Last weekend we enjoyed another great live performance of The Nits in the Stadsschouwburg in Nijmegen. It was the end of the tour in the Netherlands and it was the icing on the cake.
In March we also felt priviliged to feel the everlasting energy of this strong Dutch band.
I guess their succes is related to the connection with the fans.
Hopefully we can enjoy another tour next year!

geboren in Den Haag, 4 februari 1950) is een Nederlandse producer, componist, toetsenist en zanger bij onder andere de Nederlandse popgroep de Nits.
Stips maakte sinds eind jaren zestig naam met de band Supersister. Dat leidde in 1975 tot een uitnodiging om zich bij de Haagse band Golden Earring te voegen. Stips speelde mee tijdens de succesvolle Amerikaanse Earring-tournee in 1976, maar verliet daarna de band. Hij werd vervangen door gitarist Eelco Gelling.
Met enkele leden van de Golden Earring nam hij eind 1975 de solo-plaat Nevergreens op. Deze werd in 1976 uitgebracht onder de groepsnaam Stars & Stips. Stips vormde daarna met onder andere saxofonist Bertus Borgers Sweet d'Buster. In 1979 stapte Stips uit de groep en richtte zijn eigen band op: Transister, die Ă©Ă©n album uitbracht. In 1981 trad Stips toe tot The Nits, met wie hij al als producer had gewerkt. Stips werd de toetsenist van de groep.

We were treated with some tracks of it, and believe me:
they are strong as ever!
At the end of the show they sat on the front of the podium and played an acoustic version of" "Home before Dark". For me that was the best moment of the night.
Marjolein was lucky to record it on her DV-cam, almost touching the bandmembers...
A night to remember!

Robert Jan Stips: Master on Keyboards and accordion, one of the
best Dutch musicians.
He performed with: Supersister, Golden Earring, Sweet d'Buster,
Transister, The Nits and also solo. I've only see him performing
live with the Nits a couple of times, and one time solo.
I spoke with him once, after a gig with the Nits in Nijmegen and
found out that he's a nice and friendly guy. I complimented him for
the power coming from a trio playing live. He told me that songs
often get that extra energy, you can't put in it when recording it
in a studio without audience.
I was referring to the song "The Keyshop" from the album "Les Nuits".
The live version was so different from the albumtrack.....
Nowadays I only listen to the live version :-)
Last sunday when he was performing with the Nits at Luxor Live
in Arnhem, I was pleasantly surprized with a high dose of that extra
energy in the songs.
The new songs from the album, that's gonna be released soon,
are a celebretion of recognition with that real Nits sound.

Tijdens het popfestival in het Haagse Zuiderpark voerde een unieke gelegenheidssetting, bestaande uit een groot aantal namen uit rijke Parkpop-historie, het nummer gelijktijdig uit op de drie verschillende festivalpodia.

With Supersister they had this hit She was naked. This song is in the film Control about Ian Curtis of Joy Division by Anton Corbijn . (A film you definitely have to see!)

Nits live performance in P 60 in Amstelveen on saturdaynight 6 september 2008.
Formed in 1974, Nits are still going strong as ever. The power that they have is enormous.
