Happy Orthodox Christmas, dear brothers and sisters!..Znamensky temple in the city of Krasnogorsk, Moscow region..The Gubaylovo Wasteland, where the Znamensky Church was later built, is first mentioned as part of the territory of the Goretov camp of the Moscow district in the early 17th century. The temple was built in 1683 in honor of Holy Virgin. .The revived Church of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos in Krasnogorsk was consecrated on April 29, 2001. A large community of believers of all ages was formed at the Znamensky Church. The community of the temple provides social assistance to orphans, large families, prisoners and others in need.

Immediately after the resumption of worship in the Church of the Sign, the most important work of the present and the future began, work with the younger generation on moral, artistic and aesthetic education. Open Sunday School. In 1994, at its base, together with the administration of the Krasnogorsk district, the municipal Center for Spiritual Culture was established. In 2001, at the Znamensky Church, according to the numerous requests of the residents of the Krasnogorsk district, the St. George High School, having state accreditation, was opened. The church parish of the Church of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos, with God's help, reconstructs the magnificent temple, its new spiritual life, which brings joy, a strong and reliable society, quietly builds the present, which will grow into the future.

69004 and 69003 start the descent of Upton Scudamore bank with 3q00, a positioning move from Woking to Exeter for one of Network Rail’s weedkilling trains.

The rebuilt and reengined former class 56s have not had universal success to date. In January 2023 the rebuilding programme was paused and all locomotives already in traffic returned to Progress Rail’s Longport facility for rectification.

After several months, the class 69s have returned to service, but only (to date) operating Network Rail’s new fleet of weedkilling trains.

Whether this is a temporary resurgence or a resumption of normal workings remains to be seen.

As 2022 comes to its end and conclusion, the resumption of the annual New Year Eve Countdown and fireworks at the Marina Bay area marks the almost normal return to life in Singapore after two years of cancellations due to the pandemic.

Let us hope that 2023 will be a better year for the world and all of us, despite the many challenges.

Happy New Year!

The line to Harrison diverges from the 5th sub at Sappington and then follows Antelope Creek to the junction of Little Antelope Creek, which what we see the Harrison Local crossing on its return trip to Logan. Very interesting area with lots of photo potential that will probably not last too long after the resumption of BNSF ownership.

Resumption of looks, resumption of childhood, resumption of desires, resumption ... of life.

I particularly like this photo, these colors. Sins of pride ? Perhaps yes a small pride of the treatment of colors. To confess, this treatment fell rather quickly, in a few minutes because the initial colors, although raw colors of the sensor were falling where I wanted they do.

But then why do I like it? Because it takes me back in time even though the picture is so recent.

Artistic experience: modest one!

I would like to know what you think about it, but especially what you feel? To know if we share a common emotion in front of an image...

I hope that it be a resumption:)

A summer of fire....

It started so well, this summer of 2022, in my beautiful region of the Bassin d'Arcachon (GIRONDE)...

Like every year, the shorebird lover that I am, regularly observed the nests of Pied Avocets and Black-winged Stilts...the breeding season of these magnificent birds, and of a large number of other species, promised 'to be beautiful ...

Between June 15 and 18, 2022, the heat wave settled in the south-west of France, trying for human beings... and murdering for flora and wildlife:

On the Banc d'Arguin, a national nature reserve located at the entrance to the Bassin d'Arcachon, 313 seagull chicks were found dead of dehydration ...

The month of July was just as scorching and difficult for the birds of the Teich reserve, which in addition suffered heavy predation from black kites which fed their chicks; on 07/29/2022, the ornithological reserve published a rather sad report:

"Among the Avocets, out of 23 installed nests and 26 hatched chicks, no fledglings were observed due to the strong predation pressure exerted by the Black Kite. The two installed colonies of Black-headed Gulls suffered from full force of predation. Of 112 nests installed, 65 had at least one egg hatched. The number of predated chicks is estimated at 113. Only 3 chicks survived.

