Now for something a little different. I was paired with the very talented and gentle lynn_nord in Round 12. Check out her photostream, if you haven't already, and you will see the work of a woman dedicated to becoming a better photographer through education.
Lynn wrote, "My challenge to you is to enjoy again that strawberry tossing! (meaning this photo) First, though, research others' similar photos and how they set it up, what they used for backgrounds, what they've done with the liquids, what other fruits work well, and any thing else that you think of relating to getting the image you want. Besides looking at photos, see if there is anything on youtube, too."
I recalled the photo Lynn had in mind from the start. I had a blast working on it because it was a beautiful, sunny summer day and I was playing with my camera outside while trying my hand at some tabletop. I had, also, gone into it fairly blindly. I just sat in the yard and snapped about 500 shots as I toyed with settings and objects before I got something resembling what I wanted. I had it in my mind that this would be a type of photography I would revisit before posting the image. Lynn's challenge, therefore, was one I got excited about very easily. True to her instructions, I stayed up late last night watching dozens of you tube videos on the splash effect. This morning, I woke up ready to try some of the techniques I had learned. I took 350 shots today. 250 were waterdrops and the other 100 were splashes into the wine glass (which I saw done on a couple of tutorials). In the end, I chose this image out of all the shots I took today. I did a bit of different processing technique for this one to enhance the effects of homemade red and blue light filters that I made this morning for this shot and I am well pleased with the results. It is not fruit into a bowl but it is something a little different for me; which made my morning.

For this week's Get Pushed!! challenge, I was paired with the incredibly talented jayneboo, who is a gifted nature photographer and doesn't back down from a challenge, either! I hope you'll take a moment to look over her photos - they're quite breathtaking!
In return, Jayneboo issued a choice of two challenges to me. The first was to explore my hometown and create a photo postcard to show it off. Sadly, we were soon hit with a freakish October snowstorm that dumped anywhere from 4 to 18 inches of heavy wet snow on Connecticut. Not only was most everything I'd consider scenic and photogenic now covered with snow, but it was downright treacherous getting out!
Good thing I was offered a backup choice, which went something like this: "Think of your favorite film, TV series or book title and show us what it is - with no hints or tips - leaving it to all members of the group to work it out. I am banning Little House on the Prairie - too easy for you I think!"
So, with a challenge worded that way, I'm really not at liberty to provide much in the way of commentary on this week's photo. Enjoy!
**Edit / Update**
It took a little while, but my challenger herself (Jayneboo) as well as Hickamore Hackamore actually guessed correctly what we were working at with this photo. The sense of loss in this photo plays out many times in The Time Traveler's Wife and I wanted to try to convey that sense of disappearance. I could conceive of two ways to accomplish this: photoshop or multiple exposure. Since my skills in photoshop (or GIMP) are fledgling at best, I opted for the second method. However, the camera isn't capable of it. "Hmm. I got it!" I picked up a party store strobe light and set it to the slowest setting it had and left the shutter open for a couple seconds, half the time with my hand in Mrs SmileMoon's hands, then quickly jerking it out of the frame before the next strobe flash went off. She was very patient with me. :-)

For this round I was paired with the lovely Ruth aka ruthlesscrab. She has a great stream and a special sense for the right moment!
And this was her challenge:
Option 1: I see you're enjoying Photoshop, and you had some lovely recent landscape photos. How about a landscape with a painterly feel to it. Have a look at some of pixellesley's recent work to see what I mean.
Option 2: Choose your favourite French philosopher and show one of his quotes through an image.
As you can see I chose option 1, the philosopher I will keep for later inspiration!
So I had a look at pixellesley's stream, I googled and read and looked and searched and found a great blog by Jerry Jones aka skeletalmess - not only great tutorials here, but also plenty of textures...thank you for letting me use them!
And then I set out to take some great photos...;-)...and after spending today in front of my trusted lappy I came up with this and another one. I had tons of fun, though my back hurts and I'm a bit cross-eyed now! Thank you Ruth for this great challenge! And I hope you like my response.
I took this panning shot in response to a push from my talented partner JeezyDeezy in the Get Pushed group. This was her challenge:
So, I would like to present you with the challenge of taking a photo with some panning action in it. It can be b&w, or color, or film or digital, whatever you like. But try to get your subject as sharp and recognizable as possible against the motion blurred background.
To be honest I found this very difficult as I usually use I high shutter speed to freeze motion. For this shot (various attempts) I used a shutter speed of around 1/10s, but although it blurred the background, the subject is not sharp.
