This was captured using the same technique as flic.kr/p/2oEB5So and is of the identical scene (beach loungers). I processed it as a monochrome using Nik Silver Efex for the Thursday Monochrome group today, mainly to see what the shapes and textures looked like.

I find it an interesting abstract pulling us two ways, with a sense of repetition and depth like we have seen before with this approach. Originally I toned it a deep cyanotype blue, but it’s been a lovely sunny day here today and the blue looked too cold when I went back to it. I recoloured it in Affinity (it’s still monochrome).

The shape left of centre reminded me of a Japanese Torii gate outside a Shinto shrine, hence the title.

Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Donnertagsmonocrom and 100x :)

The former home of the Detroit Lions .Before the roof collapsed in December 2012, the Silverdome was a fully functional stadium. This was a structure with seating, bathrooms, and restaurants designed to serve more than 80,000 people. Opened in 1975, the Silverdome once hosted the Superbowl, an appearance by the pope, and was home to the Lions until 2001.

Venice maybe is the best place for all colours to live in a balanced way@

Maxim's is a restaurant located in Paris, 3, rue Royale, in the district of the Madeleine. Founded April 7, 1893, it is one of the most well known of the French capital

we went out for an early dinner (before the friday night crowd filled up these seats), at a super yummy pizza place called 'Mozza Mia'. they have amazing wood fired pizzas (with their own homemade mozzarella)... we ordered one margherita and one fig & prosciutto pizza and they were both amazing!

my brother is an architect and i am proud to say that he had a hand in designing this place. loved it G!

You’ve seen this before. Well, at least you’ve seen the scene. See flic.kr/p/2oEcyNB to see the seaside scene ;)

As usual, it’s a two-image in-camera multiple exposure using ICMs with horizontal and vertical movements, blended using the camera’s Lighten blend mode.

Also, as usual for this style of capture, I have emphasised the texture and the colour in the processing. The original, also as usual, was fairly bland.

I was attracted to this particular view by the repetition in the beach loungers and umbrellas. At the time I thought it was worth a play…

I find it interesting how different this was from the first. There’s a different blend mode being used (I think anyway) and the movements are more pronounced. It just shows how it’s worth playing about with the variables when taking these ICMs and multiple exposures. You can discover all sorts of different looks. And some even work!

Happy weekend everyone.

Master planning for Centre Island Park began in 1956, leading to the creation of several notable landmarks. Among them was the hexagon-shaped Iroquois Restaurant, designed by Hancock, Little, Calvert Associates. Perched on the bank of a lagoon, the building was distinguished by its folded copper roof and massive timber beams. Originally opened as the Iroquois, it is now known as the Carousel Café.

Borstahusen is a fishing village from the 1770s, located in the northwestern Landskrona run over to Ven.

Fish State was founded in 1774 by the two brothers Rasmus Andersson Brush and Jöns Andersson Brush, who also gave it its name. During the cholera epidemic that ravaged the village in 1853 became ill a quarter of the population, and 31 people died. [1]

Around the buildings from the 1770s are today Borstahusens recreation area with camping, golf courses and beaches.

The harbor is the Cultural pump housing with the art gallery, museum and restaurant, designed by architect Per Dockson. In Borstahusen is also a cozy gästbåtshamn.strand house

Attached to the main building to the south is the station restaurant designed by southwestern architect Mary Colter (the last of the "Harvey House" restaurants to be constructed as a part of a passenger terminal). Although now usually padlocked and stripped of many interior furnishings, the topology of its rounded central counter, streamlined booths, and inlaid floor patterns remain.

Opened in May 1939, Union Station is known as the "Last of the Great Railway Stations" built in theUnited States

Here's the Holden Efijy concept car on display at the General Motors showcase in the parking lot of the Athens Coney Island diner in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak during the 2007 Woodward Dream Cruise.

When I think of American car companies that operate in Australia, I primarily think of Ford, but GM also operates in Australia through their subsidiary, GM Holden Ltd.

The Holden Efijy is a retro-styled concept car with a design evocative of the automobiles of the 1940s and early 1950s, especially the Holden FJ (which was made in 1953; I guess Australian designers were still into curvy styles while American cars were beginning to sprout tailfins).

From Wikipedia:

Richard Ferlazzo was the designer behind the Efijy project. He began sketching the first designs in 1989. The main reason for making this car is purely for entertainment. “Invariably, people smile when they see it for the first time. Efijy is our accolade to the talented designers who cut loose with some fantastically flamboyant styling in the post-war 1940s and 1950s,” Richard Ferlazzo said. “Ask the question, ‘what would these people have created using all the skill sets and technology we have now’, and Efijy might be the all-Australian answer to that question," in relation to the original FJ designers.

The engine used is a Chevrolet 6.0 litre LS2 V8 engine that has been supercharged and modified by Ron Harrop, an ex FJ racer and well respected automotive person in Australia. The engine produces 480 kilowatts (645 bhp) and 775 newton metres (560 ft·lbf) of torque through the rear wheels.

The James Avenue Pumphouse Restaurant abuts the preserved James Avenue Pumping Station room and we are here for dinner.

This is a view from the restaurant.

Designed by Winnipeg City Engineer Henry Norlande Ruttan, the one-storey brick building was constructed in 1906 to supply and improve the city’s inadequate water supply system for firefighting.

The pumps drew water from the Red River and distributed it through eight miles of lines to over seventy hydrants in the downtown area.

Six pumps were powered by gas derived from coal. In 1962, the engines were converted to natural gas and electricity.

The facility, now a municipally-designated historic site, closed in 1986.

In 2016, a proposal to turn the vacant building into a mixed-use facility, along with two other new structures on its east and west facades, was approved by the City of Winnipeg.

A floor plate was installed inside the building, above the original historic floor, with its turn-of-the-century machinery.

Tenants of the new office space above are able to view the machine works below.

The building won a conservation award from Heritage Winnipeg in 2022.

No matter whether you call an oblong sandwich a grinder, a sub, a hoagie, a po'boy, or something else, some people probably consider the type of food served at this restaurant to be heavenly. The vintage neon sign here is heavenly, or at least I think it is!
