*Süntelbuche im Herbst*
Last Wednesday I drove to the northern Eifel to catch a few autumn moods. Fortunately, the over 200 year old dwarf beech tree on a Celtic burial mound near Blankenheim still had a few autumn-colored leaves ... and occasionally the sun came out.
Letzte Mittwoch fuhr ich in die Nordeifel, um ein paar herbstliche Stimmungen einzufangen. Die über 200 Jahre alte Süntelbuche auf einem keltischen Grabhügel bei Blankenheim hatte zum Glück noch ein paar herbstlich gefärbte Blätter...und gelegentlich zeigte sich auch die Sonne.

During the shooting, the butterfly rolled the proboscis constantly in and out and moved, which did not make the focussing much easier.

The first sentence of the inscription is probably part of the poetic / musical tradition of the island, a couplet - religious in this case - with which the musicians composed the "mantinades", songs played in the "panigyri", celebrations that combined religion, entertainment and trade. The second, of course, mentions the donor who contributed to the construction of the temple.

A version of the Steller's Jay using selective color to show the beautiful feathers in the wings and tail. The head is almost completely black, but you can see some detail in the feathers and eye . Please let me know which version you prefer.

Some flowers have the ability to draw me closer and closer while I focus on their petals. It isn't until later that I notice such sharp edges to the petals.

This wiry fence is doing its best to keep people from falling off the cliff overlooking a local waterfall. You can just make out the top of the falls in the background. However, the fence itself is not one I would trust to hold me if I lean on it. It is definitely up to people to respect the boundaries and take caution. We love all the snowshoeing we have been doing this month as we continue to get fresh snowfalls everyday. On this day, the snow was so wet, it was a challenge to keep our gear dry. Happy Fence Friday!
Cet oiseau à tout pour plaire ! Peu farouche, on peut s'asseoir à distance respectable alors qu'il regarde son domaine sur un petit monticule dans la toundra. Parfois, sa tête tombe en avant, ses yeux se ferment... Il pique littéralement du bec et est parti pour la sieste. Ce n'est que lorsqu'il aura décidé d'aller voir ailleurs ou qu'une buse pattue passe en vol qu'il décolle.
Contrairement à son cousin le labbe parasite, le cleptoparasitisme en été est plutôt rare chez cette espèce. Il préfère chasser les rongeurs. On le voit d'ailleurs souvent faire du vol stationnaire au-dessus de la toundra, à la manière d'un faucon crécerelle.
Celui-ci était accompagné d'un jeune (volant). On a passé un moment à les observer, et le jeune semblait avoir quelque chose de coincé dans la gorge. Il a fini par régurgiter une masse noire peu ragoutante. Il l'a trifouillée un moment, se demandant s'il devait la manger à nouveau ou la laisser là. Quand ils sont partis, on est allé voir. C'était des restes de rongeur, on voyait très bien l'une des pattes !
