Just one more of Emmy to make you laugh. Such a kissable little nose. And such sweet little fang points. Off to the gardens, have a wonderful Sunday! :)
At the edge of a beautiful woodland-edge patch of ferns. And Emmy is sure there must be squirrels ️️close by, to chase. Or maybe even bunnies. She's silly almost all the time except when she smells little critters. And then she's 100% focused on the "hunt."
P.S. No 🐇🐇️️or squirrels were harmed to get this shot. 💗
This snow stuff is new to Ms. EmmyLou Who. She's not totally sure what she thinks about it, but as long as there are friends to play with and squirrels to chase, it will probably be ok. :) ❤️

💔
Thank you, all, for your kind comments. We all love our four-legged friends and continue to love, and miss them, long after they're gone. Lucy was a wonderful & feisty little pup who was a classic rescue story: found abandoned, injured, matted and filthy on the streets of a city in Southern New England.
We got her on 8/26/06 when she was probably 3 or 4 years old. Meaning she was closer to 12 or 13 years old when her back gave out paralyzing her. But because we never knew when she was born, 8/26/06 became her D.O.B in our minds...or at least the date of her "re-birth."
Just a month after Lucy died, little Ms. EmmyLou Who appeared needing a new home, good food and love. Oh, and a big brother. We said, yes, of course.
And it's been a wonderfully wild, silly mad dash of a love fest ever since. (You can read the long version of the story if you click on the image below.) :)
I had company yesterday...my daughter Heather and my new grandpuppy Snickers! She's 5 months old. We tried to do a mini photo shoot, but she was a handful. :)
Lucy loved the Summer and playing in all the gardens we explored with our cameras. We think of her every time we're out and miss her still. (...that's her below from two Summers ago.)
Like Lucy, Emmylou, too loves wandering through Summer fields and streams and gardens. She's getting to know the gardeners at the community gardens and loves watching all the activity there - birds and chipmunks, rabbits and groundhogs, frogs, snakes, butterflies, dragonflies and people and dogs and kids. She loves them all.
And, like sweet Ms. Lucy, she also loves stealing cherry tomatoes...
Ms. Emmylou Who happily covered with twigs and bits of grass after rolling around and exploring in the weeds. She loves running around the community gardens and then getting her little bare belly flat out on the cold, wet grass to cool off. 💗💗
Ms. Emmylou Who racing through the water to get the ball from Raji earlier this morning. She doesn't swim yet, but she loves to play in the lake running along the shore in the shallow water and diving in to get the ball.
We can definitely feel the shift in seasons, now - the water in the lake is warmer than the chilly early morning air. And steam rises off the lakes and rivers until the sun warms the air and evens out the temperatures.
Still a pup, but looking pretty serious here. The reason? Bozo has his tennis ball.
I weighed him today, an even 50 lbs. Looks like his legs are getting longer.
Ms. EmmyLou Who, earlier this evening at the community gardens, on our regular Summer evening romp. Part wild girl and part old, wise soul. My heart melts every time I look into those soft brown eyes. ♡♡♡
Emmy, like Raji is, (...and Lucy was...) is a rescue pup. Please, if you're looking for a puppy or dog or kitten or cat this Summer, remember to check your local shelters, rescue groups and rescue database websites, like Pet Finder. There are millions of wonderful four-legged souls who need loving homes. :)
Late the other evening, for reasons that are unclear, Lucy's back "blew out" again with a newly herniated disc placing pressure on her spinal cord. Luckily we have amazing 24/7 emergency veterinary care here in the Pioneer Valley.
Lucy's "team" of vets, techs, docs, chiropractors, acupuncturists, knowledgeable friends and those who love her have all been amazing in getting her through the past, critical 48 hours. While her hind legs are still paralyzed, most of the other acute symptoms, as well as the intense pain, are subsiding. It looks like she'll make it through this latest bump in the road!
Cross your fingers, and perhaps offer up a few prayers, that her body functionality comes back fully so she can be back playing with us in the gardens she so loves (...and stealing cherry tomatoes before they freeze!)...soon! ♡ :)
Thank you, for your visits, comments and faves!
Frost-covered grass makes for a good, cooling roll after a run...and some frost freckles were left on her nose afterwards. Have a wonderful weekend, my friends. 💛
She is adorable, loving, and comes with loads of personality. And on top of those amazing traits, she makes the sweetest hostess. Thank you, Peggy and Coco, for sharing your home with me.
Journey was our puppy dog for over 6 years starting in February of 2010 when we rescued her from the local shelter. Her and two siblings were found in a tied-up plastic bag on the side of the road before arriving at the shelter where my wife picked her out immediately at first sight. She became another member of the family for all those years before an accident took her away from us...but this is the way that I choose to remember her! Cute as any puppy ever was and full of amazing personality...
This photo was taken just a day or so after we brought her home at just 6 weeks old. She was still trying to figure things out but already knew she was home...

And here's Emmy's best friend, and adopted brother, Raji. Waiting for someone to. Throw. The. Stick!! :)
The essence of Raji & EmmyLou. He gets to the stick first and she steals the stick out of his mouth. Our best mornings begin like this. :)

One of the many animals looking for a home in Cape Town. I volunteered to take adoption shots for their website. Lots more to come.
Dogs are generally happy to be outside playing no matter what the weather. But it sure does make it easier to chase balls when there's no snow on the ground. This is Raji happily outrunning Emmy so he can keep his muddy tennis ball all to himself. :)
This little guy came to our house this week. He is a rescue straight from the County Animal Control. He was obviously someone's pet but he was found him along side a street with a fractured pelvis. We brought him home and named him Elwood. My DH is madly in love and spoiling him crazy!
Tom Tom is like me. He ventured out because it isn't raining or snowing today, but like me, he discovered it's none too warm either.
Tom Tom is an 11 year old rescue pup. They say he's a Chihuahua / French Bulldog cross.
He's an apprehensive little guy but friendly enough when put at ease by a little love and attention.
Many of you have asked how Lucy is doing. While she still can't walk completely on her own again, yet, she's otherwise happy and healthy. And she still LOVES being out in the snow. She needs a little help with her hind legs but her front legs are strong and ready to roam.
We're waist deep in snow from these last few storms so she can really only get around once the sidewalks and streets are cleared up a little bit. Otherwise it's way over her head. (And the gardens are totally buried...) But once the biggest drifts are cleared, it's hard to keep up with her! :)
Gypsy, our girl whom we rescued from the blistering sun, turned out to be one of the sweetest dogs we've ever had...she managed to eek out 13 great years and in the end, she could no longer stand up to go and relieve herself...she was the poster girl for the image of "Man's Best Friend"...
