Male Willow Emerald at the site I found last year.

section of the river in Duden Park, Antalya, leading to the main Duden Falls, out of shot...but plenty of views of the falls in my Falling Water album.

River Cuckmere.

A newly emerged Hairy Dragonfly.

Kaptai Lake is the largest lake in Bangladesh. It is located in the Kaptai Upazila under Rangamati District of Chittagong Division. The lake was created as a result of building the Kaptai Dam on the Karnaphuli River, as part of the Karnaphuli Hydro-electric project.

A species of dragonfly I have always wanted to see, but for some reason I had always failed. A wonderful morning spent watching and photographing these with my son, Matt. It was also a new species for him. All that we saw were males so maybe another visit is due looking for females!!

My best effort identifies this damselfly as a Powdered Dancer in blue form. Still with the morning's dew on its back, it rests upon the bloom of an American Water Willow. Water Willow is a perennial which commonly colonizes along the edges of Ozark streams and is a host to many dragonflies, damselflies, bees and butterflies. If you would like to see the colonization of water willow along a stream and discover some of an Ozark stream's beautiful and amazing inhabitants, above and below the water, I would be honored if you took a look at my latest blog post here: www.gmichaellewis.com/blog/2015/6/life-of-an-ozark-stream

There is no hurry..we shall get there someday.

A peaceful scene along a lush riverbank

of the Nile with a vibrant landscape.

A small fishing canoe with two people adds a sense of scale and human presence to the vast natural setting.

The river acts as a strong leading line, guiding the viewer's eye toward the opposite bank and the small boat with two occupants. The horizon line sits roughly on the upper third of the image, adhering to the rule of thirds. A tall palm tree on the right provides a strong vertical element, balancing the horizontal expanse.

The primary subjects are the natural environment: the blue water, the dense, lush vegetation on the riverbank, and the prominent palm tree.

The photograph benefits from bright, natural daylight, resulting in high contrast and saturated colors. The vivid greens of the foliage and the deep blues of the water create a visually appealing contrast that emphasizes the tropical or subtropical environment.

The clear sky and calm water contribute to a serene and tranquil atmosphere, suggesting a peaceful moment in a natural, untouched setting.

Many thanks and appreciation as ever to all of you that take the time to comment or fave my images.

For all of you that were expecting more images from Singapore or Philippines, don't worry: there'll be more. But last Friday It was such a beautiful evening with golden light. I couldn't resist making this image from the riverfront of my hometown. Long exposure by using a 10 stop ND-filter.

Enjoy!

Mayfly on the riverbank.

A species I love to see most years.

Such a photogenic insect, seen here with a backdrop of Buttercups.

A grey heron perched on a branch near the water's edge. Tall reeds and branches frame the foreground, while the water and a rocky, arid background provide contrast. The bird appears to be either a Grey Heron or a Great Blue Heron, which are very similar species.

Herons often stand motionless as they scan for prey or wade with deliberate steps. This title highlights their hunting technique.

The image utilizes natural framing with the dense vegetation on the left and bottom guiding the viewer's eye towards the heron and the open water. The heron is positioned off-center, adhering roughly to the rule of thirds.

The scene appears to be well-lit, likely under bright daylight, creating strong highlights on the water and the rocky terrain in the background. The lighting highlights the textures of the reeds, the water ripples, and the bird's feathers.

The colors are vibrant, featuring deep greens from the reeds, blues from the water, and earthy browns/tans from the rocks and dry vegetation. The heron's grey-blue plumage stands out against the background.

The photograph evokes a serene, natural atmosphere, capturing a quiet moment of wildlife in its habitat. The bird's still posture and focus on the water give the impression of a watchman guarding the riverbank.

The Morning When the Boat Slept

In the calm of morning, while the northern wind whispers through the willows, an old boat sleeps in the water.

It doesn’t sink — it rests. The wood breathes, drinking in the damp air, keeping memories alive of early fishing trips and quiet dawns.

Here in Karlovac, along the Kupa River, tradition still lingers — the wisdom that both wood and the human heart need to submerge sometimes, to stay whole.

Jutro kada je čamac spavao

U miru jutra, dok sjeverac tiho prolazi kroz vrbe, stari čamac spava u vodi.

Two fishermen actively rowing in a small rowboat on the Nile River, with a background of lush reeds and several white egrets. The water reflects the sky and the surrounding greenery, creating a shimmering effect.

The boat is simple and wooden, and the men are dressed in casual clothing. The presence of several white egrets on the water and along the shoreline adds to the natural setting.

The boat is positioned slightly off-center, following the "rule of thirds," which draws the eye across the scene. The warm, golden light suggests a specific time of day, creating long shadows and highlighting the textures of the water and the foliage.

