The Radzyny Reservoir is a retention reservoir on the Sama River, built in 1998-2000 by separating the Sama River valley with an earth dam. It is a cascade tank

The first (main) dam in the village of Myszkowo, 385 m long, forms the main reservoir with an area of 80 ha and a depth of max. 3.1 m. The second dam in the village of Radzyny creates a much smaller and shallower reservoir (29.0 ha). The total capacity of both reservoirs is 2.88 million m3.

Zalew Radzyny to zbiornik retencyjny na rzece Samie, zbudowany w latach 1998-2000 poprzez przegrodzenie zaporą ziemną doliny rzeki Samy. Jest to zbiornik kaskadowy

Pierwsza (główna) zapora we wsi Myszkowo o długości 385 m tworzy główny zbiornik o powierzchni 80 ha i głębokości max. 3,1 m. Druga zapora we wsi Radzyny tworzy zbiornik znacznie mniejszy i płytszy (29,0 ha). Całkowita pojemność obu zbiorników wynosi 2,88 mln m3.

Note the retention of the American Wigeon head pattern. The Eurasian has a beautiful red-orange head with a golden fore-crown. The neck and auriculars do not differ in color than the superciliary and hind-neck as in the American. This hybrid holds the American pattern, but with strong Eurasian coloring throughout the head. The other most obvious quality on this bird is the gray flanks unlike the American Wigeon which have rufous flanks. Thus, the combination of American head pattern with reddish hints and the gray flanks are enough to confidently call this bird an American x Eurasian Hybrid.

Caught this pair on an awful heavily clouded day .

Nyskie Lake (Nysa Reservoir) is a retention reservoir on Nysa Kłodzka River built in 1971.

A concrete and earth dam over 5 km long and up to 20 m high accumulated the waters of Nysa Kłodzka river creating a lake with an area 2077 ha and a total capacity of 123.44 million m³.

In the front dam, next to the bleeding structure and the dam weir, there is a power plant. A modern fish pass has also been made available for continuous monitoring. The reservoir is of great importance for flood protection and water level regulation for navigation on the Odra River.

These photos of the Great Egret will be My last for this particular individual. Today, I watched it as it took flight and left the area,in a Southerly direction. It was later seen flying over the Tantramar Marsh and onto the Chignecto Peninsula of mainland Nova Scotia. Hopefully it has taken flight to migrate to warmer climes.. It was fun watching this bird over these past few weeks.

The view of the University of Colorado Boulder campus near sunrise as a winter storm clears off. The campus is arguably on of the most beautiful in the world, with the backdrop of the Flatirons (rock formations made up of the Fountain formation, conglomerate sandstone) and lovely campus buildings built in the style of “Tuscan Vernacular Revival” with native flagstone and red tile roofs.

CU has traditionally had difficulty holding on to some of its most talented faculty who have been lured away by higher salaries and perks from more prestigious universities. However for some, this backdrop has kept them from leaving despite lower pay. We once joked that this is the “$17,000 view” based on the pay raise one colleague turned down to stay in Boulder (this amount would be $53,000 now with inflation adjustment). I’m fairly certain that the mountain biking opportunities have kept another colleague from leaving despite lucrative offers elsewhere.

Ths the last bird that I photographed in 2022. I captured this image of a bird that should really be enjoying warmer climes down south. Instead it is surviving quite well in Sackville, New Brunswick.

-----------------------

I have been at this location twice, and every time, after long minutes of the female going back and forth to the perch, the male came and chased her away, as if to declare the end of the recreation. He only stayed a few seconds.

My favorite way to enjoy My bird photography is to quietly observe a bird while it goes about its business. This Great Egret was no exception.

When I arrived at this location, the target bird was resting in a location just out of view. I set up My chair and, dressed in camo, I took up a location next to some trees.

I was waiting for quite a while, when the Egret arrived, flying a short distance to the sheltered brook, where it proceeded to feed. After a short stroll around in the water, feeding on the many small fish, it exited onto the snow covered bank and to an area, just out of sight to rest.

This activity repeated itself, several periods of rest, feed, rest, etc. It was awesome to watch and observe this amazing bird that really should be spending its time in a much warmer climate.

When the bird was safely out of sight, I packed up My things and quietly left the location, glad to soon feel the warmth of My cars heater, permeating My frozen limbs.

The Great Egret looks in very good health. It was feeding well and it's plumage is immaculate. I hope this bird survives the coming weeks and makes it to spring.

A retention pond in the background. This is the site of an old land fill (tip or dump in other countries). A mountain of trash which is covered over with dirt and grassed. I believe the pond is to retain run-off water which may contain pollutants. I have no desire to "trespass".

Taken with a Voigtlander 50mm f/1.0 Nokton in M mount. Image taken at f/1.0, lots of chromatic aberration with this lens wide open.

Shoot without tripod.

Prise de vue à main levée!

There is a small retention pond, in a large, big city apartment complex, that for some reason green herons have chosen as their summer home for at least three years. Many young have been raised here, right by a parking lot, and as the crow flies, about half a mile from a major interstate exchange. The area is near several small ponds and one reservoir, so that is probably part of the attraction. Over the next several days I may post several photos of these herons--please don't feel the need to comment on them all.

The Racibórz Dolny retention reservoir will be a flood protection reservoir in the Odra River valley. Its area will amount to 2626 ha and capacity will be 170 million m³. After the depletion of mineral deposits, the capacity will increase to 320 million m³. The investment is to be ready in 2020.

The front dam of the reservoir is 4 km long, left-bank - 9.6 km, and right-bank - 8.8 km. The height of the earth dams will reach even 10 m. The reservoir is designed as dry, which means that it will be filled only in the event of floods, in order to protection lower areas and reduce the flood wave. However, there are plans for it to be transformed into a wet reservoir in the future. Then, the facility's capabilities will increase, as as a reservoir it will be able to prevent drought and improve the navigability of the Odra River in its lower reaches.

Saw this groundhog coming out of its den and posing for me.

I took a walk around the neighborhood to see if there things that I had missed recently. Sometimes, I get too set in my ways that I miss some obvious photographic opportunities !

Here is some wildlife that I often miss because I'm too much in a hurry that I miss the Trees in the Forest.

So much for philosophy ! I'm certainly not a philosopher !

Here's a lone Bird searching for it's Breakfast near one of the many Retention Ponds that Florida is known for !

With three Bird Books, I still cannot positively identify this Bird !

I think it might br either a Heron or a Egret, however someone else commented that it was a Limpkin. I'm Confused !

The consensuses, is that the Bird is a Limpkin !

Both Gerald Wayne Prout and Buckeye have identified the Bird as a Limpkin !

This bird is not hurt. The Killdeer display this way to feign injury in order to lure a potential predator away from its nest.

At one point there were 5 or 6 Swans in this retention pond. Over the course of time all but one of the swans have left, the swan that has remained has a happy existence, but has not mate at this point. However, she is not completely alone as these 2 ducks are the only waterfowl that she lets share her ponds with her. We even saw the swan chase away a couple of storks the other day.
