On the way back from Madan Mahal, a fort build by Gond Raja Madan Shah, on a top of rocky hill in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh one can see this rock formation.Madan Mahal fort in Jabalpur dominates the skyline and provides a panoramic view of the town and the country side around it.
One can see numerous rock formations around Madan Mahal but one which attracts attention at an exit if Madan Mahal at the mountain is ‘Balancing rock’ . Balancing rock is an independent rock balancing over another rock, wikipedia calls it as an eroded volcanic rock formation.
Siwash rock in the Stanley Park in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Stanley Park is an urban park near downtown Vancouver. It is the largest urban park in Canada.

This impressive rock wall was built to keep cows and goats from wandering into the adjacent valley. The care (and work) involved in constructing this 'fence' was impressive, and clearly speaks to the aesthetic of marrying form and function. Looking toward Cime Campestrin (I think), taken from above Rifugio Lavarella. The road in distance is the trail we would take to climb over the pass Forcella da Lago to our next stop at Laguzuoi.

Rock City Barn, "65 Miles to Rock City", State Highway 127, north of Pikeville, Tennessee
"Rock City" in Chattanooga uses the barns since 1935 for advertisement. Out of about 900 in the eastern US only 100 remain.
Taken while I was doing the shoot for Mooks. One of my mates. This was one of many jumps he performed. Later he decided he'd start a school on how to do jumps as part of a rock show, and other musician skills in how to look cool, and how to pick up ladies at the bar.
Clearly a very serious photo :) HA!

I'm going through my collections at the moment including Harry's and my rock collections. Harry had an old school case full of rocks he collected in Central Australia during a school excursion many years ago and I have collected some interesting rocks over the years too. I have culled the excess ones and here are some of what is left. The smaller ones are in an old antique box I own.
I know what some are but many I don't. If anyone knows, I am happy for them to make notes.
Central Oregon is a geographic region in the U.S. state of Oregon and is traditionally considered to be made up of Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties. Other definitions include larger areas, often encompassing areas to the north towards the Columbia River, eastward towards Burns, or south towards Klamath Falls. These three counties have a combined population of 153,558 as of the 2000 census, with Deschutes the largest of the three counties, having approximately four times the population of the other two counties combined. As of 2008, the most populous city in the region is Bend, with an estimated 80,995 residents.[1] As defined by the three county definition, Central Oregon covers 7,833 square miles (20,290 km2) of land.
The region is located in the middle of the state with the Cascade Range to the west dividing the state from north to south, and the smaller Ochoco Mountains to the east. Portions of the region are part of a basalt plateau formed by the Columbia River Basalt Group, others are part of the slopes of the Cascades, and others part of the Basin and Range. The climate of the area is primarily arid due to the rain shadow effect of the Cascades on the western boundary of the region. Outdoor recreational activities, timber, and ranching are the primary economic activities.
Dillon Falls is the second of three major waterfalls along the Deschutes River near Bend. Like nearby Lava Island Falls, Dillon Falls hasn’t been widely documented or publicized because it is quite difficult to see the majority of the falls. Trails, however, provide much better views of Dillon Falls – enough so that a proper rating can be achieved. Now, the make up of the falls could be in dispute, depending on whom you ask. The falls are said to drop 65 feet over 1/3 of a mile of run, but that stretches the concept of a waterfall pretty thin. There is a substantial 15-foot drop at the top of the falls, followed by a long series of violent rapids. The book A Waterfall Lover’s Guide to the Pacific Northwest calls the whole thing 40 to 60 feet tall, and, depending on the edition, gives it as many as four (of five) stars. I say it’s a 15-foot waterfall followed by a long series of violent rapids.
Smith Rock State Park is a state park located in central Oregon's high desert near the towns of Redmond and Terrebonne. Its sheer cliffs of tuff and basalt are ideal for rock climbing of all difficulty levels. Smith Rock is generally considered the birthplace of modern American sport climbing, and is host to cutting-edge climbing routes.
In addition to the world-famous rock climbing, Smith Rock State Park is host to many miles of hiking trails, the meandering Crooked River and views of the volcanic peaks of Oregon's Cascade Range. Much of the 1994 film adaptation of the 1976 book Even Cowgirls Get The Blues was filmed within view of Smith Rock. Partial filming for the 1997 feature The Postman took place on location, while it additionally appeared in Swordfish in following years. Several westerns have been filmed here, including the John Wayne and Katharine Hepburn film Rooster Cogburn. The Rockhard building at the park entrance was built as a movie set for this film, portrayed as "Kates Saloon".
Chimney Rock is a 535-million-year old rock formation located at the edge of Blue Ridge Mountains. This geological structure came about through a mass of granite that was formed when the Earth’s molten interior welled up, cooled and solidified. Through billions of years of high temperatures and extreme pressure, the granite became a form of Gneiss. Followed by a slow process of erosion by wind, water and extreme temperatures, Chimney Rock was carved out from its surrounding cliffs.

Described as the Orphan Tower in a photo by N.J. Caire 1879, it was named the Orphan Rock in The Mountaineer newspaper 1898. A walking track to the top was opened in1934 but closed in the 1950s due to fear of falling rocks, note the steps and handrail top left. Originally more famous than the Three Sisters and adopted as the logo of the Paragon Cafe in Katoomba in the 1920s with the motto "Stands Alone", it now lies deserted and alone again below the scenic cableway.
Not originally planned but added by the captain due to missing out on a stop at the Faroe Islands, was a round trip of Bass Rock off Dunbar, Scotland. Highlight of the day was brilliant. 60,000 gannets on this island at times apparently.

I was inspired by an old television cartoon series called "Rocket Power". The young characters in the show had a blast skateboarding in Hawaii while video-taping themselves.
The last time I watched the show was at least eight years ago. Hopefully that will remain the last time.
I was at Point Lobos last weekend taking pictures with a friend. I took several pictures of this rock pile with an HDR in mind. Then my friend took my camera and took this shot. I liked the composition better than any of the shots I took, so I took this single photograph and created two more versions of it in PS, one over exposed and one under exposed, threw all three in to Photomatix and this was the result.

A diurnal frog, mostly active during the day, but they were also common at night when I would usually see them perched on vegetation overhanging streams or on rocks among rapids.

Red Rock Canyon State Park features scenic desert cliffs, buttes and spectacular rock formations. The park is located where the southernmost tip of the Sierra Nevada converge with the El Paso Mountains. Each tributary canyon is unique, with vivid colors.
