According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the Rusty Blackbird is one of North America’s most rapidly declining species. The population has plunged an estimated 85-99 percent over the past forty years and scientists are completely puzzled as to what is the cause.
They are relatively uncommon denizens of wooded swamps, breeding in the boreal forest and wintering in the eastern U.S. In winter, they travel in small flocks and are identified by their distinctive rusty feather edges and pallid yellow eyes.

Since I don't often see these birds, I thought I would post another from yesterday's session.

This truck is parked at the local farm shop and rusting away, considered junk. I want to adopt it. Now.

One of the most common and widespread sparrows in North America. Fairly large with a long, rounded tail. Overall coarsely patterned with gray and brown, usually with more reddish-brown wings and tail. Look especially for thick brown streaks on the underparts and a broad dark mustache stripe. Significant variation in plumage geographically: relatively pale and rusty in the southwestern U.S.; blacker streaking in California; overall dusky in the Pacific Northwest. Larger, longer-tailed and usually more rusty than Savannah Sparrow. Found in a variety of scrubby habitats both near and far from human development, especially edges of fields, often near water. Listen for husky "chimp" calls and melodic song with chips and trills. (eBird)

Always happy to see a Song Sparrow. This one is in fresh breeding plumage and looks great against the pale grey background of the Ottawa River.

Like most members of the blackbird family, the Rusty Blackbird undergoes only one molt per year. The change in appearance between winter and summer results from the rust-colored feather tips of "winter plumage" wearing off and leaving behind the smooth black or gray "breeding plumage."
The Rusty Blackbird feeds mostly on insects and plant matter, but it sometimes attacks and eats other birds. It has been documented feeding on sparrows, robins, and snipe, among others.

One of most sought after restaurant in South Florida, Located on the Island of Key Biscayne. It has a breathtaking view of the Miami Skyline while offering superb cuisine and service. The fresh seafood changes with the season, deliciously enhanced with island-influenced salsas and flavors. Rusty Pelican is the perfect spot for a romantic interlude or that special occasion. And off course one of my favorite dinner sports in Miami.
Happy Fence Friday, everyone!

The blackbird is standing on a floating log in the pond--though the floating vegetation make it look as solid ground.
Todays one form of exercise was a walk round the village and through one of the farmyards. This was a pile of rusty stuff huddled in one corner.
This is a detail of a "200 Lire" coin (the old italian currency) found near the sea shore by my wife.
More in detail, it is a "special edition" for the 1992 "World Exhibition of thematic Philately" held in Genova.
I tried to perfectly align the focus plane with the coin, but the high magnification (and my poor skills) prevented me to obtain a perfect result.
Therefore, the left part of the image is sharper than the right one.
Anyway, I hope that you will like the result.
Have a nice and happy MM, dear friends! ;-)
You know, rust is just oxidation.
The same chemical process as fire.
Oxygen interacts with steel,
electrons drift from one element to the other.
So really, rust is a slow fire. Isn't that weird?
Water causes something to burn.
