We did the harder part of the trail and then looped back around to the area with these smaller waterfalls. Normally, they are just a trickle most times of the year but I had heard the roaring of the water from a few hundred yards away and was excited to see how much they were flowing.
It is always a nice treat to see this trail but with this bonus water flow it just made our day. Hope everyone had a safe weekend. Here's to the next adventure.

I spent a lot of a rainy summer afternoon in and out of the church porch, waiting for the rain to stop. How many people have turned this handle over the years, seeking sanctuary.
