Romeo and Juliet

This rose, Compassion, has an exquisite scent.

I'm thinking of George Orwell planting roses

in his cottage garden in Wallington.

And of Clare of course, so often in my thoughts.

The love story between Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona, around 1303, but it is only later, in 1597, that the whole world learns about the destiny of the two lovers of the noble families of the Montecchi and the Capuleti thanks to the tragedy composed by William Shakespeare.

Romeo and Juliet - Love Theme

.

.

….un tempo per noi

.

…chissà

se sarà vero che…

quando l’amore si rivela

anche un semplice sguardo,

forse…potrebbe bastare

ma, ...se puoi ascoltare

il palpitare del mio cuore

ti sentiresti mancare,

togliere il respiro,

resteresti vuota dentro

e persino senz’anima…

come a vagar in un mondo irreale e….

non sapresti più parlare.

Quella fitta nel cuore

sembra a volte mentire ma…

quando si manifesta

come una lama fendente

è profondo amore.

Nessuna parola sarebbe

utile o necessaria…se

con lo sguardo tu potessi

me negli occhi guardare

….e immaginare…

il profondo sentimento che

nasconde questo triste cuore.

Solo l’eternità sembra

non dimenticare,…e se,

un tempo per noi

verrà e saprà ascoltare

…solo il miracolo della vita,

alla fine, permetterà

di trionfare al nostro amore.

…………………………….Luigi Mirto

.

.

….a time for us

.

…maybe

if it is true that ...

when love is revealed

even a simple glance,

perhaps… that might be enough

but, ... if you can listen

the beating of my heart

would you miss me,

take your breath away,

you would remain empty inside

and even soulless ...

like wandering in an unreal world and….

you wouldn't know how to speak anymore.

That thick in the heart

sometimes it seems to lie but ...

when it occurs

like a slashing blade

it is deep love.

No words would be

useful or necessary… if

with the look you could

me in the eyes look

... and imagine ...

the deep feeling that

hides this sad heart.

Only eternity seems

don't forget, ... what if,

a time for us

will come and will know how to listen

... only the miracle of life,

eventually, it will allow

to triumph over our love.

Discovered in the garden the other day after a wild storm had lashed northern Sydney.

My roses were battered, and I lost a beautiful 'Apricot Nectar' floribunda that was snapped in half by the vicious winds.

However, amid the thunder, rain and fork lightning I ventured out into the garden to cluster all the roses (in the glazed pots) together for protection.

And the next morning I found these two roses together. My Meilland 'Seduction' floribunda is on the left (she's a French rose) - she's Juliet. And my 'Mr Lincoln' is on the right. He's Romeo. lol.

Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on

The dashing rocks thy seasick, weary bark.

Here’s to my love! (drinks the poison) O true apothecary,

Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.

ROMEO dies...

I know I have taken a shot of this little bottle before for a macro Monday but I thought this is perfect for this theme and I couldn't resist. I decided to pair it with Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet, it seemed fitting. This tiny bottle would have fit perfectly in Romeo's hands and could have easily been his demise.

This photo appears to have been sharpened by Flickr - it is considerably sharper than the one I uploaded. I have tried again but same issue. I had the same trouble a year or so ago when some of my textured photos were not as I loaded them! Please squint and imagine it a little softer!

I really appreciate your visit, comment or fave - thanks so much.

A couple of weeks ago I introduced you to Romeo and Juliet. Two love -struck ducks that have been inseparable for a number of years. Yesterday, on my stroll down to the local lake, I saw Juliet (green bill) all on her own. Romeo (white duck) was no-where to be found. I have never seen them more than about 1 foot apart. I searched for them around the lake. He was no-where to be found. I was so upset to think of Juliet pining away without her mate.

I awoke at 3 am in a cold sweat worrying about their fate. I woke up my dearly beloved, and told him how worried I was. He suggested that Romeo had flown off with a better looking duck. Ducks can fly he reminded me. No way I thought. They are inseparable. His next suggestion was that a fox took him. This did not help me get back to sleep.

First thing this morning, I went down to the lake to see if I could find him. There was Juliet, all alone, seemingly distraught. A lady came along with her bag full of bread to feed the ducks. I told her of the sad tale, trying not to get all weepy without much success. Then, all of a sudden, there was splashing at the back of the lake and out fly the loved-up ducks frantically trying to get to the lady with the bread. I was so relieved.

It was then, with some embarrassment that I realised that there are two green-billed ducks and the one I thought was Juliet, has always been on its own. The real Romeo and Juliet must have been hiding somewhere yesterday, perhaps in their love-nest, getting ready for this Spring's announcement.

So Here's to You Romeo and Juliet. May you never be apart.

My bounty is as boundless as the sea,

My love as deep; the more I give to thee,

The more I have, for both are infinite.”

― William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

YOU KNOWETH ME SO WELL!! ; 0) – A Parody of Romeo and Juliet

We are just like those two kids from Verona you and I,

you know the ones who both get it all confused and die.

Except I am a Princess and you are my Prince

and our love is as mellow as a flowering quince.

You know the variety so tender and sweet

and where it comes from and where we will meet.

Not there for sure. but here where I am

or maybe where you are, but not in a jam.

Remember those taxis, the colour of fruit

and the hours you keep would better me suit.

I am trying to write this and make it to rhyme,

as I know 'As You Like It' so I'll beat to your time.

Come to think of it I'll also dance to your tune

and you know how I like to under the moon.

Hey man, not like that, so keep your mind pure.

If you call me mademoiselle, I'll call you monsieur

and maybe Count Paris as a possible place.

You know I once lived there and left a faint trace

of my perfume, yes that one and only for me.

I'm allergic to everything except that and the sea

and even that I'm afraid of if I get in too deep.