The Black-winged Stilts seem to be doing better with 51 nests installed, 78 predated chicks and 4 chicks observed fledging..."

Some species such as mute swans, common shelduck, mallards, Common Moorhen have fared better...fortunately

A sweltering summer...the vegetation was so dry...the temperatures were so high...

on July 12, two monstrous fires set Landiras and La Teste de Buch ablaze, then the towns of Saumos and Arès; Despite the hard work of firefighters, canadairs, DASH aircraft .... they will only be declared extinct on September 28, after having devastated 12,552 hectares in July, then 6,743 hectares in August in Landiras, 3,350 hectares in the town of Saumos and 120 hectares in the commune of Arès...Fortunately, no human casualties were to be deplored. Sometimes endemic flora and wildlife pay a heavy price......many animals (Foxes, young wild boars, fawns, birds, squirrels, Batrachians, reptiles, hedgehogs, insects...) perished, charred and/or asphyxiated...others who managed to flee the hell of the flames badly burned... we still find today deer, young wild boars... who wander in these places walking on the bone stumps of their legs... many are euthanized when they are recovered.. .

How difficult it is for me to forget this summer ... each year, the observation of climate change becomes more serious, in my region as in yours, and this phenomenon is accelerating inexorably ... If the fire de La teste is due to an accident, all other fires, all resumptions of fire (up to 10 on certain days) are CRIMINAL acts....Is the man going mad?...

I didnt mean the spread,,, lol:) Talking more of everyone's plight each morning on our way to work. The ongoing construction of an overhead high way in my area has contributed to more traffic. We are a week or two away from the resumption of school and traffic is expected to turn from bad to worse,

Motorcycles have mushroomed and become more visible since fuel prices shot up in the world market. People found it as a neat way to get around the bad traffic in Manila. However, statistics show a high accident rate for this type of transport. A lot of them turn into daredevils and traffic nuisances when they cruise the streets of the Metropolis. They have a penchant for swerving into your lane, scooting into every possible opening in traffic or dangerously overtaking/passing you on your blindside as seen above.

9.10am on a glorious Saturday 17th April 2021 at Loughborough Central, Great Central Railway (GCR) Leicestershire sees the days' first locomotive movements following the resumption of the restricted weekend passenger services from Quorn and Woodhouse to Leicester North - following the easing of the COVID restrictions. Indeed a 'Historical Moment'!

Pictured is Riddles designed BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 No. 92214 Leicester City moving off from the water tower having 'Topped Up' for its first duties. Its en route to collect its empty 'Sanitised' coaching stock from Platform 1 - before departing one half hour later to Quorn and Woodhouse to collect its exciting and expectant passengers for day's first service train one hour later.

From past to present. The Heritage flight represents generations of courage, sacrifice, and innovation taking to the skies together in a demonstration of power and resilience and a testament to those who have fought for our freedoms.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is an American family of single-seat, single-engine, supersonic stealth strike fighters. A multirole combat aircraft designed for both air superiority and strike missions, it also has electronic warfare and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.

Controlling the air proved key to controlling the ground. The long-range P-51 Mustang fighter was invaluable to the Allied victory, enabling resumption of strategic bombing after heavy losses suffered by unescorted bombers in 1943. Developed for export to Britain, models modified by the British to use Rolls-Royce Merlin engines became America’s most capable wartime fighters.

Walsrode Bird Park

We were at the bird park to see the resumption of the afternoon flight show which has been halted since March due to Covid-19. It’s always a good show with input from Pelicans and a Condor amongst many others. The grand finale involves a fly past of the birds from the show plus an array of colourful parrots. I travelled light with just one lens which wasn’t really suited to the job, I did, however, manage to get one or two half decent in flight shots, of which this is one.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

According to the latest news from Mongolian Railway (UBTZ) and China Railway's relative departments negotiating and conducting customer surveys for the resumption of international train K23/24 Ulaanbaatar - Beijing. This route's international passenger services have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020 until today!

