19th June 2019:

I went next door to visit Yvonne this afternoon. I hadn't been for a very long time, which was remiss of me, especially as Evelyne, her daughter, saw Graham yesterday evening and told him that Yvonne has been diagnosed as having colon cancer.

As she's 95 the doctors aren't going to operate, but she's still convinced she'll be in hospital in the morning or "upstairs"!

The three of us were sitting chatting, when our Collared Doves came to visit. They actually aren't our Collared Doves, they're Yvonne's and she made that quite clear .....

Luckily, I'd taken my camera with me and I spent a lot of time taking photos through her clean patio windows. Really must do something with ours.

I also took some photos of Yvonne, but I will have to get permission to upload them. She hates having her photo taken, but Evelyne told her it was OK and would be nice. I will upload one, if Evelyne says I can.

But for now, it's just one of Yvonne's Collared Doves.

It's 95 degrees in the shade outside. It must be something to do with the heat that prompted me to post this photo . . . it was either this, or one of me in a down parka freezing my tush off.

I wonder if the summer weather impacts our inhibitions. It's a time for shorts, miniskirts, summer dresses, sandals, tank tops . . . and masks. This little chemise seemed appropriate for the times.

Dickson County was created by an act of the Tennessee General Assembly, meeting in Knoxville, on October 25, 1803, from portions of Robertson and Montgomery counties. En un restaurante aceptable de Olite, Erri Berria, costó unos 16,50 €. En un Hostal de 4 *, también en Olite, 22,00 €. Calculad que invertiréis casi todo el día entre el paseo para conocer Olite, comer y luego ir a ver el Palacio Real de Carlos III el Noble (1387 - 1425) y su esposa Leonor de Trastámara. Según la Historia, es realmente Leonor quien impulsa la obra. www.olite.es/turismo/palacio-de-olite. El Palacio tiene multitud de estancias, lleva más de una hora visitarlo sin guía. Ted’s 95 now, fit as a fiddle and remembers his working days at Abel’s shipyard in Runcorn, where he helped build OAKDALE, like it was yesterday.

Together with is three daughters and his son in law, he’d drawn up a plan of the yard with descriptions and uses of all the buildings.

Not only this he’d written three pages of notes listing the names of his fellow shipwrights, the working conditions, the tools they used, even retired shipwrights who’d worked on earlier boats.

Ted started work at the yard in 1940 on three shillings & sixpence. He’d even brought his wage slips to show us. A letter he’d also brought on Richard Abel & Sons letterhead, showed confirmation of his seven year apprenticeship as a shipwright. We now know where they sourced their timber, where the blacksmith worked, where the sailmaker was, where the office was, where they stored the timber, where it was steam bent, even what tools he had and how they were split for repairs to other boats in their fleet.

Whilst they probably won’t see this post, a huge thank you must go to Ted, Sue, Chris and Elaine for allowing us to time-travel in this way and to look back in detail at the specifics we need to know for the re-building of the shipyard along with the restoration and long term husbandry of OAKDALE.

Tahiti Pearl Regatta

From May 16, 2012 to May 20, 2012

The most important regatta of the Pacific island is organised each year to be an exceptionally unique event combining regattas, sailing and canoes, human encounters as well as discoveries of charm. It’s the Tahiti Pearl Regatta. It is certainly the annual meeting point for those truly passionate about sailing from Tahiti and the islands of French Polynesia.

An exceptional location

The 2012 edition of the route allows the discovery of the islands of Raiatea and Taha’a, which share a lagoon, and of course Bora Bora.

The Tahiti Pearl Regatta is - and always has been - open to all types of sailing boats (monohull, catamarans, trimarans, private or chartered, even trans-pacific boats) with no size limits.

Each year between 40 and 50 boats from many different nationalities face off over three days, stopping the competition each night on one of the mythical French Polynesian islands.

The festivities begin from the 15th of May to the sound of Toere drums, Tahitian ukuleles and traditional song and dance.

I was fortunate enough to fly a dual camera rig not to miss this session... when setting up the cameras, my finger probabaly changed the S 95 settings to "macro"... as a result all pictures made with the S95 went straight to the trash and I could only use the GoPro images.

for this session I was not on my "official" boat but boarded a local fishermen boat and we were just playing with the light, wind and speed, a rather challenging KAP session.

Hammer is staying with us until Sunday night because his family are on their way to a conference. Poor guy is getting kinda old and he's had some leg issues. He seems to have a re-injured cruciate but is too old for surgery (he's had it before). He's taking pain meds once a day and is managing ok. Just no stairs and only one walk per day allowed.

He's a rescue and is truly the gentlest, sweetest dog I've ever known. He's 95 lbs of pit bull and mastiff mixed and sort of what I think the Buddha would be like if he were canine. Heh.

He's happy to be here, but also misses his family. Our boy Tyson loves to snuggle up with him (he stays with Hammer when we go away). We love our Bubba-Lou.
