The livery of the swallowtail is distinguished by its intense yellow background stained and veined black. The forewings carry a broad black border with a row of yellow spots and a large dark mirror powdered with yellow at the corner of the "shoulders"; the underside remains dominated by yellow with veins and black spots. The hindwings are much more yellow above with a crenate border, a chain of yellow cells surmounted by a row of dark blue spots and a red ocellus, circled with black and blue; below, the yellow dominates even more with a fine network of black veins, the blue spots doubled with an orange-red spot for some of them. Remains perhaps the most distinctive sign: an extension, a "tail" that fits into the crenellated edge pattern, which earned him the English name swallowtail (swallow's tail).

Despite the fact that no less an expert than Josiah Whitney, chief of the California Geologic Survey (1860-1874), and namesake of the highest peak in the continental United States, pronounced this peak as perfectly inaccessible, Half Dome has become one of the most popular hikes and climbs in the United States.

The single most iconic feature in Yosemite National Park, rising nearly 4800' above the floor of Yosemite Valley, the reality of Half-Dome is that it is not a round dome that has been sheared, but rather an arête (or part of a narrow rock ridge separating two valleys).

The Ahwahnechee pinhabitants of Yosemite valley called the mountain, Tis-sa-ack, meaning cleft rock. There are many legends surrounding this name, but suffice it to say the grandeur of this place supplants them all.

Because it is so iconic, Half Dome is the subject of millions of pictures (hundreds in my catalogue), this is one taken on a summer day from Glacier Point that I felt looked best in monochrome.

Pintoresca y transparente.

The Tessellated Gecko

Shot while walking from Tamariu to Aigua Xelida in the Costa Brava, Catalonia.

TERAPI-ENTRENANDO, PARA NO DESFALLECER. 👍💪💪💪💪💪💖💖

Wikipedia: Wat Sa Si (Thai: วัดสระศรี) is a small temple close to Ramkhamhaeng Monument. Wat Sa Si is beautifully situated in the midst of Traphang-Trakuan lake northwest of Wat Mahathat. Due to its location, the temple is one of the most beautiful place in Sukhothai. The temple has a Lanka styled stupa. The vihara of Wat Sa Si is situated on the east side of the stupa. Further east lies the ordination hall on its own little island. Also a large number of smaller stupas, of which today only the foundations are visible. Due to the similarities in structure and similar Bai Sema landmarks, it is believed today that Wat Sa Si were built at the same time of Wat Tra Kuan and Wat Chana Songkhram.

"Carretera de Sa Calobra: The best road in Spain?

Situated on Majorca’s north coast, the Carretera de Sa Calobra, which is the only way to access the small village of Port de Sa Calobra, was seemingly designed by a drunk. At least, that’s the impression you get when you first look at the hectic squiggles of lines on a map. In reality it’s an astounding display of engineering, as the builders have managed to create a road that takes you along a seemingly impenetrable mountain landscape".