It's definitely good news for the international railfans and train travelers📷🚞

In addition, during the international railway forum held in St. Petersburg last September, the MN/CN and RU parties discussed the issue of reviving the Trans-Siberian Express train on the Moscow-Ulaanbaatar-Beijing route. This could be the next important project to restore the Trans-Siberian international route!

C-GUKH, a De Havilland Canada DHC-8-402 Dash 8-400, landing on runway 33 at Downsview Airport in Toronto, Ontario.

Serial number 4633 was arriving as DHC4633 (De Havilland Canada) after performing its first flight. It was four hours and 35 minutes long.

This aircraft is expected to be the last Dash 8 produced at Downsview, where De Havilland has been operating for 92 years. No date has been set for a resumption of the type's production, nor has it been announced where that might take place.

Dash 8 production totaled 1,304 units.

They included 299 -100s, 105 -200s, 267 -300s and 633 -400s.

Amtrak was reported to be running some test trains in preparation for the resumption of passenger service on the CSX NO&M Subdivision east of New Orleans. Here one of those trains heads eastward across the 2.1-mile long bridge across the Bay of Saint Louis on March 8, 2023.

Entrance to a gallery of the old ocher mines, near Roussillon. This whole region is crossed by ocher deposits and their mining has been carried out since the 17th century until the appearance of synthetic dyes. This industrial past, combined with the resumption of the rights of nature over the now abandoned mining sites, has shaped landscapes that are often spectacular. This geological typicity has long had a strong tourist attraction, giving rise to the establishment of marked and paying routes such as the "ocher trail" in Roussillon and the "Colorado Provençal" in Rustrel. The present image, taken outside these routes, shows that such curiosities are in fact found in many places.

L'image présente, prise en dehors de ces parcours, montre que de telles curiosités se rencontrent en fait en de maints endroits.

Sicily

Italy

somewhere between Cefalu' and Messina

The newspapers that day :

"Palermo, sept 29 - Hot 30-degrees Sirocco winds blowing from north Africa contribute to the spread of wildfires in Sicily. Fires outside Palermo and Messina have now been raging for three days, destroying forests, farmland and threatening houses in the towns of Montagnareale and Tusa. At present, the areas hardest hit are those lying outside Cefalu' (Palermo) and Tusa (Messina), with fires advancing on a 6km front forcing the evacuation of several houses. Last night Italy's fire brigade had temporarily managed to keep the fire in check only for it resume strength later on. Close to a 1500 hectares of forest are reported to have been destroyed outside Cefalu', warranting a resumption in airborne fire-fighting operations. ."

After a long hot summer, a look ahead to a little chill in the air, by looking back. On a frigid 16 February 1991, the eastbound Lake Shore Limited pulls out of the Syracuse station with three F40s up front, led by the 338, while on a side track, Lackawanna E8A No. 808 awaits spring and the resumption of its restoration to service.

During a photo tour, GDT 0518 of the Heideexpress crosses the Ilmenau River in Lüneburg with two freight cars. The line from Lüneburg to Soltau is currently being prepared for the resumption of passenger service in 2027.

For the third time that week, AMTK 108 is leading a requalification run for the Adirondack, which has still not resumed service after covid disruptions (news articles are mentioning a resumption of service in the spring). Here it is backing up towards Central Station, with the right of way for the REM light rail line above at left.

C-GUJV, a De Havilland Canada DHC-8-402 Dash 8-400, launching off runway 33 at Downsview Airport in Toronto, Ontario. "Dande" was departing as DHC4632 (De Havilland Canada) on a 2.5 hour test flight.

Serial number 4632 was due to become D2-TFF with TAAG - Linhas Aereas de Angola, E.P. at Luanda, Angola. It would become TAAG's sixth Dash 8-400.

This airframe was the second last Dash 8 to be built before production was paused. De Havilland would eventually vacate this site, where it had been operating for 93 years. No date has been set for a resumption of Dash 8 manufacturing.

