Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. M G Ramachandran was cremated
at this spot. MGR was a very popular Film Hero and was fondly called
Puratchi Thalaivar ( Revolutionary Leader) by his fans for his People
friendly reforms.
Edit: I got the idea of the new title when typing out this reply. The old title was "MGR Samadhi Silhouette".
"... be as scary as my sister!"
This is one of our boarders at work. I took two photos of her - this is NOT the photo I sent to her dad. When I asked him about Samadhi in order to feature her on social media, he said that she loves people and is the sweetest cat. In fact, "she is as sweet as her sister is devilish". Yikes.
Happy Caturday: If I could, then I would
at the tomb / shrine of Sri Ramana Maharshi
in the preceding picture one of the vedic school boys drives the dog out...
Take then the music, plunge in the thickest of it,
Thickest, darkest, richest: call it a forest,
A million boles of trees, with leaves, leaves,
Golden and green, flashing like scales in the sun...

Whatever happens, let it happen; whatever does not happen, let it not happen. A mind with this attitude will be well established in the Self.

Of what avail is knowing things
Other than the Self? And the Self being known,
What other thing is there to know?
That one light that shines as many selves,
Seeing this Self within
As Awareness' lighting flash;
The play of Grace; the ego's death;
The blossoming of Bliss.

“Everything that we call invention, discovery in the highest sense, is an outward manifestation, the realization of the original sense of truth, which, having developed long ago in silence, unexpectedly, with lightning speed, leads to fruitful cognition. It is on external things from within a developing revelation that gives a person a premonition of his god-likeness. This is a synthesis of the world and spirit, giving the most blissful confidence in the eternal harmony of being.”

The Samadhi Statue is a statue situated at Mahamevnāwa Park in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. The Buddha is depicted in the position of the Dhyana Mudra, the posture of meditation associated with his first Enlightenment, also called Nirvana. . In the Dhyana Mudra the Buddha sits cross – legged with his upturned palms placed one over the other on his lap. This position is universally known throughout the Buddhist world, and this statue is therefore one of the most typical pieces of Buddhist sculpture.. This statue is 8 feet in height and carved from granite.
When someone looks at the face from the right side it shows a slight sadness and from the left side a slight smile indicating happiness,while from the front it gives neutral feelings.Buddhism is a philosophy that teaches us to accept sadness and joy as normal occurrings in our lives and it teaches us not to be overrod by those feelings.So some argue this Samadhi statue expresses that deep lesson to us.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on this photo, it's very much appreciated!

Panchamikallu, translated to mean a place of five rocks. This is a very ancient Jain site going back 600 years where legend has it that five Jain monks attained Enlightenment or Nirvana after sitting in penance. Here you can see the final resting place of one of the Jain Monks called a Samadhi

”Samāhita, samādhi, samāpati, ekāgra may be understood as synonymous, denoting a state of consciousness where the mind is most intensely concentrated on one thought. It is the receptive state of intuition, rather than the active state of thinking.” Lankavatara Sutra

Samadhi Buddha statue is considered one of the best crafts made during the Anuradhapura era.It is a sitting Buddha statue(see the post on Aukana statue which is a standing statue). There are 8 sacred places a Buddhist never forgets to visit at Anuradhapura.This samadhi statue is one of that sacred places(there will be a post on these 8 sacred places in the future).By a single glance at it,the statue has the capability to throw away ones agitation and to winds down the mind.(A fact that you will appreciate,if you ever visit the place).
Samadhi statue is made up of Dolomite and is considered more than 7feet tall standing.It is also believed that the eyes of the statue were impressed with precious stones as they are hollow.The characteristic feature of this great ancient craft is that it gives three different emotions when you look at the face of the statue from front,left side and from right side.

The Samadhi Statue is a statue situated at Mahamevnāwa Park in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. The Buddha is depicted in the position of the Dhyana Mudra, the posture of meditation associated with his first Enlightenment. Whether the Buddha's Enlightenment was the experience technically called Samadhi, or some other phenomenon, may depend upon the philosophical allegiance of the believer. In the Dhyana Mudra the Buddha sits cross - legged with his upturned palms placed one over the other on his lap. This position is universally known throughout the Buddhist world, and this statue is therefore one of the most typical pieces of Buddhist sculpture. It is not to be confused with the very similar "Earth-Touching Mudra," which depicts the simple action the Buddha took to fend off the illusions projected by Mara, who was desperate to prevent the Buddha from realizing that his, Mara's, projections, and with them the entire world, are an illusion. This statue is 8 feet in height and carved from granite.
