ODC - focal point

lots of lines and movement in this shot, however I feel that the focal point is the elevated rock.

Just a little rock with a little icing on it.

It probably should have a cherry on top. In fact, I might just Photoshop one in.... ;0)

This is Arch Rock Perranporth, which along with Chapel Rock (partially hidden by Arch Rock) are two of the most recognisable features on the cornish coast. It is at the south end of the beach where there are these cliffs with natural arches, natural stacks and tin-mining adits. These cliffs on the left side of the beach are full of the relics of the mining which took place here. Many holes cut into the rock which are known in Cornwall as adits are visible. But care should be taken in trying to explore the adits and the right equipment is essential for any exploration. Perranporth's history is a mixture of mining and its association with the Patron Saint of Cornwall, St Piran.

Perranporth (Cornish: Porthperan) is a small seaside resort town on the north coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Newquay and 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Truro. Perranporth and its 3 miles (5 km) long beach face the Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of 3,066, and is the largest settlement in the civil parish of Perranzabuloe.

The village's modern name comes from the Cornish for the cove of Saint Piran (Porth Peran), Saint Piran being one of the patron saints of Cornwall. It is believed that Saint Piran founded a church at Perranzabuloe near Perranporth in the seventh century. Buried under sand for many centuries, it was unearthed in the nineteenth century, and again early in the twentieth century, but again left to the mercy of the sands in the 1970s.

Surfing is very popular here and the town becomes a haven for visiting surfers during many seasons of the year. There are opportunites for a range of sporting activites very closeby including golf.

St Piran, who is celebrated in Cornwall annually on St Piran's day, March 5th, had his oratory here in the sand dunes known as Penhale Sands above the beach. Perranporth has a beautiful annual display of Christmas Lights which are switched on during the first weekend of December.

Perranporth is centred on a main street, St Piran's Road, which carries the B3285 Newquay to St Agnes road. The village centre has a various shops and cafés including a co-operative store, premier convenience store, the Camelot restaurant and a Wetherspoons pub, The Green Parrot, as well as six other pubs. The long-distance South West Coast Path runs past the village. There is a long-distance coach service provided by National Express (service 316) which runs between London and Perranporth.

Southwest of Perranporth, the coast becomes more rocky with cliffs rising to approximately 232 feet (90 metres) at Cligga Head. These cliffs form the Cligga Head SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest), noted for its geological and biological characteristics.

This Rock Pipit was running around very close to where I was having a nice cup of coffee and a cream cake after my two hour walk. They can certainly run, making it difficult to keep up when zoomed in.

It was really windy whan I was at Moffat Beach late Friday afternoon, but the rock pools were beautifully still and sheltered by the headland.

Handsome American actor Rock Hudson (1925–1985) was a popular Hollywood star in the 1950s and 1960s. He was teamed up in romantic comedies with Doris Day, but he also starred in dramatic roles in Magnificent Obsession (1954) and Giant (1956). In later years, he starred on TV in the mystery series McMillan & Wife (1971-1977) and the soap opera Dynasty (1984-1985). Hudson, secretly gay, became in 1985 the first major celebrity who died from an AIDS-related illness.

I did this for Christmas to give to my godfather. The man is a color-blind person and I wanted to give to him a doll we can both see the same way. Of course, I didn't make the hair, but I sew the dress, repainted the eyes and the lips and did the gloves and the face design.

The original doll was a Bratz Rock Angelz Jade.

Leave me alone, like a dog with a bone, like a stone that's been thrown, Let me be on my own: Let me rock!

There have been a lot of changes going on with my normal routine lately. Since purchasing a house and moving out of a tiny apartment, I'm now living 45 minutes from the beach instead of 25 minutes. Regardless though, a little extra distance isn't enough to keep me away from something I love so much. California's coast is undoubtedly some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, and I'm on a mission to photography it all, from San Diego on the south end to to Pelican State Beach below the Oregon border.

On this evening I continued my trek into south Laguna to a little place called Table Rock Beach. Some photographers guard their photo locations like its the holy grail, which I think is freakin' absurd. This beach is located off of Table Rock Drive and Pacific Coast Highway. You won't find it on the map when searching for Table Rock Beach, but I assure you it's there and there are signs at its entrance to let you know you're in the right place. Don't bother trying to park on Table Rock Drive. You'll need to park on Coast Highway and walk. Like many beaches throughout Laguna, there are a lot of steps you need to go down (and unfortunately back up) to get to it. Be sure you're in good shape before going because your legs are going to thank you for this, and by thank I mean scream what the heck were you thinking, by the time you get back up to your car.

Surprisingly, this is the first shot I fired off that evening. After I loaded my photos from this session into lightroom, I briefly glanced at the others and rejected the whole rest of the set. This was supposed to be my initial test shot to see what settings I wanted to use and I nailed it on the first try. All I did was I mounted my reverse graduated neutral density filter onto my lens, set my aperture to f18 to capture the sun star, and fired off a shot at 1/60th of a second. Later that evening the cloud formations mostly disappeared making the available light and the sky look rather dull. Photography is so much about being in the right place at the right time that it makes the camera gear secondary. You can have the most expensive gear money can buy but if you don't put yourself in front of beautiful scenery, you're still going to capture dull photographs.
