Am 9. April konnte ich dieses Rollband eines alten Berliner U-Bahnzuges mit Zielen der heutigen Linien U7, U8 sowie U9 im Berliner U-Bahn-Museum erwerben.

Some time ago, Hack42 was approached by Data Net Drienerlo of the University of Twente, Enschede. They offered us a treasure trove of ancient computer systems, dating back from the seventies through to the nineties; VAX/MicroVAX, PDP series and Commodore machines, expansion cards, spare parts, software, manuals and even stuff that none of the Hack42 Museum (Computermuseum Arnhem) crew had ever seen.

This was a golden opportunity for the Museum to acquire new exhibits and important assets in maintaining and servicing the ancient computer systems. There was one catch; everything was stored inside a basement and sub-basements underneath Calslaan 3 (on the campus). All of the rooms had to be cleared and nothing was to be left behind. Fair enough.

We made a plan, we contacted the Kalker recycling company (to offload anything we didn't want or need). We went out and bought a few roller tracks/conveyors, we rallied the troops, rented a truck and in our usual military ops-style, we got the job done.

Be sure to check out the other photos and time-lapse videos of the entire "Operatie Exodus".

Many thanks go out to the awesome people of DND and everyone who came to help. Come visit the museum sometime, but do wait a bit for us to get everything unpacked and sorted first :D

It was time to re-stock Hackerspace Hack42's Bar and drinks supply.

Our regular supplier, Getränkehandlung Rabe, came along with a delivery van with goodies.

We used our roller conveyor tracks to make a path to the storage room. It was most efficient and the delivery man was well impressed.

We take great pride in being able to offer a diverse selection of drinks, we usually stock up on anything that looks fancy in Rabe's wide range of drinks.

This mechanical lift system is used for bung servicing.

This custom two-lift system was designed for the servicing of Bungs (large access plates on the bottom of induction furnaces). The hazardous and rigorous demands of the metal processing industry required a system that was robust and satisfied stringent safety standards.

Lift #1, which is mounted on a rail-guided cart and fitted with a roller conveyor, is positioned beneath a bung that is to be serviced. The lift is actuated rising approximately 39" to support the bung. The bung is disengaged onto the lift and lowered 35" so that the top of the roller conveyor is at the same height as Lift #2. Following this, the bung is transferred manually from Lift #1 onto Lift #2 which lowers 45" so that the bung can be removed by a crane for servicing.

One drawback of the roller conveyor systems is that there is a possibility that objects may fall through the rollers or be awkwardly shaped and sized and hence not move along the conveyor very well. An well suited application for this type of machinery is on packaging lines, where boxes or consistent sizes and shapes can move down roller conveyor systems with ease. Similarly, when air circulation around a product is needed as it moves down the line, as seen with candies, the roller conveyor systems prove to be extremely useful.

Roller conveyors like any other conveyors used in conveying industrial loads from one place to another. Both lighter, as well as heavier loads, can be conveyed on these roller conveyors. It has a continuous parallel chain of rollers over which cargo is moved. Roller conveyors manufacturers design different types of roller conveyors depending upon the industrial needs and requirements. Different materials are used in making of roller conveyors like mild steel, stainless steel or plastic.
