Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

Something I never thought I would see on the Mississippi Delta Railroad, wind mill trains... And my FIRST wind mill train at that. But here we are in 2023, a few years after Rock Island Rail took over operations, and these guys have turned it into a completely different railroad.

It's Friday Morning July 7th, 2023 and Rock Island Rail is taking one of several wind mill trains from the Canadian National interchange at Swan Lake up to Vestas Transload Terminal in Clarksdale, MS. This train being all wind mill towers.

Former BNSF SD38P, (now Rock Island) #1555 lead the first part of the journey from Swan Lake to Sumner, from there Rock Island GP38 #4373 was added to take the train the rest of the way to Clarksdale.

Here the train is seen passing through Webb, MS.

As of 2025, Rock Island Rail no longer operates the Mississippi Delta Railroad.

Rock Lake; Along the Nabesna Road, Alaska USA Mentasta Mountains

Interesting fact....Had the first lighthouse to be built on the west coast of the US. The current lighthouse was built in 1909 after the original one was destroyed by an earthquake.

Don't know what this is, and if anyone does, I'd appreciate knowing. It was growing up between the rocks along the shoreline of 13th Lake.

This was a shot taken just before the final Sunset of 2023 at Bonsai Rock in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. While the sky didn't exactly explode with color that evening, I found this moment before sunset to be very beautiful and peaceful.

Indian Rock, once a gathering place of the Nashua aboriginals who were part of the Pennacook Nation, is now a field surrounded by luxurious properties. According to legend Indian Rock was a gathering place of Medicine Men and Women who healed the sick of, not just their own, but people of neighboring tribes who sought out their powerful recuperative powers.

Popular among New England ghost hunters, many report unusual experiences when visiting this historic, little known gathering site.

I headed down to Dorset on Saturday afternoon to shoot at Pulpit Rock. It’s a very well shot subject so I knew it was going to be limited in terms of composition but it’s one I have wanted to visit to tick off the list. When traveling down the clouds were perfect, just like something from the Simpsons intro. Typically just as we were setting up the sky cleared completely and as the sun started to set it became overcast 😩. Still wanting to come away with something I stuck it out and luckily there was a few minutes of light just before it got darker and I managed to capture the image below. The gentle warmth of the rock and those beautiful turquoise tones from the water get me every time.

One lone walker during a low tide near Morro Rock.

I took this a month ago at South Bar Beach (Newcastle, NSW; Australia) whilst the rocks were well exposed following big seas....... a month later, and the rocks are all but totally covered again!!!

Couldn't but help notice the time and effort someone had taken to carve the pattern out on top of this rock. Add some lovely early morning light and a longish exposure to create some added mood - here you are.....

Enjoy the rest of your day and weekend - hope the weather is kind!

This was quite the adventure. The drive out to high rock point was 7.5 miles through at least a dozen “lakes” and a beaver dam... It was very windy out there so I couldn’t get a shot. Our remedy was to open the doors on the truck and shoot through the cab and out the rear window. Shelly was also holding a blanket to help block wind. Fun day in the Keweenaw.

Photographing the Split Rock Lighthouse in the fall is a mesmerizing experience. As the vibrant autumn leaves paint the landscape in hues of gold, red, and orange, the lighthouse stands as a majestic sentinel overlooking Lake Superior. The crisp, cool air and the clear, serene waters provide the perfect backdrop for capturing the timeless beauty of this iconic landmark. This photo illustrates the dramatic sunset illuminating the sky and casting of an orange tone on the clouds crossing at an opposite diagonal. Fall is undoubtedly one of the most enchanting seasons to explore and photograph the Split Rock Lighthouse. This photo was inspired from Greg Lundgren's Split Rock Lighthouse Reflection. If you like the image, then check out the back story Split Rock Lighthouse Reflection. Note: This is best viewed on a HDR monitor.

In amongst the wetlands, wildlife and rugged gorges, World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park holds one of the highest concentrated areas of rock art in the world. As many as 5,000 Aboriginal sites have been found here, including rock art, shelters, stone tools, grindstones and ceremonial ochre. This detailed, dramatic record of life in Kakadu stretches back more than 50,000 years - from the first evidence of human occupation to the arrival of Europeans.
