Once a week, I mentor Natalina (a.k.a. Dr. Canard), to help her develop her multimedia and maker skills. This week, we finished building our first two robots together: we connected the wheels and motors to the batteries and the Arduino controller, and added a sonar to detect obstacles.
I’m really happy with our progress, and so is she: we did this in just two hour-long sessions. I’m so glad I could give her the confidence that she can indeed build robots. (Her previous experience at her school’s robotics class was disappointing, which is why we picked this task.)
Next week, we will turn them into 'poetic robots’, by mounting two of her decorated ducks over this technical infrastructure, as I did with Indigo the Wonder Duck — see video: vimeo.com/145585551
Then we hope to add a storyline, a backdrop, more lights and sounds, with impromptu dialog and music. I can’t wait to see them interact with each other. Stay tuned …

My signed cover art from the new Robots manga from Japan. Thanks, Greg!! This is AWESOME! The framing guy was an anime geek, too, and I thought he was gonna pee himself working on this.
For Robotics Day 2010 Nearly 20 vendors and agencies brought with them to Carlisle Barracks cutting edge technologies that may one day replace or enable Soldiers to do their battlefield tasks safer and easier. An assortment of air and ground robots, autonomous (independently operating) robotics systems, robotic exoskeleton, and miscellaneous robotic devices were on display.
I am charging the pneumatics system, to which I made major contributions in designing, on the FRC robot in preparation for its TV demonstration on KTLA. The robot was capable of kicking a soccer ball fifteen feet using the pneumatics kicker articulation system.

On Saturday 23 November 2013 a new exhibition, ROBOT, opened at Palace Green Library, Durham. We got to discover cyborgs, androids and to track robots through time and space!
It's been a while but I decided to get my dolls out of storage and do a bit of spring cleaning. Hanging on to most but selling a few. Wanted to get some updated photos of my robot girl though because I haven't taken enough of her since I finished her mod job :D
In the middle of the night last night I was attacked by a robot... a very small one. Fortunately it was all documented.

Robotic Spine Surgery is one of the unique robotic techniques that have been introduced to the field of Neurosurgery and Spine surgery in India.
To avoid any of the erroneous possibilities, or to take Spine surgery even more closer to accuracy to giving successful outcomes, Robotics has made a strong mark on the Spine treatment industry.
We are teaching a new maker art class called ‘Robot World’, to help 4th and 5th graders create their own artistic robot. This after-school class is taking place in fall 2017 at the Lycée Français in Sausalito. Students are learning how to make their bots move in a variety of ways, as well as play sounds and light up, using a programmable Arduino board.
This photo set covers the first half of our 12-part course, when students get to build their robots. Each student received their own robot kit, which they learned to assemble, control and program. They first built a chassis, then wired up the electronics, assembled a remote control, then added a head and arms, with servo motors to make them move.
We then laser cut wooden figures and body parts based on their designs, which included a police bot, a swat bot, a devil bot and a chef bot. Once their bots are designed and assembled, they will learn how to program them and make them move in different ways, then decorate them, give them a story, and present a robot show to their friends and families in December.
For this course, my partner Edward Janne and I created our own robot kit, using an Arduino Feather M0 for the robot, an RF remote, a custom chassis, plus three additional servos and more parts. Our robot kit is similar to commercial products, but with a lot more features, at a lower cost. It was a lot of work, but we’re very happy with the final results, and our students seemed to really enjoy the class. We hope this will encourage other teachers, students and makers to create their own animated characters, for art and technology’s sake.
