Well, I knew Leica M2 and M6 are similar but I wasn't aware they are of nearly identical design. The M2 seems sturdier, its vulcanite feels better and its rewinder knob looks less prone to damage. Between the two of them the M2 is clearly the more essential "M".
Top of camera, rangefinder removed. From the right, we see the winder mechanism, winder rack with it's hold-down strap, rangefinder actuator, and rewinder shaft.
Open revealing the slot to put the VHS Tape into it.
Then one presses it down to close it. It rewinds the tape .
The yellow lights on the front light up. When done rewinding,
it pops back up ....

I remember when VHS Tapes got started .
It was a great time !
Before that, we were limited to what was on TV. And had no control of the schedule of anything we watched.
If someone was lucky their family had Cable TV.
Which gave us a lot more variety. But we were still bound to
the scheduling of the program times to be able to watch them.
But VHS Tapes gave us the ability to rent and then eventually own copies of movies and series to watch when ever we wanted to !
A vast improvement at the time.
Of course later generations of people don't understand that. With the just about everything on demand streaming platforms 24/7 availability.
So why would we need a VHS Tape Rewinder when we can just rewind the tape with the Video Cassette Recorder or VCR ? Well because rewinding the VHS tapes are the hardest work for the VCR motor. So if one wants their VCR motor to last as long as possible. They need to only play the VHS tapes in the VCR. And rewind them with a separate Rewinder .
And no I am not watching tons of movies on VHS tapes.
But I still rewind them on a rewinder. Because all my VCRs are
also used antiques from then as well. I don't know how much life is left in the VCR motors .

Eject is a tiny homage to the G1 cassette-bot character that is made by third-party toymaker PerfectEffect.
He has many different options with his accessories and looks great wielding his tiny swords.
His official name is PE-05 Rewinder.

Back at the rewinder (left) side remove this last ring. Turn ccw.
Not the easiest one as this ring has only 1 slit. I was lucky that the ring came off quite easy otherwise i would have to use another tool then this "standard" spanner.
The more obvious tools would have been an adapted small hook spanner or something similar to the Rolleiflex T tool (see insert) 04474.001 which is used for thats flashcontact ring.
Don't use an ordinary screwdriver as that would most probably damage ring and/or topcover.

8mm Video/Data Cartridge Tape Spool Winder Tool/Pen

An ordinary Jetstream ballpoint pen can become a compact, dual-use combination emergency tape rewinder & pen which is a lightweight and portable addition to any camera bag. Cut away enough tip to allow the existing pen ridges deep enough into the spool socket to engage it.
To minimize mangling the exposed tape, open the shutter before winding the tape, push back the little Shutter Release tab, then lift and hold open the shutter while winding the loose tape back onto the spool. Minimize wrinkling the tape. Once the tape is flat against the cassette, release the shutter, it will spring closed, and lock. Do not over-tighten.
When the tape is back to normal position, one can insert it back into the camera/drive to fast-forward to the end, then rewind completely, to tension the tape correctly on the reels. Then play the mangled section a few times. Drawing the mangled portion over the spinning read head then through the pinch roller will help flatten out the kinks, but not remove them completely. The great thing about tape is one can always roll it over a read head and no matter how badly it's been mangled, you will be able to retrieve SOME information. Unlike my direct to DVD cameras.
It could take a long time, but it is possible to wind the entire tape with the adapted pen. Disengage the spool ratchet, compressing the Spool Release by inserting an object and squeezing it toward the nearest edge.

Not that you can see it that well from this angle, but this is my new hair.
It had been quite a while since I had a trim; I think the stylist said she took off maybe an inch.
She also re-touched my bangs. They're angled off to the left, like they were last time. And angled the hair around my face just a smidge to frame my face.
I need to get a frontal portrait for you to see it the way it really is.
I'm really hoping to grow it long enough to cut out the highlighted bits, and then grow it again to donate to locks of love.
...though I don't know if I'm going to have the patience for that.
I have been wanting to cut it.
Long hair is such a pain.
It gets caught in the seatbelt rewinder thing. It gets caught between my purse and my shoulder.
...but it doesn't go spastic and get all kinds of staticky like it does when I have short hair.
...and it has the added benefit of me being able to do a lot more with it.
...and there is the possibility of dying it.
The stylist today told me about something called a "shine" which is a dye but doesn't suck out your natural color. I could do the dark red that I've been wanting to try. They're having a special on color treatments....
Who knows?

Everything removed at the winder side of the Focasport. Next we go back to the rewinder side.

Next remove the Rewinder Knob on the left side of the camera.
Keep the spooler key inside fixed with a metal rod (see red arrow). I wound some papertape around the rod to diminish the chance of scratches.
Turn the Rewind Knob counterclockwise.
Left to right: film advance and cocking lever, with film counter dial, shutter release, Gossen light meter, accessory shoe and finally the film rewinder and film reminder dial.
The door is supposed to pop open when you raise the rewinder knob to it's full extension, but mine still hangs up. I thought I had it fixed, but it stuck again as I was taking the photos. I rapped it on the back with my hand, and eventually it came open. But then the glue on the film canister retainer spring plate broke loose, so I'll have to glue that back in.

With this last ring removed the Topcover can be taken off the body. While you do that also hold the shutter release button otherwise it might fall off and maybe hit the rangefinder mirror.

You can't get to the top screws with the winder and rewinder in place, and besides, they also block you fom taking the top off anyway.
The rewinder knob on the left contains the film reminder dial (pretty much useless with todays film speeds), and the winder lever on the right contains the frame counter.

After placing the indicator dial in the rewinder knob, the small tab on the retaining ring must sit in the slot on the dial.
Place a screwdriver in the slot fork of the rewinder shaft, and give the rewinder a counter-clockwise twist with your other hand. You might want to hold the camera upside down while doing this, as the rewinder tends to just come apart upon removal.

These are the blades that cut paper so they can be rolled into reels.
I used a flash to fill in the yellow rail and a little of the backs of the blades. The rest of the light was supplied by the florescent lights behind the paper.
This is the way it really looks in real life. The combonation of daylight and the florescents give the paper a really cool blueish/green hue.
