Although it can sometimes come as a bit of a shock, if you are inclined to go rambling in otherworldly places, you should not be surprised to sometimes encounter…well…fellow travelers; some of whom may require your assistance.

This particular individual came hurtling my way - literally out of the blue - in the form of a dull black orb that, coming nearer, took on the appearance of a seriously scuffed bowling ball that emitted a crackling, buzzing, nexus of sounds similar to something one might hear while having their teeth cleaned next chair over from a distressed rattlesnake getting a root canal.

Hovering before my startled eyes, the orb vented a jet of counter-clockwise flowing fibrous substance that resolved into a pulsating, slowly rotating, ribbed corpus; as of a spiral galaxy, contrary to all accepted physical law, emerging from a black hole.

Next a bilious cyclone of material shot down from one side to form a stabilizing appendage, while on the other, similar material spiraled tightly upward in a sparkling translucent cloud that coalesced into a shape at first resembling a cosmic cattle prod, but which I quickly realized was more reminiscent of a levitation wand (similar to those comically primitive versions sometimes seen at raucous social gatherings on Earth, but more apropos to the technologies and space/time considerations of certain other areas of the universe).

And at that point the purpose of the serendipitous encounter was, of course, easily understood.

Having missed the correct connecting space/time tunnel (sometimes referred to as a ‘wormhole’ ) between its version of the multiverse and ours due to a slight but significant miscalculation of the Dark Matter Correction Factor, but more importantly, having neglected to reset its Celestichron to ‘Simulverse’ rather than ‘Chronoverse’, the hapless (and no doubt overaroused) soul had simply become disoriented and confused while on its way to see The Spheres (whose gig - once you have found your way - is everywhere at once, and has neither beginning nor end).

This rookie mistake being easily resolved, the relieved creature (with an exuberant salutary twirl of its wand) soon reassembled and was happily on its way.

(But, {*Oh*} The Spheres! Sort of like music, only so much more!! {*Sigh*} Heavenly!!!)

This molar has been bothering me since forever. But I broke a piece of it off in August, 2015, and it was constantly getting worse so I finally went to see a different dentist. They are awesome (they don't smell like the dentist). Anyway, the tooth could not be save, it was fractured down to the root. But when he pulled it out, we had a surprise. If you notice on the root closest to you that weird bump on it, that is an abscess forming.

Oh, and I tried laughing gas yesterday as well. I have dentist phobia. Walking in yesterday, I had a severe panic attack. I was about to cry, I was shaking, the whole 9 yards, they put me on the gas right away, if you have severe anxiety, I don't know about anyone else, I would still need a tranquilizer to calm down. The gas was not helping me be calm just sleepy. But the tooth : )

Milford Sound, New Zealand after sunset. Fast exposure shot, I will upload slower exposures and variations of this same theme in the coming weeks, I hope it won't be boring to view them.

My first root canal experience will be tomorrow, I found out today that I have a dead nerve in one tooth, the past few nights have been sleepless with a throbbing toothache.

Earlier this afternoon, just before finally getting up out of the dentist's chair, puffy with novacain after my first-ever root canal.

These procedures have a well-earned reputation of not being enjoyable. Unfortunately my total time in the experience doubled because some sort of IT thing went wrong with the X-ray technology and they couldn't take X-rays for an hour and a half!

At any rate, home safe, pain managed, grateful for the great staffing at the dentist's (if not their technology), and ready to get on with the evening.

Day 197 of 365: I dread going to the dentist. I've put it off for two years because I don't have insurance, and the verdict is root canal treatment. Yikes. It's much cheaper here in Argentina than I thought it'd be, but my dentist's practice looks like it's from the 50s. She's lovely though.

TOTW: I believe it's one of the lesser known commandments that thou shalt not put off going to the dentist. At least it ought to be.

I know, nobody will get the obscure title reference.

the full horror

A beautiful sunny February day in Hartley Nature Center.

This image was taken with an infrared converted Nikon D200.

The Dentist actually took this photo.

He thought it was hilarious that I wanted a picture of that silly mouth dam. This was my second experience ever with one of those things on my mouth.

I thought I need some blood in here somewhere. I haven't done ANYTHING with blood in a pretty long time. I thought of doing this a while ago. One of my molars had to have a rootcanal when I was in high school. I'm pretty sure the dentist screwed up. I don't think he finished drilling the last root. So once ever few couples years that tooth gets infected and hurts REALLY bad. I want to just pull it out sometimes lol It got infected last time in January. And It's still not fully back to normal again. it sucks, but once I get dental insurance I want to see if someone can fix it for me.

