Another very typical stand in rural/semi urban streets in India. They keep the wood burning in the small pot (hence the smoke) to roast and keep peanuts hot. They are usually sold by a cup in the self-made cone-shaped out of old newspaper packets.

We started to prepare the achar right after lunch. ER toasted both the sesame seeds and peanuts till they were golden and peeled and ground the later. He helped to ground the “spicy rempah” and fried this in oil till aromatic. I did the rest. It was a great relief that he could help out in the kitchen.
Achar is a favourite of the Southeast Asian pickled vegetables cooked or marinated in spices, vinegar and oil. The combination of vegetables is flexible; just go according to your preferences. Pineapple would be a great addition too. This achar were cooked with cucumbers, carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, green chillies, roasted peanuts and sesame seeds in a hot, spicy, sweet and sour concoction. After it cooled, I placed them in Pyrex glass containers and stored them in the fridge.
Eating achar is additive; never seem to have enough of it after each mouthful! With the Chinese New Year in mind, it is a much-needed relief to counter the rich food we eat during the celebrations of this festival. But then, we have already started eating it! It is too irresistible!
Achar is the Hindi term used for all different kinds of pickle including mixed pickle.

The "peanut-man" selling freshly roasted peanuts on the promenade at sunset - Ajijic village - Lago de Chapala - Mexico
Pictured is a "China Town" hot dog from City Dogs, a new restaurant in downtown Wappingers Falls, New York, specializing in gourmet hot dogs.
The "China Town" is a foot-long teriyaki dog with toppings of quick kimchi, sweet shredded coconut, quail eggs and roasted peanuts.
I frequented this establishment for about a month while I visited family in Wappingers Falls, and I tried seven of their gourmet dogs, all of which were very good. This one, and the "Southern Tier" were my two favorites.
Current pricing of this menu item (as of January, 2016) is $6.50.
By the way, the ketchup in the photograph was not for the hot dog. It was for the french fries, not pictured.

Nasi lemak packed in a banana leave with a piece of fried chicken breast! It's a bit oily but so tasty!
Take away from Subang Jaya night market.
[ 341 / 365 ] I tried this mouth-watering Sichuan spicy chicken at Xi Yan in Hong Kong run by a local celebrity chef : Jacky Yu. I love the addition of century eggs and baked peanuts which gave extra textures to this classic chinese dish. I got a copy of his book and recreated this dish once I came back home from my trip. I was glad I could find all the ingredients here in Vancouver.

Pittsburgh Pirates branded peanuts. I'm curious to know - do the Pirates have a reputation for having great peanuts, or what? I live in Ohio - so usually when we have anything with a baseball team's logo on it, it's the Cleveland Indians. Why aren't these Cleveland Indians peanuts?
This picture was taken basically as I was playing around with close-ups using my digital camera.

Roasted Peanut Wagon - Marshall, #30 S. Locust St.
Valparaiso, Indiana
Date: Circa 1900
Source Type: Photograph
Publisher, Printer, Photographer: Wilfred G. Marshall
Postmark: Not Applicable
Collection: Steven R. Shook
Remark: This horse drawn peanut wagon was operated by G. G. Sherwood of Valparaiso, Indiana. The wagon was manufactured by C. Cretors & Company of Chicago, Illinois, a company established in 1885 and still in existence [circa 2011]. According to the C. Cretors & Company website, the wagon shown here was produced between 1900 and 1910; it was steam powered and could roast 12 pounds of peanuts. The steam was generated by burning white gasoline (naphtha) under a small boiler. The roaster included a small mechanical clown, the Tosty Rosty Man, that acted as a merchandiser for the machine (see lower left of photograph above). The sign posted on the building advertises Wilfred G. Marshall's photograph studio, which was located at 30 South Locust Street in Valparaiso. Wilfred G. Marshall appears in the 1900 Federal Census for Center Township, Porter County, Indiana. He was a student at Valparaiso University, aged 22 years and was born in Illinois in June 1877. G. G. Sherwood appears in the 1910 Federal Census for Center Township, Porter County, Indiana, as George Sherwood, aged 43, occupation of salesman-peanut roaster. George Sherwood was residing at 404 Chicago Street in Valparaiso in 1910.

the following newspaper item appeared in the June 22, 1905, issue of The Chesterton Tribune:
VALPARAISO NEWS NOTES.
Items of Interest Picked up a the County Seat.
Roy Pierce's automobile is said to be responsible for the wrecking of George Sherwood's $500 popcorn and peanut wagon. The accident occurred Friday night. Sherwood was on his way to College Hill, and when he reached Greenwich street he met Pierce. The horse took fright, and ran away, upsetting and dragging the roaster some distance. and breaking the machine beyond repair. We understand Pierce will be called upon to make good the damage, failing in which there will be a lawsuit.

This storefront was restored to its original condition and vintage for the filming of "We Are Marshall". Unfortunately, as of mid-2010, the store is not in business, though it is in a great location in downtown Huntington, WV.

Ebéd a hajón a Ha Long öbölben. A képet a barátnőm készítette, mivel én lelkesen falatoztam. :) A bal alsó sarokban a rákpáncél feltörésétől maszatos mancsaim láthatóak.

Lunch on the boat during our trip in Ha Long Bay. We had a great lunch there. There were crabs, clams, roasted peanuts, spring rolls, fried pork, vegetables, fishes, squids, etc. Photo taken by my girlfriend on our trip in January 2008 while I was stuffing my face with these great foods... :)

Thai Green Papaya Salad, Som Tum, spicy, dried shrimp, cherry tomatoes, thai lime, roasted peanuts, chilli padi, palm sugar, tamarind, long beans
Cravings struck, so I made this.
Not bad for a first try! The texture and consistency can be improved, though.
