Erinnerung an Helgoland. Das erste Mal Robben in freier Natur gesehen...

Borkum, 2015, 20151026_Bork_2919

Something different. One from my trip to South Africa. Some of the best views of Table Mountain can be had from Robben Island. What a moving experience it was visiting this island.

Herr, wenn du es wirklich gut mit uns meinst, lasse Fische vom Himmel fallen!!

Objektiv: Tamron 35-150 mm, 2.8 - 4.0

this is said to be one of the oldest lighthouses in the Cape...

May be one of my south african contacts can explain :-)

pity I wasn't able to get any other views of this beauty, as we were carried in a bus with no out.. it's a prison-island...

Here is a 3-image aerial panorama of Robben Island... captured shortly before sunset through the open door of a light aircraft.

Situated just under 7 kilometres from Blaauwberg beach along the west coast of Cape Town, this roughly oval-shaped island is only 3.3 km long and 1.9 km wide.

This is the island where former president Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 of his 27 years behind bars.

In fact... THREE of South Africa's recent presidents were imprisoned here! Nelson Mandela, Kgalema Motlanthe AND Jacob Zuma! It must be a very special place!? ;)

This is the highest resolution photo that I've ever seen of Robben Island. If you zoom right in to the prison on the far side of the island... you can actually make out the cell where Nelson was held! You can also clearly see the limestone quarry where the prisoners would spend their days chipping rocks.

Panorama, Nikon D800, Nikkor 24 - 70 mm at 55 mm, ISO of 100, aperture of f/8 with a 1/160th second exposure.

Political activist Nelson Mandela was imprisoned there for 18 of the 27 years he served behind bars before the fall of apartheid.

One of the mass dormitories at Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent his years in captivity. More than 40 people would be kept in this room.

On this particular evening up on Signal Hill, the sunset light, colours and cloud display was magical. Everywhere I looked was breath taking. The next 4 images are dedicated to the stunning display of nature on that evening. This photograph is a panorama made up of 5 vertical images displaying the sunset over Robben Island.

Robbenbabys