The image's focus is sharp on the boat and its occupants, while the background is slightly softer, giving a sense of depth. The image has a warm, natural feel, taken in the early morning due to the golden light.

Karnaphuli River, major watercourse of the Chittagong region, Bangladesh. Rising in the Mizo Hills of Mizoram state, northeastern India, it flows about 170 miles (270 km) south and southwest through the southeastern arm of Bangladesh to empty into the Bay of Bengal, 12 miles (19 km) below the city of Chittagong. In the Chittagong Hill Tracts area it is known as the Kynsa Khyoung. The river is navigable by steamer to Rangamati and is extensively used for transporting cotton and forest products. The river’s Karnaphuli hydroelectric project provides power for tea-, jute-, tobacco-, and cotton-processing industries; the reservoir irrigates a vast agricultural area.

Row your boat gently

Life is not a race

Row with people, not against, ahead or behind them.

Just go with the flow of life.

Gently down the stream, even though you are working hard and fast in life, you should try not to miss the beautiful and wonderful moments.

Row your boat with love and peace

A reminder to embrace life’s journey with joy and tranquility, recognizing that existence is temporary and should be appreciated in the moment.

Baby moorhen, first ever foray into the wide world

Fishing boat with fishermen's equipment on the river bank in the morning at Karnafuli river (Kaptai). When fishermen fish in the fog-covered river in the winter morning, an unearthly environment is created. It's like a heavenly morning.

The name of the traditional river of ancient Chittagong is Karnafuli. This river is an immortal witness of thousands of years of history. Starting from the eastern hills, this river has merged with the Bay of Bengal on the wide western side.

The scenery of the two banks of Karnafuli is amazing. Everyone's eyes will be closed. The only hydropower plant in Bangladesh has been built on Karnafuli.

Chittagong, the holy land of Bar Auliya and the green land of natural beauty, has developed on the banks of Karnafuli. One of the main reasons for this beauty of Chittagong is Karnafuli. The port built on the banks of this river is economically important. Chittagong port is very old. The river is losing its romance. The river is only being attacked because of the profiteering people.

Can you guess in which direction river Neretva flows?

Silence Adrift on the Korana

There is something timeless in this stillness — a quiet reminder that the river carries not only water, but stories, memories, and moments we pass by too quickly.

Crno-bijela fotografija sve to joÅĄ bolje otkriva — svjetlo, teksture, kontrasteâ€Ļ i onu tiÅĄinu koju moÅžeÅĄ gotovo čuti.

The life of the Chatal workers is limited to the boundaries of the Chatal. They have no separate life, no dreams. Their lives are spent working hard all day. No adequate rest, no recreation. To the Chatal owner they are much like maids. After working so hard for a low wage, they can't put a smile on anyone's face in their family, so they are always mentally depressed & upset. This is how it is passed down through the generations.

Water logging is a curse for any city or country. The people of Chittagong want to get rid of this curse. The city experiences waterlogging during the rainy season every year.Unclean drainage is the main cause of this waterlogging.Due to this waterlogging, human life becomes very narrow. It's difficult to identify which is drain and which is road. The biggest problem is with sick patients.Unable to get an ambulance due to waterlogging, the boy takes his father to the hospital in the rain on a stretcher by van.

A tranquil winter morning unfolds over the Karnaphuli River in Kaptai. As the first light pierces through the heavy fog, the hills of Rangamati emerge like shadows, mirrored perfectly in the calm, glass-like water. This is the hour when the river feels its most ancient and untouched.

Karnaphuli or Khawthlangtuipui is the largest and most important river in Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts. It is a 667-metre (2,188 ft) wide river in the south-eastern part of Bangladesh. Originating from the Saithah village of Mamit district in Mizoram, India, it flows 270 kilometres (170 mi) southwest through Chattogram Hill Tracts and Chattogram into the Bay of Bengal. Before the Padma, it was the fastest flowing river in Bangladesh. It is said to "represent the drainage system of the whole south-western part of Mizoram.Principal tributaries include the Kawrpui River or Thega River, Tuichawng River and Phairuang River. A large hydroelectric power plant using Karnaphuli river was built in the Kaptai region during the 1960s. The mouth of the river hosts the Port of Chattogram, the largest and busiest seaport of Bangladesh.

Last week there was high tide in the river IJssel and a lot of the floodplains were inundated. Great conditions for some landscape photography. I spotted this lone tree close to the shoreline. Finding a composition was not that hard: Placing the tripod in the water and aligning the tree and the setting sun. Waiting for the sun to touch the horizon, I achieved this dramatic scene.

Enjoy!