A train of unprocessed taconite from Northshore Mining's Babbitt Mine weaves downgrade through hills dotting the north shore of Lake Superior, closing in on the harbor town of Silver Bay, MN, with the dynamics whaling at the command of the engineer staying warm (hopefully) in the leading cab of his matched gray SD40-2 trio. The thermometer reads well into the negative double digits, with another 20 degrees subtracted for the chill of a steady wind, prompting NSM to cut train sizes nearly in half on account of air brake performance. With the big lake solidly frozen over, the ore will be stockpiled after processing in Silver Bay to await the resumption of shipping season a couple months distant.

The Zillertalbahns freight services are still going strong three years after the resumption of service. The trains schedule remains basically the same with a approximately 7:30 departure from Jenbach to Fügen which works out well in the long summer days. Unlike last year I got the freight on the first attempt. The train is seen here entering the Ziller Valley at Strass.

Photos in the Severn Valley in July 2021.

The simple pleasures of a country railway station, Highley on the Severn Valley Railway, delightfully restored to its condition in later days. There was only ever one platform here on this mainly single line route from Shrewsbury to Kidderminster / Hartlebury, although it was possible for a passenger train to cross a freight train. A handful of passengers await their train in the midst of the delightful scenery of the Severn Valley.

Closure to passengers between Bewdley and Shrewsbury was on and from 9 September 1963, with the section north of Alveley Colliery (just south of here) being abandoned on 2.12.1963. With closure of the colliery, the last of several linked to the line, on 31 January 1969 all was redundant.

That was not quite the end as it was thought that there might be a resumption of traffic, so the signaller was retained for a period, long enough to come to the attention of the press. In those days with pay packets being always in cash at the place of work, a means was needed to deliver the signaller's wage packet. As there was no road access to the signal box, the solution was to send the wages by rail, a light locomotive being used, by then the only rail movement on the line.

The Kangaroo from Down Under - Qantas released its newest update for international service resumptions earlier this week, which suggests limited service resumptions using their 787-9 Dreamliners to a handful of destinations towards the end of this year. The Prairie Lines orange GP15 #008 works to switch boxcars for beer loading at the former Anheuser Busch brwery in St. Louis. The old Manufacturers Railway yard off Arsenal Street looks like it was laid out by a model railroader with sharp curves and every inch filled with cars. Looks like a challenging place to switch. With the resumption of outbound beer being shipped by rail again, I had not watched the process. Interesting for me to see the 008 climbing up the ramp that crosses over the UP Lesperance Lead. Neat job to watch switch around on Monday-Saturday. Thanks to MM for the heads up on the power assignment for this morning as I hadn't caught the 008 in action.

Paris Court is one of the jewels of Budapest; it has been the subject of admiration for over a century now. The most iconic elements of it, like the shopping passageway, the glass cupola over the passage that looks like the sun is shining through it all the time or the Zsolnay ceramics are all kept and open for the public. The Zsolnay factory was established by Miklós Zsolnay (1800–1880) in Pécs, Hungary, to produce stoneware and other ceramics in 1853. In 1863, his son, Vilmos Zsolnay (1828–1900) joined the company and became its manager and director after several years. He led the factory to worldwide recognition by demonstrating its innovative products at world fairs and international exhibitions, including the 1873 World Fair in Vienna, then at the 1878 World Fair in Paris, where Zsolnay received a Grand Prix. In 1893, Zsolnay introduced porcelain pieces made of eosin. Tádé Sikorski (1852–1940) married Vilmos’ daughter Júlia and became the chief designer. In 1900 Vilmos’ son Miklós took over. Frost-resisting Zsolnay building decorations were used in numerous buildings specifically during the Art Nouveau movement. By 1914, Zsolnay was the largest company in Austro-Hungary. During World War I, production of pottery and building materials were curtailed, and the factory produced for military use, for instance insulators. After World War I, the fortunes of the factory declined due to the Serbian occupation, loss of markets, and difficulty to secure raw materials. However, after the depression, conditions improved.

