Gran Turismo 6

Springtime hijinks.

The day of the big GTR-RL race is finally here. Spectators from around the galaxy are in attendance to witness this historic contest. Both teams have have done everything they can to ensure victory. Who will come out on top?

This was my entry for Steel City LUG's build challenge for the first quarter of 2020. The challenge, called "Final Lap" was to build a 20 stud wide section of racing area across a 32 stud baseplate to be interconnected with other entries.

Albeit "Drysllwyn Castle" rather than "Pendennis Castle" in this particular shot... Famous A3 Pacific 60103 "Flying Scotsman" visits Didcot Railway Centre for the "Rivals Reunited" event.

Two wolf brothers fighting for dominance

Malcolm Merlyn and Green Arrow

I was working on a build for these two today, but it just wasn’t coming out how I envisioned it—although it’s not terrible enough to be rejected—so it’s going into the “look into later” file. Still, I made some slight adjustments to Merlyn and Arrow that I thought were worth showing off now.

These two ruffs showing their strength. They have some fascinating rituals at breeding time. Wonderful looking birds!

This is a photo from my archives, taken almost a year ago. On 14 July 2014, it was another hot day, and my computer room became unbearably uncomfortable. That meant only one thing - I would have to drive around in my car for some air-conditioning. Spent about four hours cruising the backroads SW of the city, not seeing a whole lot. Went as far as Brown-Lowery Provincial Park, with the intention of doing just a very short walk into the forest. Didn't get that far, though, as there were things to photograph around the edge of the tiny parking lot and just part way along the path that leads to the two short boardwalks.

The first thing I saw and heard was a Tennessee Warbler and when I reached it, discovered that there were now several young ones, too. Talk about friendly little birds - not sure that they didn't think I was going to feed them. Interesting to see birds that acted rather like the Black-capped Chickadees - just as fast-moving, too, making it difficult to get even a half-decent photo.

A few steps further and I came across several of these Purple Avens flowers. This is as far as the Purple Avens flower opens. An unusual flower and really, quite beautiful. This one has straightened up and is just beginning to go to seed. Love it when they start sprouting unruly seed hairs : )

"Geum rivale, the water avens, is a flowering plant of the family Rosaceae. Other names for the plant are nodding avens, drooping avens, cure-all, water flower and indian chocolate. It is native to much of Europe, with the exception of Mediterranean areas, as well as some parts of Central Asia and North America. In North America, it is known as purple avens. It grows in bogs and damp meadows, and produces nodding red flowers from May to September." From Wikipedia.

Ruff's Mating Season - these two have to clear up something.. (in a violence free way!)

Here are some more props from the set we stumbled across on Saturday.

I think I pretty much squealed with delight when we found this mangle behind a bunch of other stuff piled up in one of the archways at The Citadel. Probably the best angle I could get of the mangle... That rhymed. :o)

Photos of the new DC Rivals hyper-coaster at Warner Bros. Movie World, Gold Coast. The rollercoaster manufactured by Mack Rides in Germany, is 202ft high, reaches 115kph, and is 4,593ft in length. This photo is of the train on the final run of airtime hills.

mitri Shostakovich, the other major soviet composer of the 20th century and allegedly a bitter rival, once wrote Prokofiev some of the most generous lines that a fellow artist can write: ¨I wish you at least another hundred years to live and create. Listening to such works as your Seventh Symphony makes it much easier and more joyful to live.” It was a nice discovery to find the statue of Prokofiev wearing a hat in the heart of Moscow, standing proud and somewhat defiant to the surrounding tourist traps. He wrote a hymn to Stalin, so the appreciation of his music requires the effort of detaching it from his politics in the same way that appreciating a summer walk around Moscow in year 2023 requires the effort of detaching the city’s long and rich history from the terrible deeds of its current KGB overlord and thuggish Czar. It’s not an exercise of complicity by silence (or aloofness) that is required, but perhaps arriving to a basic realization: What keeps Putin’s kleptocracy alive is not really the acquiescence and support of (all) Russians, it’s mostly fear. Well financed and carefully manufactured terror.

Rivality is quite common in the rutting season, male moufflons fight quite often...

Egg is mine.
