I made a trip yesterday to Block Island, which was of course more challenging than usual due to Covid concerns. Block Island is about 12 miles off the coast of Rhode Island. I’d never been there off season before. A surprising number of people were on the ferry, but we were all of course wearing masks and “distancing” as required. I rented a bike and went out to Mohegan Bluffs, which are probably the most impressive cliffs you can find anywhere in New England. Anyway, New Shoreham, the town which technically covers the whole of Block Island, has a population of about 1100 inhabitants, they market themselves as the “smallest town in the smallest state”.
There are a surprising number of cars for such a small island. I saw a bumper sticker that read “Block Island, social distancing since 1651” :)
If you zoom in, you can see the stairs going down to the beach.
You can also see South East Lighthouse from 1875, more about that coming.
The Rhode Island azaleas in are in full bloom! Enjoy!

“Textured Gear” is the creation of Rob Lorenson, an artist and educator based in Fall River, Massachusetts. His studio is housed in a massive warehouse, sharing space with Concentric Fabrications, a custom metal company that Lorenson co-owns. Since settling in Massachusetts in 1999, Lorenson has crafted hundreds of large, stainless steel sculptures, most of them incorporating circular shapes.