During World War II, its site of production in Budapest was bombed. With the rule of communism the factory was nationalized in 1948. Eventually, the Zsolnay name was dropped. The Pécsi Porcelángyár (Pécs Porcelain Factory) was used primarily to produce common tableware goods. However, in 1982 with the resumption of a market economy, the company regained its operational independence, was reorganized, and the Zsolnay name returned. In 1991, the Zsolnay Porcelain Manufacture became a stock company, and five years later it was bought by a private equity enterprise.

In 2012, a Swiss-Syrian businessman called Bachar Najari bought the company from the city of Pécs.

Beside the factory, there is also the Zsolnay Museum in Pécs.

The Tomb of Pope Julius II is a sculptural and architectural ensemble by Michelangelo and his assistants, originally commissioned in 1505 but not completed until 1545 on a much reduced scale. Originally intended for St. Peter's Basilica, the structure was instead placed in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli on the Esquiline in Rome after the pope's death. This church was patronized by the Della Rovere family from which Julius came, and he had been titular cardinal there. Julius II, however, is buried next to his uncle Sixtus IV in St. Peter's Basilica, so the final structure does not actually function as a tomb.

As originally conceived, the tomb would have been a colossal structure that would have given Michelangelo the room he needed for his superhuman, tragic beings. This project became one of the great disappointments of Michelangelo's life when the pope, for unexplained reasons, interrupted the commission, possibly because funds had to be diverted for Bramante's rebuilding of St. Peter's. The original project called for a freestanding, three-level structure with some 40 statues. After the pope's death in 1513, the scale of the project was reduced step-by-step until, in April 1532, a final contract specified a simple wall tomb with fewer than one-third of the figures originally planned.

The most famous sculpture associated with the tomb is the figure of Moses, which Michelangelo completed during one of the sporadic resumptions of the work in 1513. Michelangelo felt that this was his most lifelike creation. Legend has it that upon its completion he struck the right knee commanding, "now speak!" as he felt that life was the only thing left inside the marble. There is a scar on the knee thought to be the mark of Michelangelo's hammer.

1505 – Julius commissions a tomb from Michelangelo, who spends eight months choosing marble at Carrara. Sometime during construction, however, Michelangelo and the Pope have a quarrel, causing Michelangelo to leave Rome for his safety.

1508 – Donato Bramante, apparently jealous of Michelangelo's commission, used Michelangelo's absence to convince the Pope that it is bad luck to have his tomb built during his own lifetime, and that Michelangelo's time would be better spent on the Sistine Chapel ceiling in the Vatican Palace. He, along with Michelangelo's other rivals, thought that Michelangelo would be unable to complete the massive ceiling project and thus be humiliated and leave Rome.

1512 – With his decoration of the Sistine Chapel ceiling complete, Michelangelo resumed work on the tomb. Between 1512 and 1513 he completed three sculptures for the project: the Dying and Rebellious Slaves (now in the Louvre, Paris) and Moses (retained in the final design).

1513 – Julius died in February 1513. A new contract was drawn up on 6 May which specified a wall tomb. On 9 July Michelangelo contracted a stonemason, Antonio del Ponte a Sieve, to execute the architectural elements of the tomb's lower register, which can be seen in the final design. A large, ruined drawing attributed to Michelangelo survives from this phase of the project, in the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin; a more legible facsimile by his pupil Jacomo Rocchetti is also in the same collection. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City has a drawing of the tomb from this period. Though no longer for a free-standing monument, the project in fact became more ambitious both in terms of size and the complexity of its iconography.

1516 – Michelangelo agrees to a new contract with Julius's heirs, who demand the completion of the project.

1520s – Michelangelo carves The Genius of Victory and four unfinished Slaves (now in the Accademia, Florence).

1532 – Michelangelo signs a second new contract, which involves a wall-tomb.

