My second creation for Round 1.6 of the ABS Builder Challenge!

The sinful seed part was used a total of 10 times in this creation, 4 in the organ and 6 in the stained glass window.

Hope you enjoy!

My third creation for Round 1.6 of the ABS Builder Challenge!

The spiky seed part was used a total of 8 times in this creation, all to create that deadly trap! I was able to incorporate a working feature - the spikes along the wall rotate almost a full 360. Check out the view of the trap itself!

I'm still trying to avoid microscale and direct castle themed builds. These contests give me the chance to branch out! :D

Let me know your thoughts! :)

My fourth creation for Round 1.6 of the ABS Builder Challenge!

The defensive seed part was used 4 times, two on each side as part of the design for the treads. I must say I like this compact tank! :) I was going for something very different.

Almost done!

My fifth and final MOC for Round 1.6 of the ABS Builder Challenge!

The triggering seed part was used only once, though I'm quite happy with that one opportunity.

Thanks to all of those who have followed this round of the competition, and those of you who have encouraged me along the way! I'm excited to see what my competitors bring to the table last minute. :) This contest was a great chance to branch out and get creative! Thanks again to InnovaLUG for hosting.

Also - thanks to 500 + followers, everyone! :D

The middle of January and we've seen only the briefest dusting of snow, followed by the more frequent sight of rain. That was, until my latest Get Pushed partner, the incredibly talented Edson_Matthew's (seriously - go be stirred by his stream) issued the latest challenge:

It's January and you live in the north. Time to get chilly.

Your challenge: "The heart of winter."

It seems that this challenge ushered in the inevitable with one big blustery morning. So out I went, armed with my new 'walking' lens, and several layers. (I probably shouldn't admit that this spot was a lot closer and the snowflakes a lot more fun than the term 'challenge' should permit...but there you have it).

And since I felt like I owed a bit of a bonus after resorting to 'Fluff' yesterday, an extra in the comments that I'm quite pleased with too.

Thanks for the inspiration - and uncanny weather prediction!

Get Pushed: Round 16 response:

sortedpixels said: Anyway, I'll push you to shot a portrait in B&W. If that doesn't appeal to you then, then I challenge you to shoot a color abstract.

I am terrible at portraits and no one would sit for me (probably because they don't want to have a terrible portrait taken), so I went for the second choice, which was very fun. Found lots of possibilities at the Detroit Autoshow. But I probably did not take the challenge to heart, otherwise I would have pushed to get a decent portrait.

In Round 16 of Get Pushed I have been paired with Bright Glass, who has some amazing landscapes and nature shots in her stream.

Her challenge to me was:

"I notice that you have a great eye for pattern and geometry ...and repetitive shapes and colours...

...so my idea is - - to use that flair you have to create a diptych...or a triptych...or a quattropych? -- so that they have some sort of visual linking ....The visual links between them can involve line... and/or colour... and/or content too ...so maybe a story can be created? Or they could be different views of the same thing perhaps.......The condition is that you take new photos to create the collage ...rather than use archive shots. Otherwise ...anything goes... cropping...editing...etc."

So my first idea involved these wonderfully colourful ceramic knives that I have been wanting to use in a photograph, and since I was given lots of latitude in this challenge, it seemed like a good time to do it.

All four photos were taken specifically for the challenge on January 10th. 2012. I hope that the veggie/fruit subject, the knives, the shapes, and the use of the same location and light for all the shots, link the four pictures. I wanted to have colour contrast for this and yet tie them into each other.

Thanks for the challenge, Bright Glass. I hope you like my collage and that it meets your expectations for the Push.

This photo was done for round 16 challenge in Get Pushed

For my very first push, I was paired with the talented Jill [ www.flickr.com/photos/24785880@N08/ ] . If you have not done already, please check her photostream for some excellent nature shots.

Her push to me was "For this challenge, I have this quote that I love that I would like to see you interpret into a photo.. let your creativity flow with this one, no rules or restrictions :)

"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to think, to breathe, to enjoy, to love." - Marcus Aurelius

This push delves into a personal portion of you... capturing what it is that makes you feel alive :) Have fun & can't wait to see the results!"

(I wish I could have the reader/viewer read the challenge before seeing the photo for dramatic effect). I chose to go the ironic way. I hope it's not cheating, since there are no rules or restrictions. Also, i think I fulfill the second part of the challenge that goes in to "the personal portion"

Living 30 miles away from work in a city like Houston, famous for horrible rush hour traffic, I have to wake up at 5 am in order not to be stuck for 2 hours on the road. That's at least two hours before sunrise. If it wasn't for the rush of getting ready to catch a van pool, and for the prospect of a 10 hour (at least) day at work, I wouldn't mind waking up that early. What adds to my problem is that I have sleep apnea, which is only one of my sleeping issues. (I even tried using a CPAP machine, without success). Many days I have to force myself to get out of bed at 5 (after tossing and turning since 3) and go to work with only a few hours of sleep, if that. So I'm sure you can see where I found the inspiration for this photo.

That said, I am grateful for every day. I'm very blessed and lucky in my life. Killer (the nicer of our two cats) reminds me of that every morning when he jumps lovingly in my lap and rubs himself against my dark dress pants making sure to get as much of his white hair as he can onto my clothes in the few minutes I have to drink my quad-espresso while trying to wake up.

From a technical POV, setting up this photo and having many tries with varying success was great because I always wanted to do a motion freeze photo. I tried a time or two in the past with no success and never had the patience to follow up. In this respect, I think "the push" worked exactly like it should. Driving me to try a new thing.

Thanks Jill. That was a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next round.

My Flickr friend Fergal... challenged me to try black and white images for our Get Pushed! challenge. He set the standard pretty high, and really pushed me out of my comfort zone.

Here's my first attempt. I discovered that the lighting has to be perfect for black and white, and the contrasts need to be sharper than for colour photos. I can't rely on Mother Nature to dazzle the eye with her colours, instead the responsibility for a good shot falls to me.

This challenge has given me an entirely new respect for those who work in B&W!

Thanks to all for your constructive feedback and encouragement. While I will always love colours, your words convince me to continue occasional experiments with B&W. Thank you!

Today is Tuesday, 8th July 2014 and biggest day for Brazil and Germany. One of them will get ticket for Final game of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

Good luck both of you !

In round 16 of the Get Pushed group I was coupled to Xavier who has an extensive photostream including stuff from very funny self portraits to eh, well have a look!

He met the push I gave him with an incredibly still life. So here is what he told me after he noticed something missing in my photo stream:

Sometimes I think we take ourselves too seriously as photographers and artists. So my challenge to you is to make me laugh. Find the absurdity in life and photograph it well, but in such a way that it creates a visual chuckle.

The subject and technique can be anything that accomplishes the task.

I had the little sign in mind for a long time, to be put on a frame with a middle eastern dagger.

So I ordered it for the push (thanks Xavier) and during a busy week at work had my thoughts trail off to different ways to shoot it and went through about 4 different concepts (most of them too complicated to shoot) and ended up linking it to a self portrait (well, my wife shot it, but I am the model).