It's a metaphor of life and love, but not sleep.

You know I'm ok if you send me beep, beep.

A kiss is a must for star-crossed lovers who leap.

I live in a country where freedom of speech

still gets bleeped out by those who shorten our reach,

but you know I know nothing about political matters,

so back to our romance of endless night chatters.

Me up on high on my Juliet balcony.

You down below with your heart beating for me.

Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou?

Are you hearing my plea or milking a cow?

What are those noises I hear down below?

Has a pig found some truffles on the lawn that you mow?

We both live on islands surrounded by sea.

Now drink up your latte, it's poison to me.

Relieve me of sad tears and replace them with sunny,

golden and sweet are your kisses like honey.

I fall on my pen, not a dagger for me.

It's more compelling and mighty

and WE LOVE poetry!! ; 0)

“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?”

Romeu e Julieta.

'What's in a name? that which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet,' exclaims Shakespeare's Juliet, professing her love for Romeo no matter what or from whatever lineage he hails.

For our gleaming Metallic-Blue Mud Dauber Wasp things are just a bit more complicated. She was seen walking on the foliage of the orchid in the photo inset. It's an Aranthera, an intergeneric vandaceous hybrid of Arachnis and Renanthera.

Arachnid is the name, too, for the class to which Spiders belong. And far from being interested in the Orchid - even though named for Arachnis - Metallic-Blue was no doubt seeking out her favorite food, Jumping Spiders. I've seen them on many plants but never on Orchids, so Wasp might well go hungry. But her instincts are probably better than mine, who's never been particularly starving for Spiders. I stayed and watched a while until she flew off with no captures...

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet."

Best viewed large on black.

Spring has now hesitatingly come to Venlo and to the bluff above the River Meuse where in a little garden stands our Contorted or Corkscrew Hazel shrub. Only a week or so ago the male flowers came out in full yellow evidence, dangling and swinging in the sporadic sun rays. The very small - the petals are just under 2 mm long - red translucent almost neon female flowers soon followed. Even with sharp eyes you can easily be blind to them. It's dry this afternoon and in the slanting sunrays little motes of pollen are flying. In time there'll be hazel nuts.

Nuts like small helmets - hence the Latin Corylus. The 'avellana' comes from the Italian town of Avella to the east of Naples in the foothills. A harsh place, not much good for anything but scraggly farming but once apparently abounding in hazelnut shrubs. 'Hazel' stands for the dark, reddish-brown color of those sweet nuts. Shakespeare joins nuts and color together at the beginning of 'Romeo and Juliet' where Mercutio and Benvolio have an altercation over the wisdom of fighting the Capulets. Mercutio upbraids Benvolio for being 'dagger-happy': "Thou! ... thou wilt quarrel with a man for cracking nuts, having no other reason but because thou hast hazel eyes. What eye, but such an eye, would spy out such a quarrel?'

No quarrel here today between these catkins - the top of a male flower can be seen just to the left -, but only the pure flowery delight of Spring. Ah! and the mad blood stirring...

Well, what do you know? A mockingbird that does a Shakespearean improv?" Hahaha!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊

romantic moment

One can easily find traces of romance in Europe. I found these balconies so intriguingly beautiful and romantic that I couldn't resist in photographing these while wandering around the city of Barcelona.

Why romantic? One thing that quickly came to mind when looking at these beautiful balconies was the scene of Juliet on the balcony being courted by Romeo in Shakespeare's iconic play Romeo and Juliet:-)

“I ache on a much bigger level. I can feel this thing that is so big. It’s so much bigger than the human drama of a lack of a sense of beauty and lack of love for one another…is the fact that the earth itself, nature itself sees our beauty and loves towards us and we are deflecting that.

You think it’s sad not to love your partner or spouse or child at the pure state of beingness. It is much sadder that you cannot receive from an entire Universe that sees you and is sending back to you an awe-inspired joy that you are here right now.

This is definitely Juliet killing herself thinking that her lover is dead when her lover has concocted the perfect plan to stay asleep long enough that there can be freedom to love. We are in our Romeo and Juliet moment with the Universe.”

-Zach Bush

I had to stop the podcast a few times to digest the words that Zach was saying. A few weeks ago, something simillar yet not quite so eloquent had come out of my thoughts yet had not grasped the majesty of the concept until Zach spoke these words at the beginning of Danica Patrick’s interview with him a few weeks ago. This is my tribute to those beautiful and relevant ideas that came gushing out of his heart. This message is so important, so vital and crucial…so filled with audacity and goosebumps, I just had to share it with you. If anyone tells you your Lover is dead, put your hand on the earth and feel the pulse of Life flowing through every cell of your body. We are not just dead and empty parts interacting, we are all part of a Great Love Story that is just beginning.

Juliet is half hidden in this image. She enters the formless romance as Life begins to reveal itself on a whole new level...

Theme Rules: From 1558-1603, the time associated with Queen Elizabeth I's reign of England. This also happened to be a time of great creativity and enlightenment for her country. For this theme, show us how your doll might have looked or lived during this influential time in history. Perhaps we see William Shakespeare penning one of his sonnets, Queen Elizabeth in rich jewels and robes fully in command of her country or a naval explorer reaching new lands to explore. Alternatively, you could also incorporate that era's fashion in a modern-day high fashion editorial. Put your thinking crowns on and create!

"The Flower Princess" 帝女花 is one of the most popular Cantonese Operas, a Chinese romantic opera but with a tragic ending, in some way similar to Romeo and Juliet of the West. Here in this finale "The Fragrant Death" 香夭, the Flower Princess and her newly wedded husband (a top scholar), still in their red wedding costumes, have vowed to sacrifice their lives by taking poisonous wine together in order not to submit their lives to the new suppressive regime.
