J. Percy Priest Dam (seen on the right side of the photograph above) was built at mile 6.8 on the Stones River, a tributary of the Cumberland River. Construction began June 2, 1963 and the dam was completed in 1968. Rising 130 feet above the stream bed, the combination earth & concrete-gravity dam is 2,716 feet long with a hydroelectric power generating plant. The dam has contributed significantly in reducing the frequency & severity of flooding in the Cumberland Valley since its construction. In addition to the far reaching effects of flood control, the project contributes to the available electric power supply of this area as well. Average annual energy output is 70 million kilowatt hours.

J. Percy Priest Lake (also see above behind the dam) encompasses portions of Davidson, Rutherford, and Wilson Counties in Middle Tennessee. It is 42-miles long with 213 miles of shoreline and contains 14,200 surface acres of water. The lake provides ample water area for recreation, fishing, and a great opportunity for great photography!

I stopped to take photos of this row of trees that were in full Autumn color and found this particular tree...entirely yellow (with a few remaining hints of green) except for this one little branch in the middle of the tree that decided it wanted to be red!! These were the only red leaves on the whole tree...amazing!! God's design of nature is just amazing and I am continually in awe when I see things like this...

Stones River National Battlefield is, historically, the site on which the Union Army of the Cumberland under General William S. Rosecrans met the Army of the Tennessee commanded by General Braxton Bragg. On December 30, 1862, the Union forces massed west of Murfreesboro and planned their attack on the city. The Confederate forces were prepared on the morning of December 31, 1862; they surprised the Union forces with a heavy attack at the southern end of the Union line. The Union line was thrown back to the Nashville Pike. The battle raged for three days while the Union forces held their ground and the Rebel forces retreated southward. The bloody battle cost both armies 23,000 casualties and was recorded as the bloodiest battle fought west of the Appalachians during the Civil War. The battle was the beginning of the Union drive to cut the Confederacy in half. Although the battle was fought over a 3,700-acre area, Stones River is comprised of the 351 acres of ground where the hardest fighting occurred and where Stones River National Cemetery was established in 1865 and Hazen's Monument was erected in 1863. The National Cemetery contains the bodies of all Union soldiers known & unknown that were found in & around the battlefield. It also contains Union dead from battles such as Franklin, Spring Hill and small skirmishes along the Nashville and Decatur Railroad. Today the cemetery is the final resting place for soldiers of all wars since the Civil War.

Erected in 1863 the Hazen Brigade Monument may be the oldest Civil War Monument anywhere. It honors not only those members of the brigade that died at Stones River, but also those who fell at Shiloh in 1862 and Chickamauga-Chattanooga in the fall of 1863.

The Stones River National Battlefield was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on October 15, 1966. Bennett Classic Antiques Auto Museum

Website: www.bennettclassics.com

Bennett Classics Antique Auto Museum houses around 70 vehicles manufactured from 1913 to 2013. The museum was started in 2007 by brothers Buddy & Joe Bennett, whose uncle owned a Ford dealership in Burnsville, NC, when they were growing up, instilling in them a lifelong love of cars. They moved to Rutherford County in the late 1960s, where they both started successful businesses, and on the side started collecting cars. Over the years, their collection that was in storage grew, but it wasn't until their retirement, when they started sorting through the collection, that they realized they had a whole building full of unrestored, low mileage automobiles. It was then the idea of the museum was born. The museum won the National Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum Award in 2014, an honor based on the museum's involvement in community, its presentation of the antique car hobby, the preservation of the automobiles, and the educational efforts of the museum. The collection includes many types of automobiles, from Model Ts to Mack trucks, a Shelby Mustang, the retired Forest City American Lanfranc fire truck, and a 1963 Ford Mayberry sheriff's car signed by Don Knotts (A.K.A Barney Fife of the Andy Griffith TV show).

A T-bucket (or Bucket T) is a hot rod, based on a Ford Model T of the 1915 to 1927 era, but extensively modified. T-buckets were favorites for greasers. Model Ts were hot-rodded and customized from the 1920s on, but the T-bucket was specifically created and named by Norm Grabowski in the 1950s. This car was named Lightning Bug, better known as the Kookie Kar, after being redesigned by Grabowski and appearing in the TV show 77 Sunset Strip, driven by character Gerald "Kookie" Kookson. The exposure it gained led to numerous copies being built. A genuine T-bucket has the two-seater body of a Model T roadster (with or without the turtle deck or small pickup box), this "bucket"-shaped body shell giving the cars their name. A Model T-style radiator is usually fitted, and even these can sometimes be barely up to the task of cooling the large engines fitted. Windshields, when fitted, are vertical glass like the original Model T. Today, T-buckets remain common. They generally feature an enormous engine for the size and weight of the car, generally a V8, along with tough drivetrains to handle the power and large rear tires to apply that power to the road. The front wheels are often much narrower than the rear wheels, and are often motorcycle wheels.

Dagmar's words about Jim Cole's are as beautiful as her photo...

The Rockvale Store, located in Rutherford County, Tennessee, was built by Francis (Frank) Marion Carlton in 1884. The store is located at the intersection of Versailles Road and Rockvale Road, formerly State Highway 99. Rockvale Store is eligible under Criterion A for listing in the National Register for Historic Places due to its local significance in the development of commercial trade in Rockvale, a rural farming community, from 1884 to the present (1995 when this narrative was written). It is also a locally significant example under Criterion C as a commercial building of Folk Victorian style, with Italianate details.

Rockvale Store served as much more than a place to purchase sugar, flour, thread, or boiled eggs. The general store was the nerve center of the community. In the social culture of rural areas, the importance of the general store was essential to the lifeblood of the community. Informal gatherings of local farmers on a rainy day, small talk between wives, children skipping rope—these happenings that many take for granted served to strengthen the community. In the context of surviving rural country stores in Rutherford County, the Rockvale Store appears to be the oldest, still in its original mid-1880s setting. This survival of a late nineteenth century country store adds significance to the property's significant associations with commerce in the village of Rockvale and rural Rutherford County.

Based on the information above and much more, the Rockvale Store was added to the NRHP on September 14, 1995. All information above was taken from the original documents submitted for listing consideration and can be viewed here:

Ford Model AA is a truck from Ford. As the Model T and TT became obsolete and needed to be replaced, Henry Ford began initial designs on the Model A and Model AA in 1926. Basic chassis layout was done rapidly and mechanical development was moved forward quickly. Body design and style was developed and then outsourced to various body manufacturers, including Briggs and Murray. The designs of the Model A shared parts and materials with the Model AA Ford, notably the body, engine and interior. The AA usually received plainer interiors than their car counterparts. The Model AA followed similar design changes to the Model A during the AA's four years in production, often delayed anywhere from three to nine months.[citation needed] The mechanical changes and upgrades were done during production of the vehicles. Body changes that occurred between 1929 and 1930 were also integrated into AA production, but leftover parts were used longer in the heavy commercial trucks.
