I captured this image at the "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel Island, on the southwestern coast of Florida. Paraphrasing Yogi Berra: It was deja vus all over again. A year earlier, after having had a wonderful lunch with Jan (jannagal) and his wife Felicia, my wife and I decided to take one last quick trip around Ding Darling before returning home. We encountered an Osprey (a different one, I'm sure) feasting on a fish on the roadway. The photographic results of that encounter are present on this same set. This year, again after having had a wonderful lunch with Jan and Felicia, my wife and I decided to take one last quick trip around Ding Darling before returning home. This time we encountered this Osprey feasting on a fish (sheepshead) on top of a snag. As you can tell by the condition of the fish in his left talons, the Osprey had been feasting for some time. There was a gusty wind which threatened to blow her off the snag, but she tenaciously hung on to the snag with one set of talons and to her fish with the other. The strength of this bird must be substantial. She stood there like that for the 20 minutes we were there and more, while I shot a couple of hundred frames.

After noting the hummer "attacks" I moved up above the waterfall and arrived to witness this rather gruesome (but unique for me) scene. I also witnessed the heron capture a second hummer by the tail - luckily it managed to escape before being swallowed !! A pretty amazing sight !!

I made an onion and pepper relish and pico de gallo. Family already went thru one jar of pico! These jars are to be refrigerated for upcoming recipes.

Big Ben would have been given the "most enthusiastic" award if their was one. He truly was excited to be on the Arnold Classic stage in great condition.

Ontario (Algonquin Park) - 20191006-03

Trees that have leaves that change color in fall are deciduous. Most of the year, these leaves are green because of the chlorophyll they use to absorb energy from sunlight during photosynthesis. The leaves convert the energy into sugars to feed the tree.

As the season changes, temperatures drop and days get shorter. Trees get less direct sunlight, and the chlorophyll in the leaves breaks down.

The lack of chlorophyll reveals yellow and orange pigments that were already in the leaves but masked during the warmer months. Darker red leaves are the result of a chemical change: Sugars that can get trapped in the leaves produce new pigments (called anthocyanins) that weren’t part of the leaf in the growing season. Some trees, like oaks and dogwoods, are likely to produce red leaves.

How much and how fast leaves transform varies by location on the globe. The best colors are produced when the weather is dry, sunny and cool. Places that are cloudy, damp or warm won’t see the same degree of changing color. (Smithsonian)

----------------

The summer of 2019 had to have been sunny and dry to produce these amazing colours. This year, haze from wildfires and a rainy summer have resulted in less spectacular results.

The contest is over and it's time to see who the winners are :)))))

Big thanks to everyone who participated!

This evening's "train of the night" was a pair of Kansas City Southern's on NS 130-05, due through Dayton just after sunset. This was one of those trains I really needed my flashes to perform.

Batteries were charged, but, predictably, one of my receivers failed on me during testing. Luckily, my #2 flash setup worked just fine, so i proceeded with a half lit setup, and the results weren't too bad. Maybe next time will be better.

Matizes do Tempo

About 30 percent of my photos can be re-rippled to the point where I finally like their abstract-worthiness (even the photos I absolutely hate, originally!). :D

Flipped over so you can see all the swirly colors! I'm happy in this pic, even though I look unhappy. I just dyed my hair rainbow colors and it's still damp, but I like the results.

About the t-shirt. It's one of my favorite things ever. When work feels overwhelming, remember that you're going to die.

For the record, I'd like it to be noted that my ears are pierced three times, it's just that the second hole is directly above the first instead of further up on the ear like you'd expect. I did it myself when I was about 13, for shits and giggles and kept it all these years in spite of countless other piercings that I let go of. I don't know why I've held onto this one. Anyway, that's why my earlobe looks wonky.

By the way, I was forbidden by my mother to pierce anything after punching two holes in my ears at 11. Did it anyway and she never noticed. Typical. Award winning nurturer, that one.

Got bored this morning and made this, not too good but I kinda like it. What do you think my fellow PMGers?

So here's what the rollers achieved. Hope you like the result. x

I heard the moon was peculiarly full last night.

A few weeks ago I escaped from the tyrrany of the computer and spent all week in my studio making paper cuts.

Robins hatching.

This was taken on Sunday. I have not disturbed them since, so I hope they are still there. There are racoons around who would love to have these for a snack.

Repeating layrers of clay /calcium carbonate/ clay settled down, and have been eroded by the sea. The calcium carbonate layers resist less, the clay layers more, resulting in this unique pattern.
