I shot this one late night when the fog at the Golden Gate Bridge seemed to be situated in the opposite of the usual scenario with the north side of the strait immersed in the vaporous phenomenon, while the south side was clear.
Thanks for your visit and support!
A little over a year ago, we were enjoying the ocean and sights in California. This was our last trip before travel was stopped due to COVID. It was fun to watch the seals play in the ocean, undisturbed by people. This beach is closed from December 15 until May 15 during the seal pup season. I read an article about this closure and there are even court cases about who should have access to this beach. I'm glad the seals have it for the time being so they can grow undisturbed by people. I don't know if this is still the case. Taken in La Jolla, California.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

Indeed, chess played a significant role in the cultural and intellectual life of the Ottoman Empire. The game's popularity extended across different social classes, and its strategic nature made it a valuable tool for military training and intellectual development.
The use of chess as a means of military education is noteworthy, as it reflects the recognition of the game's ability to enhance strategic thinking and planning. The Ottomans integrated chess into the curriculum of military academies, providing officers with a practical and enjoyable way to develop their strategic skills.
The artistic and cultural aspects of Ottoman chess sets highlight the intersection of chess with the broader artistic traditions of the time. The intricate designs and motifs inspired by Islamic art and architecture not only added aesthetic value to the chess sets but also showcased the cultural richness of the Ottoman Empire.
The existence of manuscripts and treatises on chess from the Ottoman period underscores the intellectual engagement with the game. These works not only discussed strategies and rules but also delved into the cultural and philosophical dimensions of chess. Such writings contributed to the broader intellectual heritage of the Ottoman Empire.
The widespread popularity of chess, evident in its presence in various social settings, from the courts of the sultans to coffeehouses, reflects its accessibility to people from different walks of life. The local variations and adaptations of the game over time further demonstrate its dynamic evolution within the Ottoman cultural context.
Overall, the history of chess in the Ottoman Empire is a fascinating chapter that highlights the multifaceted role of the game in shaping intellectual, artistic, and military aspects of society during that period.
A strong dairy barn stands ready to do what it once did but instead now houses goats. Once we reach a certain stage in life, our life's work is replaced by something else, usually with us playing a reduced role.
Windmills have become part of the Canarian landscape, silent witnesses of a past in which they played an important role in the economy of the islands. In the case of Fuerteventura, they existed profusely because this typology is developed mainly in arid or desert regions, taking the wind as a source of energy, to make up for the lack of water currents. To this contributed the almost permanent presence of air currents in the islands and the orography of the island, characterized by vast plains only "interrupted" by these peculiar constructions.
Their typologies are made up of two very different types, but one of them predominates numerically. The most abundant is defined by an architectural structure of flat circular plant, with truncated cone shape made of masonry, topped by an irregular conical or pyramidal wooden roof of which one of its parts is open to give exit to the axis of the blades. The interior is divided into two floors, with access to the upper floor by an interior staircase, in some cases, or exterior, in others. The other typology, of which there are fewer examples, is defined by a quadrangular building, on which rises a tower made with a framework of wooden railings, which supports the blades. In the center of the tower descends an axis that connects the gearing of the blades with the stones.

Museum reproduction of a Bastet figurine for the Looking Close on Friday challenge: "black."
Bastet or Bast, also known as Ubasti or Bubastis, is a goddess of ancient Egyptian religion, possibly of Nubian origin, worshipped as early as the Second Dynasty. In ancient Greek religion, she was known as Ailuros. Bastet was worshipped in Bubastis in Lower Egypt, originally as a lioness goddess, a role shared by other deities such as Sekhmet. Eventually Bastet and Sekhmet were characterized as two aspects of the same goddess, with Sekhmet representing the powerful warrior and protector aspect, and Bastet, who increasingly was depicted as a cat, representing a gentler aspect. -- Courtesy Wikipedia
I don't know if these two couples even belonged together. But when I looked at the finished picture, I noticed this seemingly traditional division of roles and had to smile a little.

This image celebrates International Jaguar Day.
International Jaguar Day was created to raise awareness about the increasing threats facing the jaguar and the critical conservation efforts ensuring its survival from Mexico to Argentina.
Observed annually on November 29, International Jaguar Day celebrates the Americas’ largest wild cat as an umbrella species for biodiversity conservation and an icon for sustainable development and the centuries-old cultural heritage of Central and South America.
The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a large felid species and the only extant member of the genus Panthera native to the Americas. The jaguar's present range extends from Southwestern United States and Mexico in North America, across much of Central America, and south to Paraguay and northern Argentina in South America.
It is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List; and its numbers are declining. Threats include loss and fragmentation of habitat.
Overall, the jaguar is the largest native cat species of the New World and the third largest in the world. This spotted cat closely resembles the leopard, but is usually larger and sturdier. It ranges across a variety of forested and open terrains, but its preferred habitat is tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forest, swamps and wooded regions.
The jaguar enjoys swimming and is largely a solitary, opportunistic, stalk-and-ambush predator at the top of the food chain. As a keystone species it plays an important role in stabilizing ecosystems and regulating prey populations.
