The winters in Berlin are dark and grey. This year it was especially dark. Hardly sun - but lots of fog.

another sight in monochrome showing the two arms of river Spree and museums’ island, which is UNESCO worlde heritage, with Bode-Museum. New in Berlins Cityscapea are the amounts of construction cranes everywhere in the City. Can't get anywhere with out seeing them. I’m very much tempted to make a series of this new Berlin urban landscape.. Knowing, how long it takes in Berlin to get a construction finished, /see our Airport. LOL) we’ll live in this new landscape for quiet a long period of time!! 😉 wishing all a happy Saturday!

Germania, Berlino, Oberbaumbrucke, Primavera 2015

The Oberbaum Bridge (German: Oberbaumbrücke) is a double-deck bridge crossing Berlin's River Spree, considered one of the city's landmarks. There is a bridge here from 1732, originally it was a wooden one and then it was modified in the actual one after the 1879. It links Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, former boroughs that were divided by the Berlin Wall, and has become an important symbol of Berlin’s unity. The lower deck of the bridge carries a roadway, and the upper deck carries Berlin U-Bahn line U1. The bridge appears prominently in the 1998 film Run Lola Run.

Why not going on sightseeing tour in my home City? Nothing special, just a postcard - like frame showing the river Spree and a part of museum.island which is UNESCO world heritage, with the Berlin Cathedral "Berliner Dom" Happy weekend

The spectacular and controversial monumental building ensemble of the new Federal Chancellery was designed by the Berlin architects Axel Schultes and Charlotte Frank during the tenure of Chancellor Helmut Kohl. After the ground-breaking ceremony on February 4, 1997 and a construction period of almost four years, the building was occupied by the then Chancellor Gerhard Schröder on May 2, 2001, completing the move of the government to Berlin. The built-up area with helipad and Kanzlerpark is about 73.000 m².

With a height of 36 meters, the building exceeds Berlin's eaves height of 22 meters and is the world's largest government headquarters. It's about eight times the size of the White House in Washington, but it has other buildings.

I wish you a cool and happy weekend, dear friends! Thanks for your visit, about a comment and Fave I am happy 😊

I hardly leave the house - except for going to the office, some days a week. Sometimes I stop for a photo, like here with the lonely rower in the morning fog.

I am privileged with being allowed to ride along my beloved river Spree.

thankfully inspired by Mariola, another frame out of this series, and flipped! Now, since I learned from Mariolas abstract and artistic suggestion, I played around a little more and I guess, this is my new favourite, now!

Approximately 400 kilometres in length, the River Spree flows through the Saxony, Brandenburg and Berlin states of Germany before cutting into the Czech Republic. It is the river on which the original centre of Berlin was built. This shot, taken in the early evening in Spring, looks due West towards the Reichstag Building and Spreebogen government quarter.

The Reichstag Building was opened in 1894 and was responsible for housing what was termed as the Diet of the German Empire until 1933, when it was severely damaged after being set on fire.

After World War II, the building fell into disuse, and although made safe against the elements in the 1960s, was not fully restored until after German reunification on 3 October 1990. The refurbishment was led by architect Norman Foster and was completed in 1999 which included the glazed dome or 'Kuppel' seen today.

James Simon (17 September 1851 – 23 May 1932) was a German entrepreneur, philanthropist and patron of the arts during the Wilhelmine period. He donated most of his significant collections to the Berlin State Museums, including the famous Nefertiti bust.

Berlin (Germany)

(From my personal digital image archive, 2010)

The beautiful city of Berlin is endowed with a complex system of rivers, canals, and lagoons, with their corresponding bridges and pedestrian walkways.

In the photo, taken from the Monbijoubrücke (Monbijou Bridge), you can see the Spree River as it flows past the Bode Museum on Museum Island.

We can also see a couple of tourist boats (which usually have good beers) and in the background the iconic Berliner Fernsehturm (Television Tower), a legacy of the former German Democratic Republic.

The Spree River has a total length of 403 km.

This river rises in the Lusatian Mountains, near the border between Germany and the Czech Republic, and flows north through the German capital, where it joins the Havel River (a tributary of the Elbe River), its largest tributary.

In Berlin, it widens, forming a river port and winds through much of the city, providing the backdrop for several of its most iconic buildings. Between Cottbus and Lübben (Spreewald), it divides into a system of navigation canals that give rise to a wooded and marshy region.

Since German reunification began in the 1990s, the Spree has regained importance for Berlin.

This has increased the attractiveness of developing new developments along its course and the development of boat tours. (Source: Wikipedia)

VISTA DEL RIO SPREE, BERLIN, ALEMANIA, 2010

Seen here is the view following the River Spree east towards the Fernsehturm from the eastern terminus of the Spreebogen government quarter.

The Spree is the river upon which the city of Berlin was first built. The river flows through the Saxony, Brandenburg and Berlin states of Germany, and in the Ústí nad Labem region of the Czech Republic and is approximately 400 kilometres in length.

Museumsinsel is located on the northern part of the Spree Island in the historic heart of Berlin. It is one of the most visited sights of Germany's capital and one of the most important museum sites in Europe. Built from 1830 to 1930 by order of the Prussian Kings according to plans by five architects, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It consists of the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Bode-Museum and the Pergamonmuseum.

Friedrich Wilhelm IV explicitly wanted colonnades on Museuminsel, and Friedrich August Stüler submitted a blueprint for them in 1841. The colonnades on the south and east side of the Neues Museum were built between 1853 and 1860. Those on the banks of the Spree, seen here, were constructed between 1876 and 1878 based on updated plans by Johann Heinrich Strack and Georg Erbkam.

Berlin's iconic Fernsehturm, or TV tower in English, was constructed between 1965-69 and was intended as one of the tallest towers in Europe, second only to Moscow's own TV tower. It is seen clearly in the background.