1542 – Michelangelo begins the wall-tomb after negotiating final details with Julius's grandson.

1545 – The final tomb, more properly a funerary monument because Julius II is not interred there, is completed and installed in San Pietro in Vincoli; it includes Michelangelo's Moses along with Leah and Rachel (probably completed by Michelangelo's assistants) on the lower level, and several other sculptures (definitely not by Michelangelo) on the upper level.

The first thing I noticed last time was how noisy they are. I'd forgotten that. After months of working at home in the kitchen, followed by the long summer break, the unending wall of sound that more than four thousand teenagers makes had almost become a thing of the past. It was a rude awakening.

Tomorrow I'm going to go through the same experience again as England takes its first steps back to business as usual. It's almost three months since my path last crossed those of the students and I'm not entirely sure I'm prepared for the resumption of duties beyond the four walls of home. Apart from anything I'm not certain where my deodorant is. At least an uncharacteristic burst of energy earlier today means that five freshly ironed shirts are ready and waiting upstairs in the bedroom wardrobe for the week ahead. It's just their occupant who seems to be having a problem with the situation. By this time tomorrow I will already be pious, moaning and defeated - in fact I've already started the moaning as you can tell.

So in view of the approaching sensory overload I'm thinking calm thoughts and reminding myself that on the plus side I can enjoy "recreation" outside from tomorrow. My loose interpretation of this is that I can go and stand here and put the camera on the tripod until long into the blue hour once more. Soon the clocks will go forward and it will even be possible to make it to the coast after work in the evenings.

I'd forgotten I'd taken this picture until a couple of days ago when I was plodding through my SSD drive. There's a certain joy in digging about through old images and finding memories. It was the Sunday of a weekend when I'd ended up in this exact same spot for the second consecutive day and my usual immediate employment of my ND filters was brought to a temporary halt by the presence of a small cruiser making its way across St Ives Bay in the direction of Portreath. Those of you who know this place will be aware that calm seas such as this aren't the norm here, the reason why I'd seized upon the opportunity for ultra long exposures the previous day to lose the ripples completely. The scene was completed by a celestial motorway of cloud, which spread itself right across the heavens in front of me, and below the cliff I was standing on a group of seals were providing additional entertainment for anyone who cared to stand here a while. It was an hour of perfect serenity, something I am confidently predicting will not be the case tomorrow morning. At least it's only four weeks until Easter I suppose.

So wish my luck folks. I'm off to dig out the shoe polish and the red wine. Hopefully I won't get them mixed up.

Notice of resumption of admission to the Hoo-do (Phoenix Hall) of Byodoin Temple, National Treasure

One of only 2 produced, the first truly mean looking American designed and built Sports road racing car, over a decade before Shelby's Cobra. Purpose designed to win at LeMans, and later the very challenging European road racing circuit. The US was preoccupied with oval track racing, very demanding, but not nearly as complex as the wild racing (LONG) over the winding European public road system requiring adapting to both left and right turns, frequent serious braking followed by serious acceleration, and blind corners and hills.

Briggs himself tried to drive this car for the full 24 hours by himself, but was so disoriented after 21 and 1/2, he needed relief for the final 3 hours. Finished 3rd to the two C type Jaguars newly fitted with Dunlop's Disc Brakes, which they refused to provide to him, even though he was the East Coast distributor for Jaguar in the US. It probably cost him the race. He subsequently lost interest in European racing, but..........to stave off boredom.....Captained the 12 meter Yacht Columbia in it's 4-0 sweep of the British Septre, in the first post war resumption of the America's Cup races. Amazing man, and car.

Vince, notice the steel wheels with the ventilation holes.....chosen for strength (just as on the D Jag) when the huge torque of the big Hemi, could snap wire wheels on the winding road racing circuit. Not nearly as pretty as wires, but you were more likely to finish the race in 1 piece if you were pushing the car, and drifting through sharp corners.

The single coupe produced is even more imposing in appearance.

Enlarge to appreciate the grouchy expression on the driver's sunburned face.

