After the epic Pan Aming as told in this tale: flic.kr/p/2nmZ8Ex there wasn't much else to do with my afternoon this far north....err east. After the maintainer got their locomotive issue resolved the WANM finally got moving to switch out their train. Meanwhile CP had already gone home and the OT-1 crew got their power out and moved down toward the west end of the yard where they tied down.

The light was gorgeous, though, so despite the power still being at the far east end of the yard out of sight I grabbed some scenes of this once great railroad junction still littered with memories of its Maine Central and Bangor and Aroostook days. Tucked over on track three are a pair of battered former MEC Russell Snowplows. Still wearing green and yellow paint with faded pine tree logos, nunbers 78 and 92 have been residents here for years as their broken windows and graffiti marked sides attest. Built in 1944 and 1954 respectively, I have no idea when these two last moved any snow and wonder if they ever will again.

In the foreground is the other side of the subterranean underpass built of corrugated metal which attests to how busy this place once was. This pedestrian tunnel was buit by the BAR so its employees could safely pass from their big yard and roundhouse on this side to their depot and office to the left north of the MEC tracks. While both still stand they are long disused with the depot now abandoned and the roundhouse sold and used as a junk dealership and completely devoid of tracks and its turntable. So even if Pan Am parks trains for days here there are no employees left tale use of this old tunnel from days long past.
