the macromonday theme this week is rule
and i just couldn't resist a bit of overlay work ~grin~
(my thumb and my ruler)
A rule of thumb is a principle with broad application that is not intended to be strictly accurate or reliable for every situation. It is an easily learned and easily applied procedure for approximately calculating or recalling some value, or for making some determination
The term is thought to originate with carpenters who used the length of the tip of their thumbs (i.e., inches) rather than rulers for measuring things, cementing its modern use as an imprecise yet reliable and convenient standard. Another possible origin of the phrase comes from measurement, in particular in agricultural fields. The plants need a fairly precise depth to seed properly, whether planted from seed or being replanted, but the depth can sometimes be estimated using the thumb. That is, a "rule (measurement) of thumb". Macro Monday "Rule"

"A rule of thumb is a principle with broad application that is not intended to be strictly accurate or reliable for every situation. It is an easily learned and easily applied procedure for approximately calculating or recalling some value, or for making some determination. Compare this to heuristic, a similar concept used in mathematical discourse, psychology, and computer science, particularly in algorithm design." Source Wikipedia.
My interpretation of a Rule. If it's way off the weekly topic I'll use it as My Macro Monday.

The fruit rant begins here. If you go to Paris visit the Marché d'Aligre in the 12th district. You can smell the fruit way before you get there. It is piled up in the hundredweight - all at a pitch of perfect ripeness and ridiculously cheap. It makes you realise what an enormous and productive country France is. Come back to Tesco in England. Four rock hard "Finest" peaches for a small fortune. I am sure they can do better.

Pristine blues, palm shadows, early morning jogger and a young mother trying to coax her little daughter further into the water. I could hear her reluctance to go any further from where I was standing.
By the way... an unspoken rule of thumb in Hawaii, if the kids are under five, swimsuits are very optional. If you are older than five, most anything goes here including thongs, semi thongs and speedos!
Before you ask . . ."Yes, I got a new suit for the trip, which tied at the waist, and almost covered my knees!" :)

after reading a bit about the weekly theme "rule of thirds" I found that it is considered a "rule of thumb" for photography - hence my idea for the weekly pic...
A rule on thumb in New England is to plant your potatoes when the dandelions bloom.

This is the garden bed where peas and spinach are to be planted this spring, and french green beans later in May. Almost ready to turn the compost and horse manure in with a fork, once the soil dries out a bit. The test is to take a handful of soil and compress it in your fist. If it stays a ball when you open your hand, the soil is too wet; If it falls apart, its dry enough to work.

If you can read my dreams, better be dumb
For what I dreamt tonight is for my eyes
Only to see. Applying the rule of thumb
And noting your dark face at the sunrise
You saw it all. It’s difficult to tell
If you just took my dreams as an alarm
Or if you sensed a shade, a foreign smell,
A different wavelength touching my arm.
At night we lie, and side by side we lay
In our sleep, growing our private shell
Of breath and thoughts, shattered by the day
A crystal egg that breaks at the first bell.
We walked in the deep water: you lose balance and fell,
Helpless I saw you sinking, losing your precious shell.

OH WELL . . . As history tells us, soon details may not be remembered about the Oscars 2015, but it might go down in history as the year that actress Lupita Nyong'o had her $150,000 Oscar evening gown, made of pearls, go missing from her posh London Hotel room in West Hollywood on the Sunset Strip; this hotel could have changed history if it had only followed one simple rule of thumb: TRIM YOUR BUSHES IN THE FRONT, if they had only attended the neighborhood watch meeting.

Bringing You the Moon (With a Fence Around It)
This is the same as the previous capture: I just edited out a lot of outer space to give it a little more oomph.
