She is now dancing and playing prominent roles in almost all the dance dramas with her seniors for many national dance festivals.

Concept Note

This compilation is an attempt to map the evolution of the ‘Kuchipudi’ dance form which originally was performed only as a dance drama to its current form where the solo format of presentation also has gained in popularity. The journey of the accompanying music & choreography as they changed with the evolution is also captured.

1) Salutations to Balatripurasundari

The presentation begins with a salutation song to Kuchupudi Vani also known as Balatripurasundari the goddess of the kuchipudi village. This composition by Nritya Vachaspati Guru Vedantam Parvateesam heaps praises on Kuchupudi Vani and the richness of the art form. She is praised for her mellifluous vocals, chatur-vidha abhinaya & navarasa skills.

2) Shrusthi:

Shrushti or the emergence of the universe resulted from pranavanadham , the om or omkara. The universe being made up of the Pancha Bhutas – aakasha, vayu, agni, jalam and pritvi whose combination gives way for life or jeevothpattas . Life after undergoing different stages of evolution culminates into the human form filled with all the worldly desires or kama, Resulting in – Janma Janmantharam, Karma Karmaantharam { Kalaya Thasmai Namaha} . Vyjayanthi Kashi has weaved the beejaksharas Ham, Yam, Ram, Lam and Vam corresponding to the five elements into the jatti format.

3) Tarangam:

This is a special number in Kuchipudi. The song accompanying this number is from the well-known “Krishnaleela Tarangini”, a text that recounts the life and events of Lord Krishna by Saint Narayan Theertha who uses various literary and musical forms such as songs, prose passages, slokas & dwipadis.

Vyjayanthi Kashi has knit in the various literary aspects of this musical opera into this tarangam “Pahi Pahi Pahi…”along with the melody of the swaras and tanams . A special element of skill is involved here. The dancers use various pada karmas and dance on the rim of a brass plate. The brass plate is the symbol of Karmakanda: one's field of activity. And the dancer is a Karma Yogi: highly disciplined with the knowledge of some footwork. Dancing on the rim indicates the human possibilities to reach beyond the limits

Raga Amruta Varshini, tala Adi

4) Thillana:

The concluding presentation is Thillana. It is a salutation to the Sun God symbolizing that the end is the beginning. Choreographed to rhythmic intricacies and choreographic patterns, this thillana is a tribute to the fact that a performance never truly concludes but like the rising of the sun it is the beginning of many more to come.

Artistic Technology Research explores current practices in (new) media art. The project investigates, amongst other things, the question of how aesthetic parameters in new media art react to the fragmentation of media: How does the classic concept of aesthetics transform in the age of hyperlocality? Are aesthetics in works of critical media art changing towards an attention aesthetic or a fragmented aesthetic? In this context the transformation of the concept of aesthetics is explored and the necessity of aesthetic parameters in media art as research-based art is brought into question.

Artistic positions of the network of Artistic Technology Research were presented in context of the exhibition series “Faceless” (still on display until 24.11.2014 in MuseumsQuartier Vienna). Faceless is curated by Bogomir Doringer and Brigitte Felderer (in cooperation with Matthias Tarasiewicz).

Manoj Thota, a graduate student research assistant in mechanical engineering, demonstrates the folding of a metal origami base of a new traffic noise barrier in the G.G. Brown building on the University of Michigan's North Campus on November 7, 2017.

The barrier combines a set of cylindrical rods with this origami base. The origami base allows the rods to be easily reconfigured in different patterns, which are designed to block different noise frequencies. This technology could be applied alongside busy highways to block different noise frequencies depending on how traffic is moving. The barriers are also wind-permeable, lighter, and better at dissipating specific frequencies than current barriers.

The research was conducted in the Structural Dynamics and Controls Laboratory under the direction of Kon-Well Wang, the Stephen P. Timoshenko Collegiate Professor and Tim Manganello / BorgWarner Department Chair of Mechanical Engineering. Thota helped lead the research.

Commissioned to work with SALT Research collections, artist Refik Anadol employed machine learning algorithms to search and sort relations among 1,700,000 documents. Interactions of the multidimensional data found in the archives are, in turn, translated into an immersive media installation. Archive Dreaming, which is presented as part of The Uses of Art: Final Exhibition with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Union, is user-driven; however, when idle, the installation "dreams" of unexpected correlations among documents. The resulting high-dimensional data and interactions are translated into an architectural immersive space.

Shortly after receiving the commission, Anadol was a resident artist for Google's Artists and Machine Intelligence Program where he closely collaborated with Mike Tyka and explored cutting-edge developments in the field of machine intelligence in an environment that brings together artists and engineers. Developed during this residency, his intervention Archive Dreaming transforms the gallery space on floor -1 at SALT Galata into an all-encompassing environment that intertwines history with the contemporary, and challenges immutable concepts of the archive, while destabilizing archive-related questions with machine learning algorithms.

In this project, a temporary immersive architectural space is created as a canvas with light and data applied as materials. This radical effort to deconstruct the framework of an illusory space will transgress the normal boundaries of the viewing experience of a library and the conventional flat cinema projection screen, into a three dimensional kinetic and architectonic space of an archive visualized with machine learning algorithms. By training a neural network with images of 1,700,000 documents at SALT Research the main idea is to create an immersive installation with architectural intelligence to reframe memory, history and culture in museum perception for 21st century through the lens of machine intelligence.

SALT is grateful to Google's Artists and Machine Intelligence program, and Doğuş Technology, ŠKODA, Volkswagen Doğuş Finansman for supporting Archive Dreaming.
