The basic ingredients for this image look a bit like this: Hasselblad Flexbody, Rollei Retro 80S film, Hoya R72 filter. But for spice I involuntarily added some backing paper issues, which left a texture across the image. Throw a healthy dose of chance timing as the Flexbody requires the focusing screen to be removed in order to place the film back on the camera. So once framing and focus is achieved, you are flying blind in terms of the exact timing of an image at the moment of exposure. But I have learned many things from the ocean over the years. Patience is one of them. I know few other things as patient as the ocean, with exception perhaps of the mountains, but even then I think the oceans have them beat. Also the fact that nothing is ever certain, that the wind will change and the tides will fluctuate and nothing remains static for long. So if one opportunity is missed, it is only a matter of time til another comes along. And that there is beauty in the random. The ocean has little control over how the wind churns it waves or how our feet compress the sand it deposits. Yet the resulting random mix of influences can created unexpected and beautiful confluences of events.

Notes: Using Rollei Retro 80s for the first time. Very impressed with the film's resolution, see it in large view. Negative came out dense, next time will try ISO 64 and 9 minutes on Xtol @ 1:1.

It took us multiple attempts to arise early enough to make the 100 minute drive from Zion to Bryce for sunrise. When we finally did pull it off though, the grumpy, pre-dawn thoughts were washed away in the glow of the morning light off the hoodoo structures of the silent city.
Technical note: This image was exposed on Rollei Retro 80S, a black and white film with unadvertised infrared sensitivity. I exposed this through a Hoya R72 Infrared filter with about a six stop filter factor, in case you were curious.
