My ordinary days at home series.

There isn't much extraordinary about my days at home except I get to do what I like; be around my family, work with folks I like very much like my brother Ricky; Sergei Scot and a couple of additional hands whose work ethics seems to be a thing of the past. In other words, I like what I do; I like my way of life! Today I was reading our local newspaper when I came upon something catching my attention; it reads: Wanted: Several hard working individuals willing to do work a minimum of 40 hours plus about 10 to 20 extra hours per week. Another local add reads: Wanted, hard working individuals not afraid to do hard physical labor, willing to put in at least 40 hours per week. I find myself thinking after reading many similar advertisements today; what has happened to work ethics? How did we get here; in a very small community where hard work was the norm? What sort of generation did we rise? Is this our future? It's made me think; prompting me to post a series which not long ago was considered ordinary.

People say I'm just a rough boy

I ain't no good for you girl

It's a dead end street,

Tryin' to love me yeah, I'll wreck your world

I can see why they're all talkin'

Lookin' back at my past

I've got a bad name, but a man can change

I'm livin' proof of that

Well (no pun intended) as one would realize if familiar with the story, you learn something new every day.

I used to repeat "Tikki Tikki Tembo . . . " often when my girls were little, so must have read the book to them. To refresh my memory about the story line, I googled it and came up with the most horrible realization about the false myths and culturally insensitive insinuations . . . oops . . . "you learn something new every day" . . . I can't believe I wouldn't have picked up on this way back then . . .

This being said, there is no correlation between my choice of fabric or calligraphy above! Just happened to have these FUN designs in my stash! And my daughter's boyfriend's name is "Ricky" so my husband penned his name in an "Asian" style!

The 'twins' arrived today! Ricky was one of the last members of the mid 60's Barbie 'friends & family' I had to get, so why not get two? One of them came with the box, stand and two of my favourite Ricky outfits; - The very cute 'Little Leaguer' that you see one of the Rickys wearing, jumping to catch that ball, (LOVE that very cute baseball cap and mitt!) and 'Sunday Suit' (that I'll photograph later as I'm washing the shirt at the moment.) They can't wait to play with Skipper and Skooter!

Ricky : "My tractor's here and I'm ready to ride!"

Me : "Where did that tractor come from??!"

Ricky : "Did you see those farmer guys at the fair?? They had lots tractors and they had signs on them that said 0% interest and that you could take years to pay.."

Me : "uhhhhh, yeah. I saw those guys..."

Ricky : "And remember when you went to go pee and left me with Dad..? Well, Dad was looking at his phone and not paying attention, so went I over and bought this tractor! We have 6 years to pay it off. I'm figuring I'll have a job by then... maybe.."
