Have a great day everyone!
This one was feeding between the raised beds and gave me a clean background. Very nice of it. 😉

The Ruby-crowned Kinglet is a tiny bird that lays a very large clutch of eggs—there can be up to 12 in a single nest. Although the eggs themselves weigh only about a fiftieth of an ounce, an entire clutch can weigh as much as the female herself.
Ruby-crowned Kinglets seem nervous as they flit through the foliage, flicking their wings nearly constantly. Keeping an eye out for this habit can be a useful aid to identifying kinglets.
Metabolic studies on Ruby-crowned Kinglets suggest that these tiny birds use only about 10 calories (technically, kilocalories) per day.
The oldest known Ruby-crowned Kinglet was a female, and at least 8 years, 8 months old, when she was recaptured and rereleased during banding operations in Texas in 2017. She was banded in the same state in 2008.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else....but sometimes when I finally see a bird I have been unsuccessfully looking for....all of a sudden I see them everywhere! I think in my case looking at images just doesn't make a bird easier to find....but once I finally see one and get to photograph it, it somehow sticks in my brain. These little guys are a lot more common than I imagined! And at last one gave me a little view of how they get their name!

Immature ruby throat hummingbird taking a short nap in this unusual cool spell. No worries by Wednesday hot and humid again as we start watching the tropics for hurricanes heading our way.

Ruby crowned kinglet. A twitchy little bird to be sure, so I'm always impressed when I can get a half way decent shot of one. It was kind of dark but I really liked the symmetry of its perch.
" Hovering in front of a flower to sip nectar, it beats its wings more than 50 times per second. Impressive migrants despite their small size, some Ruby-throats may travel from Canada to Costa Rica."

Dappled light on a landscape, or chiaroscuro to the early artists, catches the eye and adds complexity to a landscape.
It had rained much of the previous night, and the clouds were lifting, allowing sunshine to light the various colors of aspen foliage. Dappled light on a patchwork of colors.

Hard to believe the way they never sit still.
The already busy Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf got busier as the passengers from the Ruby Princess disembarked from the tenders.
I have yet to take a photo of a kinglet with its crown raised. Hopefully I can get that shot one day. For now here is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet at North Point State Park in Edgemere, Maryland.
I saw my first ruby throated hummingbird of 2019! He posed so nicely for me in the flowering tree in my backyard :-). He sat there for a while right next to my hummingbird feeder.