A long overdue resumption of my coastal photography with a trip back to Whitburn. So a crippling 2.55am start to pick up my good friend Jim and then charge north to the coast before dawn. I'm pleased to say we were treated to a beautifully golden sunrise for our troubles. It is great to get back into what i love doing.

The 2021 Cumbre Vieja eruption began on 19 September 2021 as a flank eruption at the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge comprising the southern half of the Spanish island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. It is the first volcanic eruption on the island since the eruption of Teneguía in 1971. At 85 days, it is the longest known eruption of a volcano on La Palma.

The eruption has caused the evacuation of around 7,000 people, and the lava flow has covered over 1000 hectares. The lava flow is about 3.5 kilometre (2.3 mile) wide in its widest point, about 6.2 kilometre long (3.9 mile) and has reached the sea, destroying more than 3,000 buildings, cutting the coastal highway and forming a new peninsula. The town of Todoque, including its easternmost neighbourhood Los Campitos, was completely destroyed by lava, which has also reached La Laguna (a town within the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane). One death has been linked to the volcano but the cause has yet to be determined.

It is the most damaging volcanic eruption on La Palma since records began.

On early December, volcanic activity decreased while on 13 December 2021, the volcanic activity stopped. Noting weak seismicity and tremors, scientists said that a resumption of the eruption was highly improbable, giving locals hope that it had ended. On 25 December 2021, after 12 days with no activity from the volcano, the eruption was officially declared to have ended (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Cumbre_Vieja_volcanic_eruption).

An infrequent visitor to our area from the Colas fleet is 37057 'Barbara Arbon', so I thought I'd take the opportunity of a less than ideal shot of her stabled at Carnforth, awaiting a resumption of test train duties later in the evening in the North West and Furness areas.

10.50am on Sunday 2nd May 2021, sees BR Standard Class 2MT

2-6-0 No 78018 make a 'Spirited Departure' from Rothley, Great Central Railway (GCR), Leicestershire on the return journey of the Quorn to Quorn service, following GCR's resumption of weekend passenger services after the recent easing of COVID restrictions.

The train had early stopped at Rothley Station to return the single line token. Passengers neither boarded or alighted from the train.

Built in 1954, this engine when based at Kirkby Stephen working trains from Tebay to Barnard Castle on the Stainmore Railway, became famous by getting stuck in a snow drift during February 1955, which resulted in the film 'Snowdrift at Bleath Gill'

Thereafter it was transferred to various other depots before its withdrawal on 12th November 1966 after only 12 years. In November 1978 it was rescued from Barry Scrapyard before being sold to its present owners the Darlington Railway Preservation Society in 1981. After undergoing substantial and loving restoration it made a welcome return to service during GCR's 2016 Autumn Gala.

Recently the engine has received a nameplate - Borough of Darlington - which only appears on this side - due to lack of available space on its other side.

History of Veterans Day

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…"

The original concept for the celebration was for a day observed with parades and public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The United States Congress officially recognized the end of World War I when it passed a concurrent resolution on June 4, 1926, with these words:

Whereas the 11th of November 1918, marked the cessation of the most destructive, sanguinary, and far reaching war in human annals and the resumption by the people of the United States of peaceful relations with other nations, which we hope may never again be severed, and

Whereas it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of this date should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations; and

Whereas the legislatures of twenty-seven of our States have already declared November 11 to be a legal holiday: Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), that the President of the United States is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the officials to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on November 11 and inviting the people of the United States to observe the day in schools and churches, or other suitable places, with appropriate ceremonies of friendly relations with all other peoples.

The Coast Path resumes on the other side of the ferry crossing. Luckily I didn't need to cross for I would have been out of luck on this day.

A dilapidated, desolate house still standing after the resumption for the new high-way. Makes for a bit of an interesting foreground to the gorgeous milky way.

I will head back to this location to try and improve on this approach. Looking forward to some clear dark skies and a new remote release.
