The Secondary school at Buttershaw has had a number of name changes since its opening in 1956.

In 1956 it opened as Buttershaw Secondary School , since then it has been Buttershaw Comprehensive, Buttershaw Upper School and Buttershaw High School. Currently it enjoys the name of Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College.

The original 1956 buildings were extended in the early 1960. Further building work continued during the 70’s 80’ and 90’s.

In 2008 the new building was opened and the old building demolished.

On November 29, 2012, registered participants in the new JaxSpots Student Rewards program were invited to attend the first JaxSpots VIP (Very Important Party!) on the 5th floor of Stadium Tower. In addition to great food donated by Classic on Noble and music donated by AVE (Audio Visual Experience), the students were entered in drawings for great prizes that included an HDTV, an iPad mini, several iPad Nanos and Shuffles, gift cards and JSU apparel. There were several 'Gold' parking passes given away, as well. The JaxSpots program is the university's effort to reward students for campus engagement and to encourage community. JaxSpots is powered by SpotOn. DJ Cocky puts a little "chicken scratch" on it.

Great job getting Mitch here Jill, and thanks for choosing to train with us!

A rare rainy day in southern California is often its own treasure, but keep your eyes skyward and you might catch one of these! (And, no, the irony of spotting a real rainbow in Hillcrest isn't lost on me.)

The Cenotaph was constructed as a memorial to those who died in World War I (1914 - 1919), later to include those who perished during the Second World War (1939 - 1945). The memorial was designed by the well-known architect, Denis Santry of Swan and MacLaren. The foundation stone was laid on 15 November 1920 by the Governor of the Straits Settlements, Sir Laurence Nunns Guillemard. It was unveiled on 31 March 1922 by the Prince of Wales (later Duke of Windsor and King Edward VIII) during his tour of Malaya, India, Australia and New Zealand. He was accompanied by young Mountbatten later the Earl of Burma who landed in Singapore in September 1945 as Supreme Commander, South-east Asia Command, to receive the surrender of the Japanese at City Hall almost directly opposite the Cenotaph.

The cleaning lady found all these all over my desk, and put them into a shoebox. This is only about 1/4 of the ones awaiting input/disposition.

The hike starting from the Berthoud Pass Trailhead rewards you with sweeping mountain views. You actually just need to get out of the car form the parking lot and you can already see a lot. But to see more, take a hike up the path. It's worth it.

More photos & details about my Berthoud hike can be found on my blog www.travelswithkim.com.

The day started with a most excellent stretch of single track and ended with a difficult run.

Honestly, that was satisfying enough. But when Scott and Annie pointed to the spectacular lighting of the Palouse as the sun was drawing to the western horizon I too grabbed a camera and took my chances.

The Palouse is always pretty, but in the fading light of day, it can be spectacular.