Hope everyone is having a happy Friday :)

i was thinking of doing my last week as reprises of some of my favourite 365s. Day 137 was *not* one of them, but i was t the dentist and I'm too dribbly to try much else.

two temp fillings, back for two root canals asap.

i have one cavity in my whole mouth and it’s a doozy. i got it when i was something like 7 or 8 years old after i became convinced i couldn’t get cavities and stopped brushing my teeth and lied to my mom whenever asked. the end result of that fantasy was a mouthful of cavities, but - hurray - all were baby teeth except this one molar. so i eventually got fresh, new teeth and a great early lesson in the importance of good dental hygiene.

the tooth has given me all sort of problems over the years. i think another cavity got under the filling which fell out, then i had to have a crown and then, for reasons i can’t recall, a second crown. more than one dentist over the years has told me i would eventually need a root canal, but i was still surprised after my last dentist visit to find the time was now since i haven’t had any pain or tooth sensitivity. in hindsight i now know the slight sensitive sinus was not actually due to allergies but an abscess infection. yuck.

so i got scheduled for endodontic therapy and here you can see three endodontic cleaning files in the root canals. as it turns out the worst part of the root canal is the painful shot of local anesthetic at the beginning. the sound and smell of the drilling and the sound and feeling of the filing was more disconcerting than painful.

oh, and I AM NOT GOING TO GOOGLE THE LIKELIHOOD OF A ABSCESS INFECTION SPREADING TO THE BRAIN. NOOOOOOOPE.

Good Advice For Better Dental Health And Hygiene www.orthodontistdublindentist....

Taking care of your mouth is quite important. Your teeth will not last forever if they aren't looked after and your dental health can affect other areas of your body. For this reason, it is crucial you take proper care of your mouth. The information that follows explains what you should do for optimal dental health.

Eat what are known as detergent foods. These are foods that naturally clean your mouth as you eat them. Apples are the most famous example. Other choices include raw carrots, celery and popcorn. Ending a meal with a detergent food is a great way for your mouth to end the eating cleaner.

Root Canal

If you notice a twinge of pain in one or more of your teeth, make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible. These twinges are indicative of a crack or chip in the enamel, and are more common in people where fluoridated water is not common. It is so important to address the problem quickly because even a repair will not restore the enamel to its original strength. The longer you wait, the more likely it will be that you need a root canal or further intervention.

Your dentist may refer you to a specialist for a root canal, extraction or other special procedure. If your dentist refers you to a specialist, pay attention to how you feel in the specialist's office; you may need to ask your dentist for another recommendation if you don't feel you can get adequate care from the specialist he or she referred you to.

Dental health is important. You must take care of your teeth, mouth and gums to keep nice looking teeth. There are a few things you should make sure you are going for good dental health and the information here points out just how to do what you need to do.

They are perfectly nice people but that doesn't lessen my anxiety when in their presence. And even though they're responsible for my dazzling smile, I still dread going to see them...no offense Lisa and Dr. K...you're the best! :-)

Yeah, so the last time I posted this, everyone got caught up in the fact that I had a snaggle tooth, which I didn't write into Smile. It wasn't very important. It came in, they pulled it out, I got my braces. PLEASE INSTEAD focus your attention on my vampire mouth! This was a couple of months after my accident, right before I got my braces put on.

A couple of days ago I was enjoying a super sweet and sticky Halloween kiss, one of my all-time favourite candies when "POP" out came one of my crowns. Crap!! I was squeezed in today and unfortunately, there's a raging infection in what's left of that tooth (that might explain the pain I've been having in my jaw!) so I'm on antiobiotics for the infection and there's no hope of saving that little bitty piece of tooth that left. So next week, I have to go back and have it extracted! OUCH!! I have the coolest dentist, he was so geeked about me taking pictures of them working on my mouth. He was telling me about the time they took pictures for another patient while she was getting her first root canal done. She wanted to post pictures on her blog!

This is the only time that I have ever had anything THIS major done to my teeth besides braces.

guess what I did today... :(

Jonny in the Dentist's waiting room

I didn't know this was going to happen today. This tooth had been bothering me for a long time, on and off. I've had 3 root canals on this tooth in the past 15 years; the last one just over two years ago. I went to the dentist today expected to be scheduled for another root canal; past experience made me believe she would givee me anti-biotics and tell me to come back in a week. She had other ideas.

I had a dental appointment today and my dentist is strongly encouraging me to get my wisdom teeth pulled.

Several years ago, my dentist had a tough time with my root canal because my molar had 5 roots. Normally there are only 3 or 4 roots.

The boredom of a root canal. While I was left alone for a few minutes, I figured I may as well use my Sony Clie to take a picture I hope I never have the opportunity to take again.
