BSCG provided comments (some of which have been included) for a report in the Highland & Islands edition of the Press & Journal of 13 June 2014. Concerns raised by the ACM "village" (1,500 houses stretches the definition of a village) are numerous. Mary Scanlon a Highland MSP has asked a question about abstraction of water from the River Spey & journalist George Monbiot has recently been critical of sacrificing land in national parks for second homes and holiday homes. Meanwhile environmental reports have been found wanting. It has been suggested that a breeding bird survey undertaken for builders who have now pulled out of the new town project may have even incorrectly identifed greylag geese (present in the area) with canada geese ( a goose found commonly in other parts but not established in Badenoch & Strathspey).
Objections can be sent to CNPA planners before 24 June. The planning reference is 014/0169/MSC . The promoting of a new town within a National Scenic Area, near to sensitive European Conservation sites, taking in also woodland on the Ancient Woodland Inventory and with implications for Annex 1 and European Protected Species, is something BSCG has long considered unacceptable. The precedent if approval of this masterplan is given would be damaging and could help undermine conservation of natural heritage in other top tier protected sites.
Anyone who is concerned can (up until 24 June 2014) send objections to CNPA planners. The details of the application are available on the eplanning section of the website of the Cairngorms National Park Authority using the CNPA planning reference number: 014/0169/MSC
August 7th and the stone wall has been completed apart from some maintenance pointing. The wood pile has been relocated along with all the pieces of sand stone left over. The garden area has now all been sown with grass seed with good growth on that which was sown 2 weeks ago. The old iron railings that Dave has carefully extended are fitted & have been painted. The very heavy 550kg concrete ring & cap have been installed over the rain water tank.
