This is a thirty second exposure which on one hand has given the waters surface a polished sheen and on the other, a light breeze has moved the top of the trees in the right hand corner causing a blur. I suppose I could edit that out but not sure that its really worth it?

Unfortunately not one of the lucky survivors ( Scraped in February 1991 at Old Oak Common Depot ) Class 50 50005 "Collingwood" works an up service across Cockwood Harbour during the evening of April 9th 1987.

From a few weekends ago on a nice circular walk around Brampford Speke. I took this shot shortly before we heard lots of yelling coming from further ahead. After a few moments we saw two swans swimming in our direction (a pity that I missed them, would have been a nice addition to this shot!). The swans were chased by a swimming dog and the dog owner was trying his best to convince the dog to come back out of the water but doggy had the hunt on his mind. This went on in both directions for a long time - we even had a nice picnic at the river bend in the background of the photo and watched the chase while munching away. The dog never really caught up with the two swans and at some point later on our hike we saw the owner with the dog back on the lead so I guess it eventually came to its senses. It reminded me of our first dog – a golden retriever – who was impossible to control when he switched from docile to wolf mode. Never caught anything though ;-)

The City of Exeter is a very interesting place indeed and a place that I really enjoy visiting, I was lucky enough once more this year to pay it a visit for a couple of days, this shot taken by the tranquil River Exe on the Exeter Quay.

Last Saturday we pulled our hiking guides from the bookshelf and looked at what short walks we could do with our boys. We found a 5k walk starting from the wee village Brampford Speke, hidden in the countryside at the river Exe. The circular walk was indeed lovely following the river a few times, lots of wildlife and interesting plants to behold. Brampford Speke is also really intriguing with its thatched-roofed cottages. We were really impressed about how our 3 y old was marching on for most of the 5k!

The photo shows the view across the river Exe towards the church of Brampford Speke while the path follows a disused train track towards Stoke Canon - some great place names in that part of Devon :-)

The River Exe in spate at Exeter Quay on Saturday moring after heavy rain late last week. The flow was so strong that the Butts Ferry, one of only five 'floating bridges' in the country, got washed away downstream and apparently ended up in Topsham! Devon, England.

On a beautifully clear summers evening EWS 67004 races across Cockwood harbour in charge of it's parcels train on August 20th 2002.

I took this photo slightly out of focus in the hope it may look like a painting. Basically I was messing around with my Canon DSLR camera. Beaulieu River & Beaulieu Village on a beautiful winters day in the New Forest National Park, Hampshire in England,

37675 "William Cookworthy" crosses Cockwood Harbour and heads towards Exeter in charge of it's balast train on September 24th 1987.

From my trip to Tiverton last Saturday. The weather was absolutely fantastic and I spent quite some time strolling along the river. I planned on taking some longish exposures at that part of the river which cascades down a few little steps. The light was unfortunately pretty harsh (not complaining here, enjoyed getting a bit of vitamin D) so there is hardly any colour in the sky. I do however like that perspective with the tree and colourful buildings in the background with the little falls in the front.

50019 'Ramillies' heads a late afternoon service across Cockwood Harbour on a very clear April 9th 1987.

When I arrived this morning everything was white with frost but by the time the sun appeared the frost quickly melted (not helped by having to wait for some asbo swans who weren't happy with ne beibg there to disappear), a brief flurry of snow passed over leaving this dramatic sky.

My 1st visit to this pretty location that definitely won't be my last

With the sun rapidly sinking large logo 50003 'Temeraire' Crosses Cockwood Harbour on April 21st 1987.

50003 quite rare in my collection but the small boat below named 'Riptide II' must have been one of the most photographed of it's era. Practically every photographer that visited Cockwood Harbour during those years and there were many, will have it included in their images.
