Here it is! The ex LA Peterbilt American Vehicles Incorporated (AVI) from Superior Sanitations. Before Superior Sanitation acquired the AVI, another company Hawaiian Roll Off (not Rolloffs Hawaii) in Kona, purchased the AVI and an ex SCD Amrep Octo for their commercial route. Hawaiian Roll Off sold those routes and trucks to Superior Sanitation but remain in business for Roll Offs. The AVI is still in Hawaiian Roll Off colors when the video was filmed. I was informed by the owner Mike, that they purchased paint for the AVI and it will be repainted in Superior Sanitation colors soon.
I found the AVI on its cardboard route in Kona. The driver, Rich, could not have been more friendly and he told me many stories about the AVI. First, he told me how the AVI is everyones favorite truck and how it is tough, fast and rarely ever has any problems. Rich went on to tell me how the owner Mike, made some modifications to the AVI. First, he raised the cab cover so when they service the Peterbilt, they do not have to raise the AVI body. The AVI also used to be a stand up truck with right hand drive, so they took a Peterbilt door off another truck and modified the right hand side with a new seat and door to make it easier and safer for the helper. Rich even called Mike to tell him about me and they invited me to their yard. This AVI is incredibly loud, sounds great and it has a classic early 90's truck sound, especially in regards to the brakes and revving. I made sure to zoom in on the LA green bleeding out, especially the inside of the hopper that was never painted. Rich gave the AVI some pretty loud revs in this video and you will see this truck scream in part 2!
I hope everyone enjoys this video. There will be a part 2 with a major surprise in regards to the AVI and something that nobody has recorded an AVI doing. If anyone travels to Kona and wants to find the AVI, I strongly encourage you to. When I filmed the AVI it worked Mondays and Thursdays and was a spare the rest of the week.
That brief clip at the beginning was at a rare black sand beach. This black sand beach with turtles is located at Punalu'u black sand beach park.
Thank you Superior Sanitation, Rich, the helper, and the owner Mike. Superior Sanitation is a great company and on top of that Mike and all the drivers are incredibly friendly.

Here is what’s left of WM of Palmyra. It’s down to a storage/jockey site for rolloff containers, and some sort of very small scale MRF. A few years ago all the assets, trucks, drivers, and accounts of Palmyra were split between Lancaster and Camp Hill, with Camp Hill taking a majority of it. The result of the consolidation, drivers and trucks from Camp Hill racking up some serious miles and drive time to and from routes that are well over an hour and a half away, and having a very small presence in the Camp Hill area, as most of their resources were being sent way far. In the passed few months however, I’m not sure if there has been a change in management, or strategic planning, but Camp Hills operation has nearly doubled, as they have been bidding locally, and competitively, and have won some pretty decent sized residential contracts, bringing in transferred trucks from all over the Northeastern US, along with a slew of brand new trucks as well. As the local Republic Services yard continues to try to eliminate their residential division, and leaves more contracts up for grabs, and the impending Advanced Disposal merger, only time will tell just how much WM will grow in the local market, and if this yard will ever open back up and operate, or if it will stay a “satellite” site.

This is a company I don’t see too much of, because they’re pretty far out from me, but they do service a very large area, and some of their Rolloff runs are 100+ miles from their shop
First off, if I haven't responded to any of your messages or comments, I'm painfully sorry. I havent had more than 5 minutes at a time to write anything back to anyone yet. In fact, I'm writing this in a rush! I'll take some time the next few days to respond to as much as I can. Just know I'm not ignoring any of you, and I miss you all tremendously.
Secondly, I just confirmed season 2 for "Rolloff" today and we got a 100 dollar sponsorship to pay for each week of bowling, and additional money to go into the "cash prize" for the winner. So, we are planning to start shooting it at the end of September. 7 weeks of filming! (You can watch the first 3 episodes of season 1 on YouTube! Just search "rolloff hacksaw" to find them. Excuse my terrible hosting skills).
Changes in store? I'm NO LONGER THE HOST, thank god! Instead, Jay Morton will be taking over hosting duties. And we are going to have a panel of judges deciding the eliminations each week. Who are the judges? Jeff Schultz, Harrison Polo from ErrorFM, and MYSELF. I can be a really tough judge. I'm excited to start it!
So...
The ULTIMATE question:
What does this mean for me and photography?
Absolutely nothing!
I plan to be very busy with photography on top of it, so no more delayed absenses from now on :)
Hope you like this image. Inspired by a nightmare I heard about from my friend, and for some reason I just had the urge to recreate it.
The people I tagged? GO LOOK AT THEIR WORK. All of them are talented. And they are really supportive of my work, and this is my way of thanking them. You all are amazing.
And again, sorry for my absense on Flickr.
