We were at the Sequoia National Park spending our evening looking at the mountain ranges submerged with the pink-purple hue left by the setting sun at the Moro Rock. We decided to stay for the stars. We kept a keen eye for shooting starts but didn't saw any (there were some small sparks but we didn't agree that they were meteorites).

After it went pitch dark it seem to be a good place to shoot some stars. The first shot itself showed a clean milky way! I was excited and thought to use the galaxy as the backdrop! We put the camera on the tripod close to the ground and stood in front and tried our best not to shake for the next 30secs. But as usual we moved a bit and so took a total of three shots.

This is a single shot with no gimmicks, no photoshoping etc, just the usual, blacks, whites, highlights, contrast and a bit cropping form the bottom.

After a wonderful rainbow sunset at Camel Rock, we climbed around to Horsehead rock for some astro shooting as the sky cleared magically.

The site is only accessible at low tide. The swell was picking up a bit and it was very dark. The astro shots came out well but there was close to zero light for the foreground. This shot was from when we were first setting up and some lights were left on. There was a red glow in the sky but I still like the effect. It is not a white balance problem as far as I can make out.

The Little Shebeshekong River, near Georgian Bay.

Since we are not allowed to be on the trails in Joshua Tree National Park after dark (in order to give the animals a break from humans), I did the next best thing with Split Rock. I processed this enormous rock formation to look like it might look at night!

Happy Blue Monday!

Taken last Saturday from 6+ hrs drive plus 6hrs on site shooting and suffering very long weekend just to see rise of the Milky Way at this epic spot! Well worth it:)

"Is there life on Mars?" "No, not there either."

Russian saying popular in the Soviet period, trans. by Vladimir Ivanovich Shlyakov (1993)

Columbia Dictionary

Found with head protruding out of a roadside drain on the driveway in torrential rain. Cairns FNQ. 2 metre sub-adult male.

Me and Indriði went out on short notice last night for a quick 2-3 hour spin up into Bláfjöll and we got lucky with the borealis that night. They were fairly weak to the point that since it was somewhat cloudy, you weren´t really sure if you were taking a photograph of a cloud or aurora borealis but fortunately, given the right camera settings, the camera picks them up better than the naked eye.

This is taken close to Hafnarfjörður, looking southwest and is pretty close to where I took the last shot for my PAW project last year, this time I was wearing significantly warmer clothing. The lights on the horizon is ambient light coming from Hafnarfjörður.

I got quite a number of what I consider to be good photographs that night so you may expect 3-4 more shortly.

A night time shot at Marsden near South Shields. Absolutely freezing but worth it. There was a full moon so at least I was able to see the ice covered rocks I was slipping all over.

Night photography around the Jumbo Rock area. It was almost a full moon. Thus enough illumination for landscape photography with low ISO. I used a LED lamp to light paint parts of the tree and ground. And with invariant ISO, I underexposed 1 stop and boosted the exposure in LR. Nevertheless, a longer exposure could have been used with no problem.

Top Of The Rock is an experience in history and scenery that culminates with unparalleled views of New York City from the newly reopened Observation Deck on the 70th floor of 30 Rockefeller Center, in the heart of midtown Manhattan.

There's a certain peace at 70 stories above the city, and Top Of The Rock Observation Deck is conceived with the express purpose of keeping that peace uninterrupted. Panels of fully transparent safety glass - the only thing between visitors and the city - are crystal clear for unobstructed, open-air viewing.

The view itself is unique and astonishing. Unobstructed for 360 degrees from the 70th floor, the breathtaking landscape stretches for miles in every direction. It includes a panorama of Central Park and the northern half of Manhattan that cannot be found anywhere else. New York's other landmarks are visible as well, including the Chrysler Building, Times Square, the Hudson River, the East River, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. It is, quite simply, the most spectacular view in New York City.

On an adventure with the family again, this time a whirlwind trip touring obscure California Missions. This lead us past Moro bay. My wife knows that wherever we are at sunset, I will need a few extra minutes to capture wherever we are. No exception here. I wish I could say I knew the couple in the image. I don't. They just happened to add the subject I needed (like the rock was not enough?). I hate the beach but it sure does deliver sometimes.

Shot in the early hours of a July morning, this is as far as the galactic core of the Milky Way rises above the horizon in South West England. Captured at Durdle Door, the iconic rock archway on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, which falls within some of the darkest skies in the county.

Nikon D800. 10x 30s exposures, at 14mm, f/4, ISO 6,400 on a Vixen Polarie. Foreground was a 15 minute exposure, same aperture and focal length, at ISO 400. Thousands of hot pixels, which I had to manually edit out because I forgot to shoot a dark frame!

There is no other place like the Acropolis hill in the whole world with The Parthenon on top of it. At the same place where democracy was born today we are enjoying the best view on earth.

From today's workshop. My first modeling shot, special thanx to my lovely group KWS <3
