We were entertained by this low flying immature hawk, one of the lowest that I have ever encountered while it was hunting for food. Almost full frame.

I particularly liked the appearance of this stunner, whose looks reminds me of one that I tried very hard in vain to photograph last fall. Individuals vary considerably in appearance but the species is consistently skittish.
The surfers love this weather.

A dapper Rough Legged Hawk posing outside our car window in the later afternoon hours. Love it when they ignore you :) I really like this very light version.
Lake Michigan water level is quite high, I took this shot while visiting over near Holland where the waves had a lot to say.
We made a second visit up North trying to cash in on our previous success two weeks before. Although conditions changed dramatically from the snowy landscape to the flooded farmlands now, I was able to find one cooperative Rough Legged that sat still as we rolled up to it. It sat there and just watched us as we took tons of shots. I was finally able to get very close shots. Image was not cropped. We even got closer ones on the next pass.
this scene I have taken at 6.30 in the morning from another boat. The weather was very difficult and the skipper broke up our fishing tour 10 minutes later.
Thanks for visit and don't forget to leave a comment, please.

This Buteo is the member of that hawk family in North America which is most associated with cold climates. They breed in the Arctic, and their winter migration range does not extend beyond the mid and south USA. We often observe them over wintering here in central Alberta.
