In the preceding verses, we’ve seen Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob repeatedly fail to meet God’s expectations. Joseph however, is a refreshing change. When tempted to sin, Joseph responds, “How can I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” No matter how difficult his situation, Joseph remains faithful to God. God wants the same from Christians today. Thus, we must abide by God’s will and as seen with Joseph, we will certainly prosper as a result.

They say that pumping iron is good for you. There are so many health benefits associated with exercise, in particular weight-bearing forms of exercise. As we age, women especially, lose bone density and this can lead to serious health and quality of life issues. It simply isn’t enough to pop multi-vitamins and minerals in order to stay healthy. If we start a weights regime, no matter our age or fitness level, the rewards we reap will affect other aspects of our lives. I mean, we can improve muscle tone and ward off muscle loss as we age; our circulation improves – that’s right, no more cold hands and feet; keeps arthritis in check – yes, we need to move about to ease arthritis pain; we improve our balance and stability – and that beats falling over, doesn’t it? And a little known health benefit is “distraction” – that’s right, watching someone else pump iron can distract one from the day’s impending dental appointment. Thank you so much to my model for proving such an entertaining distraction for me today – you were great Darls, the image came up a treat. And girls (you know who you are) you know I can’t reveal my model’s details...lol!

Started the day with a Dr. appt. to go over lab tests from earlier. Turns out that some blood test was high due to me trying to be healthy and eating fresh fruit. Sodium level was low from cutting back on salt. So bottom line is the Dr. told me to back off on fresh fruit, and eat more salty stuff, which goes against everything I have heard about healthy lifestyle!
Also lost a few more pounds so figured I deserved some of my wife's wonderful lemon merangue pie left from father's day. Dharma is watching "Deadliset Catch" on TV, one of her favs.

One of my fears when moving here was that it would be too hot in the summers for hiking so I was pleased to find that with a few tweaks to my hiking clothes (and several more water bottles) I could hike in the early mornings, if not without breaking a sweat, at least with relative ease. The hard part is not the heat but the early rising required to avoid the worst of it, as it is no easier to get up before sunrise here than in Oregon.
On this morning in early August I hiked a trail very close to one of my favorites that I had only partially hiked before, knowing it was much wider and allowed more physical separation in these pandemic times, and was rewarded with my first badger sighting. The sun wasn't up yet and I hadn't gotten my telephoto lens out so I watched from afar as it ran its hands through its fur, grooming itself like the muskrats and beavers and nutria I had watched so many times before. Grooming completed it waddled, and I mean waddled, off into the brush.
Further on this young Harris's hawk came flying up, a mammal clutched in its talons, landing amidst a battered old beauty as the first hint of light fell upon the saguaro. Knowing it was offering to share its breakfast, I said thanks just the same but I had breakfast bars in my pack in case I felt peckish. Somewhere nearby, out of sight but not of earshot, its family was raising up two fledglings from the summer batch. Successfully so, I got to spend a few minutes this Thanksgiving with them all.
Oh this desert! Every sunrise, every sunset, every step along the path is a treasure.

For crossing the Arctic Circle southbound on the Hurtigruten, we were rewarded with a free teaspoon of cod liver oil (from the man on the right) followed by a teaspoon of cloudberry liqueur to take away the taste! We also got to keep the commemorative spoons.
